  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to develop medical services for the elderly and qualitatively enhance physical therapy for them by analyzing korean students' knowledge of the elderly. METHODS: A total of 1027 male/female undergraduate students majoring in physical therapy were selected to examine the knowledge of the elderly. The knowledge of physical, psychological, and social aspects were investigated and measured by FAQ I of palmore (1988) and a scale developed by Yunjin et al. (1982). T-test, One-way-ANOVA and Scheff test were used. RESULTS: The percentage of the students who correctly answered the questions on the elderly was 53.6%. In particular, the higher error rates were seen in the social (56.9%) and psychological (57.6%) aspects compared in the physical (33.7%) aspects. Those who answered the questions correctly were over 30s (63.69%, p=0.000), seniors (57%, p=0.000)and grown in cities (53.91%, p=0.001). In addition, students who took lessons on the elderly (57.71%, p=0.032)and had experiences in voluntary services (54.09%, p=0.023) were significantly higher in answering the questions correctly. CONCLUSION: When students learned about the elderly, social and psychological aspects should be reinforced. The knowledge levels of the elderly can be elevated though voluntary services. It is thought that a follow-up study would be continuously neede to improve physical therapists' knowledge on the elderly and quality of available services.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify and describe a process of sexual adjustment of individuals with spinal cord injury: and to describe and explore positive and negative influences on the adjustment process. This qualitative study was conducted with 10 Korean individuals with spinal cord injury who had been physically disabled for more than one year. Data were collected and analysed at a same time using grounded theory method. Major categories of this study showed a process how the individuals with spinal cord injury adjust to their individual life as sexual beings. The process included and individual responses to the behavioral efforts including and . Initially physical aspects of sexuality seemed to be affected by spinal cord injuries. The changed physical aspects then influenced other aspects of their sexual life. Life satisfaction of each individual as a sexual being revealed as very subjective. It could be defined according to how the individual approved their sexual life no matter what and how much behavioral effort the person had done. In this study 3 types of sexual adjustment aspects were explored: 'Active adjustment' 'Passive adjustment' 'Maladjustment'. There were negative and positive factors influencing the adjustment process of individuals with spinal cord injury. Those factors might come from themselves, from families, or from social situations. Findings of this study suggested that sexual life of individuals with spinal cord injury should not be understood as a physical or behavioral matter. It was a combination of physical, psychological and social aspects of life. Therefore, appropriate rehabilitation programs for the sexual adjustment of individuals with spinal cord injury need to concern heterogeneous life values of them and obtain individualized services for each individual at a different stage of the sexual adjustment process.

  • In this paper, we present a survey of security and privacy preserving issues in M2M communications in Cyber-Physical Systems. First, we discuss the security challenges in M2M communications in wireless networks of Cyber-Physical Systems and outline the constraints, attack issues, and a set of challenges that need to be addressed for building secure Cyber-Physical Systems. Then, a secure architecture suitable for Cyber-Physical Systems is proposed to cope with these security issues. Eventually, the corresponding countermeasures to the security issues are discussed from four aspects: access control, intrusion detection, authentication and privacy preserving, respectively. Along the way we highlight the advantages and disadvantages of various existing security schemes and further compare and evaluate these schemes from each of these four aspects. We also point out the open research issues in each subarea and conclude with possible future research directions on security in Cyber-Physical Systems. It is believed that once these challenges are surmounted, applications with intrinsic security considerations will become immediately realizable.

  • The ceramic high transition temperature superconducting materials present many interesting characteristics that will be analysed from two points of view: physical behavior, and chemical aspects. From the first point of view, these materials display an enormous variety of different physical properties. At low doping levels the normal state shows antiferromagnetism and insulating behavior. At intermediate doping levels, an anomalous metallic state appears and, the optimum Tc in the superconducting state is generated. With increasing doping a normal metallic state develops and superconductivity starts to disappear. Many of the physical phenomena that describe the overall behavior when doping levels are changed will be discussed. From the poing of view of the chemical aspects. we well discuss some of the problems involved in the methods of preparation with particular emphasis on defects, crystal structures, critical currrents, and applications in technology.

  • Purpose : Sexual harassment cases involving health and medical workers, including physical therapists, nurses and psychotherapists, are on the rise. Despite the increased incidence of sexual harassment, prior studies show that physical therapists, nursing assistants and caregivers are not doing well cope with sexual harassment. Therefore this study examines the factors associated with sexual harassment damage experience among physical therapists, as well as the relationship between sexual harassment damage experience and job-related aspects. It is intended to prepare basic data for programs and research that can mediate these issues. Methods : We conducted a self-reported questionnaire survey of 200 physical therapists working at medical institutions in the Seoul metropolitan area. The survey items included sexual harassment experience and job-related aspects such as satisfaction, stress, burnout, and engagement. A correlation analysis was conducted to clarify the relationship between sexual harassment experience and job-related factors, and multiple regression analysis was conducted to verify the correlations of sexual harassment experience on physical therapists' job. Results : There was a weak correlation between sexual harassment experience, job satisfaction, and job engagement, and a moderate correlation between sexual harassment experience, job stress, and job burnout. The impact of sexual harassment experience on job had a significant correlation on job satisfaction, job stress and burnout. Conclusions : Sexual harassment damage experience among physical therapists had a significant impact on many job aspects. Thus, there is a need for countermeasures and education to prevent sexual harassment, or at least effectively cope with the consequences. It is proposed to expand to other local or national units as follow-up studies, to study other factors affecting sexual harassment damage experience, and to develop and verify programs to cope with or prevent sexual harassment damage experience.
