In the hierarchical framework, galaxies grow through mergers and accretion. Those mechanisms leave faint features, such as stellar streams, shells and smooth stellar halos in the outskirts of galaxies. In order to search for those features in the nearby galaxies, we are conducting a KMTNet Nearby Galaxy Survey using the Korea Microlensing Telescope Network. We present a deep and wide-field imaging of NGC 5236, a barred spiral galaxy. In one-dimensional surface brightness profiles, we reach 28, 29 mag/arcsec2 in the R- and B-band, respectively. We find that the outer disk of NGC 5236 can be well described with a single exponential profile up to 17 kpc (~3.8 Reff) indicating that the excess light due to the stellar halo is not clearly detected. B-R color gradually increases towards the outskirts of the galaxy. It may reveal that stellar properties in the outskirts are marginally distinctive from those in the central part.
We present ultraviolet (UV) photometric properties of dwarf galaxies in Fornax cluster and Ursa Major group in comparison with Virgo cluster using GALEX data. We construct UV color-magnitude relations (CMRs) of dwarf galaxies matching with available optical photometry and SDSS data. Majority of dwarf galaxies in Fornax cluster show sequence in UV CMRs consistent with that of dwarf elliptical (dEs) in Virgo cluster indicating similar age and metallicity properties of dEs in two clusters. The dS0 sequence in Fornax cluster is not distinct as much as that in Virgo cluster. Dwarf galaxies in outer region of the Fornax cluster show more bluer UV colors with a wide scatter in CMRs, which indicates recent star formation activity. We show that the UV colors of dwarf galaxies are related with the distribution and strength of the X-ray emission in the cluster. In contrast to the Fornax cluster, most dwarf galaxies in Ursa Major group are located in the blue cloud showing recent or on-going star formation, and few galaxies show characteristics of dEs. We discuss relationship between UV properties of dwarf galaxies and different environment of cluster.
We observed the radio sources found from the First Look Survey (FLS) field at the 1.4 GHz radio continuum emission with the Very Large Array (VLA) using the A configuration. We identify point sources and multi component sources at ${\geq}4{\sigma}$ level. We also present the submillimeter properties of the selected radio sources in the FLS field from the Herschel/SPIRE 250/350/500/${\mu}m$ and AzTEC 1.1mm surveys. The counterparts of the radio sources at submillimeter for these called 'submillimeter galaxies (SMGs)' are detected at infrared wavelength with the Spitzer MIPS 24 & 70 ${\mu}m$ sources. Based on the MMT/HECTOSPEC red-shift survey, IRS spectroscopy, and SDSS photometric red-shift survey, the radio sources are likely to be the extragalactic sources. Here, we use the star formation rate (SFR) derived from the MIPS 24 and 70 ${\mu}m$ luminosity to compare the measured SFR from the VLA 1.4 GHz luminosity. These results show that a tight correlation between the SFR from the radio luminosity and the MIPS $24{\mu}m$ rather than that from the MIPS $70{\mu}m$ luminosity. Radio and IR correlation is also used to indicate the radio and IR properties of star-formation in the galaxies and active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Using the counterpart sources selected at IR and radio wavelengths, we employ the IR/radio flux ratios to determine the properties and population of the selected galaxies.

We selected 47 DOGs at z ~ 1.5 using optical R (or r'), AKARI $18{\mu}m$, and $24{\mu}m$ color in the AKARI North Ecliptic Pole (NEP) Deep survey field. Using the colors among 3, 4, 7, and 9µm, we classified them into 3 groups; bump DOGs (23 sources), power-law DOGs (16 sources), and unknown DOGs (8 sources). We built spectral energy distributions (SEDs) with optical to far-infrared photometric data and investigated their properties using SED fitting method. We found that AGN activity such as a AGN contribution to the infrared luminosity and a Chandra detection rate for bump and power-law DOGs are significantly different, while stellar component properties like a stellar mass and a star-formation rate are similar to each other. A specific star-formation rate range of power-law DOGs is slightly higher than that of bump DOGs with wide overlap. Herschel/PACS detection rates are almost the same between bump and power-law DOGs. On the other hand SPIRE detection rates show large differences between bump and power-law DOGs. These results might be explained by differences in dust temperatures. Both groups of DOGs host hot and/or warm dust (~ 50 Kelvin), and many bump DOGs contain cooler dust (${\leq}30$ Kelvin).
We present ultraviolet (UV) photometric properties of galaxies in two clusters, the Fornax and Virgo, with different dynamical conditions. We construct UV color-magnitude relations (CMRs) of galaxies in the Fornax and Virgo clusters using GALEX UV data matching with optical B band data. Elliptical and lenticular galaxies locate on red sequence in UV CMRs and show UV upturn phenomenon in both clusters. While dwarf lenticular galaxies (dS0s) in the Fornax also follow the extension of red sequence of giant early type galaxies, they are redder than dS0s in the Virgo at a given magnitude. We also investigated the effect of neighbor galaxies and cluster environment to the UV properties. In the space of projected clustercentric radius and projected nearest neighbor galaxy distance, we found that red (NUV-B>3) galaxy fraction of the Fornax depends entirely on clustercentric radius. However, in the case of Virgo, galaxy colors are also affected by interactions between galaxies outside the cluster virial radius. We suggest that UV properties of early-type galaxies in the Fornax cluster is likely consistent with its dynamically evolved system compared to the Virgo cluster.

Galaxy clusters have provided important information to understand the evolution of the universe, since the number density and mass of clusters are tightly related to the cosmological parameters. In addition, galaxy clusters are an excellent laboratory to investigate the galaxy evolution in dense environments. However, finding galaxy clusters at high redshift ($z{\geq}1$) still remains as a main subject in astronomy due to their rareness and difficulty in identifying such objects from optical imaging data alone. Here, we report a spectroscopic follow-up observation of distant galaxy cluster candidates identified by a deep optical-NIR dataset of Infrared Medium-deep Survey. Through the galaxy spectra taken with the IMACS instrument on the Magellan telescope, we confirm at least 3 massive clusters at z~0.92. Interestingly, the maximum spatial separation between these clusters is ~8Mpc, which implies that this system is a new supercluster in the distant universe. We also discuss properties of galaxies in these clusters based on multi-wavelength photometric data.

The North Ecliptic Pole (NEP) Wide survey covered about 5.4 $deg^2$, a nearly circular area centered on the NEP, using nine passbands of InfraRed Camera (IRC). We present the photometric properties of the data sets, and the nature of the sources detected in this field. The number of detected sources varied according to the filter band: with about 109,000 sources in the NIR, about 20,000 sources in the MIR-S, and about 16,000 sources seen in the MIR-L channel. The $5{\sigma}$ detection limits are about 21 mag in the NIR and 19.5 - 18.5 mag in the MIR bands in terms of the AB magnitude. 50% completeness levels are about 19.8 mag at $3{\mu}m$, 18.6 mag at $9{\mu}m$, and 18 mag at $18{\mu}m$ band (in AB magnitude), respectively. In order to validate the detected sources, all of them are confirmed by matching tests with those in other bands. The 'star-like' sources, defined by the high stellarity and magnitude cut from the optical ancillary data, appear statistically to have a high probability of being stars. The nature of the various types of extragalactic sources in this field are discussed using the color-color diagrams of the NIR and MIR bands with the redshift tracks of galaxies providing useful guidelines.

We present our study of analyzing the photometric properties of the globular cluster (GC) system which resides in the extended halo of the central bright Coma cluster galaxy NGC 4874. The core of the Coma cluster of galaxies (Abell 1656) was observed with both the HST Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) in the F475W (g475) and F814W (I814) and Wide Field Camera 3 IR Channel (WFC3/IR) in the F160W (H160) filters. The data analysis procedure and GC candidate selection criteria are briefly described. We investigate the interesting "tilt" features in color-magnitude diagrams for this GC system and their link to the nonlinear color-metallicity relation for GCs. The NGC 4874's GC system exhibits a bimodal distribution in the optical g475-I814 color and much more than half the GCs fall in the red side at g475-I814 ~ 1.1. This bimodality is weakened in the optical-IR I814-H160 color; the quantitative analysis on the features of both color distributions using the Gaussian Mixture Modeling code proves the bimodalities are different. Both colors, thus, cannot linearly reflect the bimodality of an underlying metallicity, supporting the suggestion that observed bimodalities in extragalactic GC colors are the metallicity-to-color projection effect.
The Deep Lens Survey (DLS), a precursor to the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), is a 20 deg2 survey carried out with NOAO's Blanco and Mayalltelescopes. DLS is unique in its depth reaching down to ~27th mags in BVRz bands. This enables a broad redshift baseline and is optimal for investigating cosmological evolution of the large scale structure. Galaxy-galaxylensing is a powerful tool to estimate averaged matter distribution around lensgalaxies by measuring shape distortions of background galaxies. The signal from galaxy-galaxy lensing is sensitive not only to galaxy halo properties, but also to cosmological environment at large scales. In this study, we measure galaxy-galaxy lensing and galaxy clustering, which together put strong constraints on the cosmological parameters. We obtain significant galaxy-galaxy lensing signals out to ~20 Mpc while tightly controlling systematics. The B-mode signals are consistent with zero. Our lens-source flip test indicates that minimal systematic errors are present in DLS photometric redshifts. Shear calibration is performed using high-fidelity galaxy image simulations. We demonstrate that the overall shape of the galaxy-galaxy lensing signal is well described by the halo model comprised of central and non-central halo contributions. Finally, we present our preliminary constraints on the matter density and the normalization parameters.
We present a photometric and spectroscopic study of the globular clusters (GCs) in the giant elliptical galaxy NGC 4636 in the Virgo cluster. The photometry of the GCs is based on HST/WFPC2 images for the inner region and deep, wide field Washington $CT_1$ CCD images for the outer region. We investigated the color distribution, the radial number density profile, the spatial distribution, and the mean color of the bright blue GCs about the GCs in NGC 4636. We obtained spectra of the GC candidates in NGC 4636 using the Multi-Object Spectroscopy (MOS) mode of Faint Object Camera and Spectrograph (FOCAS) on the SUBARU 8.2m Telescope. We measured the velocities for 105 GCs in NGC 4636. Using the 238 GCs obtained from combining our results with data in the literature, we investigated the kinematics of the GC system of NGC 4636: the rotation, the velocity dispersion, the radial variation, and the orbit. We also investigated the distribution and the radial variation of the metallicities, ages, and alpha-elements of the GCs in NGC 4636 derived using the absorption lines. We compared the GC kinematics of NGC 4636 with those of other six gEs, finding that the kinematic properties of the GCs are diverse among gEs. We found several correlations between the kinematics of the GCs and the global parameters of their host galaxies. Finally we discuss the implication of the results for the formation models of the GC system in gEs, and suggest a mixture scenario for the origin of the GCs in gEs.
