The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of physical education classes based on Flipped Learning on self-directed learning abilities and learning attitude towards these classes, for middle school students. The study selected 90 students as an experimental group (3 classes) and 97 students as a control group (3 classes), among 240 students of the first-year students attending a middle school located at Jeonju City of South Korea, applying convenience sampling, one of the non-probability sampling methods. For the experimental group, 36 sessions of physical education classes were held for 14 weeks, while the control group received teacher-centered classes. Comparing the results with the control group, the experimental group showed significant differences in terms of all sub factors of self-directed learning abilities, namely; desire for learning, learning objective establishment, basic self-management abilities, selection of learning strategy and self-reflection. Moreover, the experimental group manifested significant differences in terms of all sub factors of attitude towards the physical education subjects, namely; positive emotions, negative emotions, health & physical strength, interpersonal relations, physical activities & movements, and active participation & positive performance. From the findings, it can be considered that physical education classes based on Flipped Learning contributed to improving self-directed learning abilities and attitude towards physical education classes. This result can serve as a significant basic material for designing and performing classes in raising the understanding of Flipped Learning and effectively applying Flipped Learning in physical education classes.
This study examined the effects of physical activities using Korean dance upon the motor abilities of young children. The subjects of this study were divided into 2 groups. The first group was an experimental group (boy=12, girl=13) who participated in the Korean dance class and the other group was a comparative group (boy=11, girl=14). Experiments were performed during 18 sessions for 9 weeks. The study findings are as follows. First, physical activities using Korean dance had positive effects upon the development of basic motor abilities in young children. In terms of these basic motor abilities, movement motor ability and whole muscle operation motor ability showed significant differences between the pre-test and post-test stage in the experiment group and between the experimental and comparative groups in the post-test stage. On the other hand, in terms of non-movement motor abilities, there was a significant difference between the pre- and post-test stages for the experimental group, but no significant difference in the post-test stage for the experimental or comparative groups. Second, physical activities using Korean dance had positive effects upon the development of perceptive motor abilities in young children. In other words, in the sub-variables of perceptive motor abilities, there were significant differences between the pre- and post-test stages of the experimental group which experienced physical activities using Korean dance. In conclusion, the study findings showed that physical activities using Korean dance had positive effects upon the increase of both basic motor abilities and perceptive motor abilities in young children. Additionally, the experimental group exhibited more positive effects in the various areas of motor abilities than the comparative group.
Objective: This study was performed to examine differences in the association between straight and curved walking abilities of inpatients in the subacute phase and walking independence level. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Subjects were divided into an independent group and a supervised group (n=10 each) by walking independence level within the ward decided by physical therapists. Inclusion criteria comprised the ability to ambulate independently within the ward, regardless of the use of walking aids. Straight walking abilities (walking velocity, stride length, and cadence) were evaluated using the 5-meter walk test. Curved walking abilities were evaluated using the Figure-of-8 Walk Test (F8W) and the 3-meter zigzag walk test (3ZW). Differences in associations between straight and curved walking abilities of inpatients were examined by calculating correlation coefficients between straight and curved walking abilities. Results: Age, walking velocity, stride length, F8W and 3ZW varied markedly between independent and supervised groups. In the independent group, F8W and 3ZW correlated significantly with walking velocity and cadence (p<0.05). In the supervised group, F8W correlated significantly with walking velocity and stride length (p<0.05), but 3ZW did not correlate significantly with straight walking abilities. Conclusions: The association between straight and curved walking abilities varied between inpatients who could ambulate independently and inpatients requiring supervision for ambulating. These differences may depend on skill on straight and curved walking abilities. There is a possibility that curved walking exercise is necessary for supervised group.

Purpose : Along with the rapid development of digital technology, the application of digital healthcare in the medical field is also increasing. According to many experts, increasing the amount of exercise and physical activity is a helpful way to prevent and manage physical problems in modern society. However, a lack of exercise, which is of the lifestyle of modern people, leads to the development of various diseases. This study aimed to examine the effects of digital exercise intervention using artificial intelligence (AI) on the physical abilities of adults whether digital exercise intervention can be a reliable and effective therapeutic option for musculoskeletal disorders in real-world clinical settings. Methods : In this study, exercise was conducted using a digital application to investigate the effects of an AI-based digital exercise intervention on the physical abilities of adults. A total of 13 adults were evaluated, and their physical abilities before and after the exercise intervention were compared. Hand-grip strength, functional leg muscle strength, dynamic balance, and quadriceps muscle strength were assessed. Exercise was performed using a digital application and in a non-face-to-face manner. AI identified the exercise status of each participant and adjusted the exercise difficulty level accordingly. The exercised daily for 4 weeks. Results : A total of 12 participants were analyzed for the final results. Significant improvements were observed in hand-grip strength, functional leg muscle strength (evaluated using the stand-up test), dynamic balance, and straight-gait ability (p<.05), indicating an increase in the overall muscular strength and physical function of the participants. Conclusions : Digital exercise intervention using AI is effective in improving physical abilities related to musculoskeletal function. It can be useful in clinical practice as an effective treatment option for patients with musculoskeletal disorders or muscle weakness.
Purpose: This study examines the correlations between neck pain, neck range of motion, static and dynamic balance abilities, and walking abilities in patients with chronic stroke. Methods: A total of 29 participants were selected from patients with chronic stroke experiencing moderate to severe neck pain. Their neck pain, neck range of motion, static and dynamic balance abilities, and walking abilities were assessed and measured. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to analyze the measurements and determine the correlations between neck pain, neck range of motion, static and dynamic balance abilities, and walking abilities. Results: Neck pain significantly correlated with static and dynamic balance and walking abilities. Regarding neck ROM, neither neck flexion nor extension showed significant correlations with static balance and walking abilities. However, except for left-lateral flexion, neck lateral flexion showed significant correlations with static and dynamic balance and walking abilities. Left-lateral flexion did not show a significant correlation with dynamic balance ability. Except for left rotation, neck rotation showed significant correlations with static and dynamic balance and walking abilities. Left rotation did not show a significant correlation with dynamic balance ability. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrate that there are correlations between neck pain, neck range of motion, balance abilities, and walking ability.
For the purpose of disclosing the effects of exercise program on physical fitness for health promotion, living activities, and performance abilities of the elderly in the institution, questionnaire survey and physical examination were performed on the subject, aged 65 years or older. The subjects consisted of experimental (33 persons) and control (35 persons) groups, matched with gender and age. The experimental group was put on the exercise program; working their upper and lower limbs for 12 weeks using dumbbell and lead-packed weight. The results were as follows: 1)The mean values of experimental group were significantly higher than those of control group in all variables of physical fitness, in all variables except for living activities, and in all variables of performance abilities after exercise program. 2)The mean values were significantly improved in all variables of experimental group after exercise program, but the mean values were decreased or maintained in most of variables of control group after exercise.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the physical activities of individuals post-stroke and their HRQL, as well as to determine whether their functional abilities contribute to their amounts of physical activity. METHODS: The study's subjects included 90 individuals post-stroke. Their amounts of physical activity were measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and their HRQL was measured using the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-form Health Survey (SF-36). In addition, the functional abilities of the subjects were measured. For the measures of physical activities and the HRQL, Pearson's correlation coefficients were used to identify the strengths of the associations between the measures. A hierarchical linear regression model was used to determine whether physical activities had independent impacts on the HRQL. RESULTS: This study found that the physical activities performed by the subjects affected the SF-36 physical component score (PCS) (12%). However, the physical activities and the SF-36 mental component score (MCS) showed no statistically significant relationship, whereas functional abilities and physical activities had a statistically significant relationship (r = .57~.86, p<.001). CONCLUSION: The present study identified a correlation between physical activity and the PCS. Therefore, individuals post-stroke should be encouraged to carry out more physical activities, including more frequent walking activities.

The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of Kinesio taping in each area of the ankle versus the knee to improve balance abilities and proprioception sense. The healthy twenty eight students were divided into two groups, Group A and B. Ankle taping was applied to Group A, and knee taping was applied to Group B. In the ankle taping group, significant increase of dynamic balance abilities was appeared in the forward, left ward and right ward (p<.05). In the knee taping group, there was significant increase of dynamic balance abilities in the forward and left ward (p<.05). There was no significant increase of static balance abilities in both groups. In both groups of ankle and knee taping, there was significant increase of proprioception sense. These findings suggest that ankle and knee taping was helpful for improving dynamic balance abilities and proprioception sense.
The purpose of this study was to develop a checklist of risk factors for quantitative assessment of musculoskeletal complaints in shipbuilding workers. A key point was to develop comprehensive a checklist including the worker's physical ability, as ergonomic and workload factors. ln the first, through correlation analysis between musculoskeletal complaints and physical abilities in shipbuilding workers, risk factors related to physical abilities were selected. In the second, after the development of a checklist was composed of physical, ergonomic and workload factors, factor analysis was used to test the validity of the developed checklist. Each factors selected finally showed that physical factors were hand grip strength, spinal curvature, and flexibility (sit to reach), ergonomic factors were posture, total exposed time, duration, and force of working, and workload factors were physical and psychological workload perceived by worker. The results showed that musculoskeletal complaints was associated with physical abilities (p<.05). The developed checklist had a reliability of .761 (Cronbach=.761) and a validity and explanation of 54.9%. The criterion of management was classified in 4 stages by relative weights of each factor. It is suggested that active intervention is needed to reduce musculoskeletal complaints in workers with more than a 14.31 score.
This study investigates the impact of Calculator-Based Ranger (CBR) activities in the performance of middle school students' graphing abilities of physical phenomena. Two issues about CBR activities on graphing abilities were addressed in this study; (1) the effect of CBR activities on graphing abilities, and (2) the influence of instructional styles on students' graphing abilities. Following the use of CBR activities, students' graphing abilities were significantly more developed in three components-interpreting, modeling, and transforming. Significant differences were found in students' achievement depending on instructional styles related to differentiation, which is closely connected to transforming distance-time graphs to velocity-time graphs. The findings of this study indicate that CBR activities may enhance students in constructing appropriate webs of related concepts and ability to qualitatively interpret graphs. Using collaborative CBR activities to introduce and explore graphing of physical phenomena is, therefore, recommended for inclusion in the secondary mathematics curriculum.
