Investigation of the Knocking Phenomenon in SI Engines (가솔린 엔진에서의 노킹 현상 해석)

  • Knock in SI engines causes physical damage to the piston and combustion chamber and lowers the thermal efficiency. The increase in compression ratio which can improve the thermal efficiency and engine performance has been limited by engine knock. So the need of making clear the knocking phenomenon has increased. This paper reviews the methods of knock detection, characterization and prediction of knock with the reduced chemical kinetic modeling.

  • The objective of tissue characterization is to provide quantitative information about the physical state of tissue interrogated by an ultrasound beam. In the computer simulation, it was found that the echoes were composed of the interferences of the ultrasonic waves reflected from both sides of the thin object, and could be separated by the spectral correlation method. Also, the phantom study demonstrates that thickness of the thin acryl layer beyond the resolution of common ultrasonic imaging systems can be measured- using this method.

  • Fly ash is glassy dust collected from coal fired power plant. Recently, much research for fly ash conducted in Korea and fly ash is a valuable material especially when it used in high strength, high flowable, high durability concrete. But it varies with coal source, coal grinding and boiler conditions. Therefore, it is important that quality control of fly ash itself to get high quality concrete. In this study, over 20 samples of Poryong and Samchonpo fly ashs are tested and analyzed. The physical, chemical properties of fly ash and their relationships are investigated and it can be applied to quality control of concrete.

  • A new EMI estimation technique concerned with a PDP system is presented. A physical circuit model is developed which can fairly well describe the AC-PDP system. Then EMIs are determined by exploiting Hertzian dipole antenna model. The simulation results are experimentally verified with the test panel. The AC PDP system was measured in the frequency range of 30MHz ~ 300MHz in a semi-anechoic chamber, according to CISPR 13 code. Thereby, it is shown that the proposed technique can be usefully employed for EMI reduction.

  • A comprehensive coverage of corrosion in batteries is rendered difficult by the wide choice of materials, environments and physical features as obtained in practical settings. Understanding of the complex processes that occur in these electrochemical systems gets clearer as new theoretical approaches backed by sophisticated analytical and characterization techniques continue to provide valuable insights which aid in controlling/mitigating wasteful corrosion reactions which affect battery shelf-life, cycle life, rate capability and capacity. In the light of the above, I limit myself to a discussion on corrosion aspects in representative system such as conventional Leclanche, lead-acid battery and magnesium batteries, and advanced lithium systems.
