Comparison on the Physical & Chemical Characteristics in Surface of Polished Wafer and Epi-Layer Wafer (Polished Wafer와 Epi-Layer Wafer의 표면 처리에 따른 표면 화학적/물리적 특성)

  • Physical and chemical changes in a polished wafer and in $2.5{\mu}m$ & $4{\mu}m$ epitaxially grown Si layer wafers (Epilayer wafer) after surface treatment were investigated. We characterized the influence of surface treatment on wafer properties such as surface roughness and the chemical composition and bonds. After each surface treatment, the physical change of the wafer surface was evaluated by atomic force microscopy to confirm the surface morphology and roughness. In addition, chemical changes in the wafer surface were studied by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy measurement. Changes in the chemical composition were confirmed before and after the surface treatment. By combined analysis of the physical and chemical changes, we found that diluted hydrofluoric acid treatment is more effective than buffered oxide etching for $SiO_2$ removal in both polished and Epi-Layer wafers; however, the etch rate and the surface roughness in the given treatment are different among the polished $2.5{\mu}m$ and $4{\mu}m$ Epi-layer wafers in spite of the identical bulk structural properties of these wafers. This study therefore suggests that independent surface treatment optimization is required for each wafer type, $2.5{\mu}m$ and $4{\mu}m$, due to the meaningful differences in the initial surface chemical and physical properties.

The Change of Physical and Chemical Properties of Processed Leaf Tobacco During Long-term Storage (장기저장시 가공 원료잎담배의 이화학성 변화)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the changes of physical and chemical properties and the usability of long-term stored leaf tobacco. The physical chemical properties of the flue-cured and burley leaves produced in 1993, processed in 1994 were analysed from Nov. 1996 to Nov. 1999. The pH and moisture content in leaf decreased slowly until 4 years’storage after processing, while those of leaf changed little thereafter. However, total sugar content continuously decreased until 5 years after processing. The filling capacity increased and shatter resistance index decreased in long-term stored leaf. The sensory test, cilia stasis and the chemical components of cigarette smoke had no significant differences between short and long-term stored leaves. When the processed leaves were stored till 5 years after processing, there were no deteriorative effects on quality and usability of leaf tobacco. Therefore, it is considered that the processed leaf may be stored for 5 years or more under the inevitable situation.

Physicochemical Analysis according to Temperature Changes of Iopamidol and Ioversol Formulation Contrast Agents (Iopamidol과 Ioversol 제제 조영제의 온도변화에 따른 물리화학적 분석)

  • In this study, the P contrast agent of Iopamidol, which is a nonionic iodide contrast agent most commonly used as a vascular contrast agent in medical institutions, and the O contrast agent of Ioversol, were studied. The physicochemical changes according to the temperature change were compared and analyzed using the Bruker Avance 500MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer owned by the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI). There was no physical or chemical change in the O contrast medium of Ioversol formulation in temperature change. However, in the P contrast agent of Iopamidol, a doublet peak began to appear in the 1.1 ppm region of the sample at 60℃, and the doublet peak was clearly observed in the sample at 80℃. As a result of this study, 1H-NMR analysis revealed that the P contrast agent of the Iopamidol formulation was dissociated from chemical bonds as it rose to a high temperature of 60℃ or higher, resulting in the formation of foreign substances. It was evaluated that the O contrast agent of Ioversol formulation had physico-chemical stability than the P contrast agent of Iopamidol formulation. As shown in this study, it is necessary to analyze the physical and chemical changes of contrast agents according to various environmental factors.

The Estimation of the Extent of Weathering using Fractal Dimension through a Comparison with Chemical Characteristic (화학적 특성과의 비교 분석을 통한 프랙탈 차원을 이용한 풍화도 추정)

  • The processes of chemical and physical weathering occur simultaneously. The objective of this study was to estimate the degree weathered using fractal dimension through comparison with chemical characteristic of soil samples from Pohang (PH) and Kimpo (KP). Comparing chemical characteristics with fractal dimension, $SiO_2$, $Na_2O$, $K_2O$ content decreased and loss of ignition increased as fractal dimension increased. And fractal dimension showed high correlation with CWI while ATI, STI CIW, PI, CIA and RR demonstrated different degrees of correlation with fractal dimension. The tendency of the changes in oxide content and chemical weathering index with increasing fractal dimension appeared to be similar with the chemical changes due to weathering. Therefore, fractal dimension could be a good indicator representing the extent of weathering and chemical changes.

  • In recent years, the municipal wastes recognized resources. This study was performed to survey the changes of main components of the pretreated(chemical, physical) lignocellulosic biomass. The result can be summerized as follows; In pulp fiber composition, newsprint and corrugating container were mainly consist of softwood fiber(tracheid). But computer print out and magazine had a large amount of hardwood fiber(wood fiber). And, carbohydrate content in the various lignocellulosic biomass increases as the following orders : Magazine < Newsprint < Corrugating container < Computer print out. In the chemical pretreatments for the delignification, sodium hypochlorite pretreatment was more effective than sodium hydroxide. By washing, ash content of lignocellulosic biomass was decreased. Physical pretreatments were less effective than chemical pretreatment for the delignification. On the other hand, in physical pretreatments, ash content of lignocellulosic biomass was the same tendency as in the chemical pretreatments.

Alteration in Response to Chemicals Induced by Physical Exercise (육체운동에 의해 유발되는 화학물질에 대한 반응성의 변화)

  • Acute or repeated physical exercise affects a large number of physiological parameters including hemodynamics, respiration, pH, temperature, gastrointestinal function and biotransformation, which determine the pharmacokinetics of drugs and chemicals. The rate and the amount of a chemical reaching the active site are altered by physical exercise, which results in significant changes in pharmacolosical/toxicological activity of the chemical. This aspect of physical exercise has vast implication in therapeutics and in safety evaluation, particularly for chemicals that have a low margin of safety. However there appears to be a wide inter- and intraindividual variation in the effects of physical exercise depend-ing on the duration, intensity and type of exercise, and also on the properties of each chemical. It is suggested that more studies need to be done to determine which factor(s) plays a major role in the disposition of chemicals in human/animals performing physical exercise. Certain chemicals induce severe toxicity due to metabolic conversion to reactive intermediate metabolites. it is suggested that repeated exercise may enhance the free radical scavenging system by increasing the activity of antioxidant enzymes. This area of research remain to be explored to elucidate the interaction of exercise and chemical on the antioxidant system.

A Study of the Changes in Physical and Chemical Properities of Oil Used in Gasoline and LPG Engine (가솔린 LPG 엔진오일의 사용에 따른 물리적, 화학적 성질의 변화에 관한 연구)

  • This study is concerned with the change of physical and chemical properties of the used oil in gasoline and LPG engine. The used oils of engine were sampled from dynamometer and cars. The field tests of car were done in city and on highway. The properties of oil were TAN, TBN, visocity, oxidation, ZDTP depletion factor and etc. Also the relation between the chemical change and antiwear property was studied. From the study, it was shown that the decrease of antiwear property of used oil was depended on the changes of ZDTP depletion factor as well as TAN (total acid number). Also, it was found that the oil used by LPG car was deteriorated within the shortest distance among the other gasoline cars. The antiwear property of oil decreased as the running distance increased. The gasoline engine oil drove mainly on highway was the least deteriorate of properities for the same running distance.

  • The development of detection techniques is needed, in order for regulating authorities to determine whether or not a particular food sample has been irradiated, and label it accordingly so that a consumer's free choice can be exercised. The chemical and physical changes brought about in foods by practical doses of irradiation are very small, and therefore very sensitive methods are required. A number of promising approaches have been developed and evaluated. These include chemical, physical and biological methods ranging from the very simple to highly sophisticated techniques.

Monitoring physical and chemical properties of soil in Chungcheongbuk-do

  • The soil physical and chemical properties are the main factors that influence plant productivity and soil fertility. Since 1999, South Korea has been conducting a survey on changes in the agricultural environment survey every four years. The purpose of the present study is to monitor the physical and chemical properties of soil in Chungcheongbuk-do. Soil samples were collected from the exact sites of the aforementioned environment survey, and land use and cultivated crops were also investigated. From a Pearson correlation analysis, it was found that the total carbon contents were most negatively affected by the soil depth. The bulk density of soil increased up to a depth of 40 cm but decreased to a depth of 60 cm. The porosity and moisture of soil generally decreased, but the porosity increased at a depth of 50 - 60 cm. Chemical properties of soil gradually decreased with an increase of the soil depth from 0 to 70 cm, but little change was observed in soil pH with soil depth. In addition, the organic matter contents of the soil at a depth of 30 cm or more were below the optimal range. The soil of Chungcheongbuk-do thus requires organic matter application as a whole, and correction of items that are partially out of the optimal range is necessary.

Physical Characteristics of Mushroom(Agaricus bisporus) as Influenced by Different Drying Methods (건조방법에 따른 양송이버섯의 물리적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This research was conducted to study the changes in physical characteristics of mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) as influenced by drying methods. Samples were dried using either hot air drying, vacuum drying, or freeze drying and changes in the color, browning index, hardness and rehydration rate were evaluated by response surface methodology. Hot air drying resulted in the fastest drying of sample as compared to other methods. The rate of drying was most affected by the environmental temperature rather than air velocity or vacuum pressure. The overall color difference increased as the temperature and air velocity increased. The overall color changes of the freeze dried samples were minimal as compared to those of fresh mushrooms. The hot air dried samples showed the greatest changes in the overall color, browning index as well as hardness. The freeze dried samples showed the best rehydration characteristic and maintained the best overall quality after drying.
