  • Salicylic acid degrades at different rates under UV-A light on $TiO_2$, ZnO, CuO, $Fe_2O_3$, $Fe_3O_4$ and $ZrO_2$ nanocrystals and all the oxides exhibit sustainable photocatalysis. While ZnO-photocatalysis displays Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetics the others follow first order on [salicylic acid]. The degradation on all the oxides enhance with illumination intensity. Dissolved oxygen is essential for the photodegradation. ZnO is the most efficient photocatalyst to degrade salicylic acid. Besides serving as the effective photocatalyst to degrade salicylic acid it also acts as a bactericide and inactivates E.coli even in absence of direct light.

  • The VOCs have a direct influence on indoor air pollution, and stimulate respiratory organs and eyes in human body. Also, most of VOCs are a carcinogenic substances and causes to SBS (sickness building syndrome). Therefore, this study was progressed in photocatalysis of VOCs using UV/$TiO_2$ which was a benign process environmentally. The experiments were performed to know photodegradation characteristics as crystalline structure of $TiO_2$ which had anatase, rutile and P-25 (anatase : rutile = 70 : 30). The main purpose of this study was to identify photocatalytic characteristics as inlet concentration of reactants, $H_2O$, and residence time.

  • In the present study, $TiO_2$ imbedded copper matrix powders have been successfully prepared from the ($CuSO_4+TiO_2+Zn$) composite salt solution. The composite $Cu/TiO_2$ powders were formed by drying the solution at $200{\sim}~400^{\circ}C$ in the hydrogen atmosphere. Photocatalytic characteristics was evaluated by detecting TOC (total organic carbon) amount with TOC analyzer (model 5000A Shimadzu Co). Phase analysis of $Cu/TiO_2$ composite powders was carried out by XRD, DSC and powder size was measured with TEM. The mean particle size of composite powders was about 100 nm and a few zinc and copper oxide phases was included. The reduction ratio of TOC amount was 60% by the composite $Cu/TiO_2$ powders under the UV irradiation for 8 hours.

  • We investigated the relationship between the $TiO_2$ photocatalytic decomposition of bisphenol A in water and biological toxicity to zebrafish (Danio rerio) during $1\sim28$ weeks post development stage. The bisphenol A in water was completely degraded by the $TiO_2$ photocatalysis in 50 hours. After the photocatalysis, no toxic effects on the morphogenesis of the zebrafish were observed during the development, growth, and maturate stages. Catalase activity of control group was not different from $1\sim5$ week post fertilized group. However, toxic effect on the catalase activity of adult stage(28 weeks) decreased 50% than control group.

  • Feasibility test for radical reactions in organic light emitting diode(OLED) has been applied on OLED consisting of hole transport layer(HTL) and electron transport layer(ETL). Organic molecules such as 4,4',-Bis[N-(1-naphthyl)-N-phenylamino] biphenyl(NPD) and 4,4',4"-tris(3-methylphenylphenylamino)triphenylamine(m-MTDATA) are chosen for hole transport layer(HTL) and Bathocuproine(BCP) for electron transport layer(ETL) in this study. Informations on energy and shape of frontier orbitals and data on radical reactions of simple aromatics from semiconductor($TiO_2$) photocatalysis have provided basis for determining feasibility for radical reactions in OLED. The outcome of our feasibility test would be useful in designing optimum molecule for organic layer with a view to extending the lifetime of OLED.

  • Functional Concrete Added Titanium Dioxide(TIO2) for photocatalysis was about a result strength Reduction by recent studies. Therefore, The purpose of the study is to review the possibility of TIO2 for using concrete admixture. As a result, Nano TIO2 for concrete admixture helps increased strength of concrete and here are some of the details. The compressive strength and flexural strength of cement mortar added same amount of Nano SF and TIO2 for admixture were development of strength a certain level each other. when Nano admixture use 10%, SF and TIO2 showed development of strength 60% and 40% each other gradually. If I use over 10% Both SF and TIO2, they showed irregular strength variations.

  • Ag deposited N-$TiO_2$ composite nanoparticles were prepared via $NH_3$ plasma treatment. X-ray diffraction, UV-vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to characterize the prepared $TiO_2$ samples. The plasma treatment did not change the phase composition and particle sizes of $TiO_2$ samples, but extended its absorption edges to the visible light region. The photocatalytic activities were tested in the degradation of an aqueous solution of a reactive dyestuff, methylene blue, under visible light. The photocatalytic activities of Ag deposited N-$TiO_2$ composite nanoparticles were much higher than Ag-$TiO_2$, N-$TiO_2$, and P25. A possible mechanism for the photocatalysis was proposed.

  • Titanium was oxidized with oxygen plasma and calcinated with rapid thermal annealing for degradation of humic acid dissolved in water. Titania photocatalytic plate was produced by titanium surface oxidized with oxygen plasma by Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition(PECVD). RF-power and deposition condition is controlled under 100 W, 150 W, 300 W and 500 W. Treatment time was controlled by 5 min and 10 min. The film properties were evaluated by the X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). From the experimental results, we found the optimal condition of titania film which exhibited good performance. Moreover photocatalytic capacity was about twice better than thermal spray titania film, and also as good as titania powder.

  • Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a wide bandgap semiconductor possessing photochemical stability and thus widely used for photocatalysis. However, enhancing photocatalytic efficiency is still a challenging issue. In general, the efficiency is affected by physio-chemical properties such as crystalline phase, crystallinity, exposed crystal facets, crystallite size, porosity, and surface/bulk defects. Here we propose an alternative approach to enhance the efficiency by studying interfaces between thin TiO2 layers to be stacked; that is, the interfacial phenomena influencing on the formation of porous structures, controlling crystallite sizes and crystallinity. To do so, multi-layered TiO2 thin films were fabricated by using a sol-gel method. Specifically, a single TiO2 thin layer with a thickness range of 20~40 nm was deposited on a silicon wafer and annealed at $600^{\circ}C$. The processing step was repeated up to 6 times. The resulting structures were characterized by conventional electron microscopes, and followed by carrying out photocatalytic performances. The multi-layered TiO2 thin films with enhancing photocatalytic efficiency can be readily applied for bio- and gas sensing devices.

  • Heterogeneous photocatalysis is developed rapidly in the field of engineering of environmental. It has a good potential to tackle with the enhancing traffic pollution. Adding photocatalyst to usual building materials such as cement and concrete makes friendly environmental materials against the air pollution. TiO2 nanoparticles are a good item for concrete structures for diminishing the air polluting affect by gasses of exhaust. In specific, the transformation of NOx to NO3- is studied and the interaction of TiO2 nanoparticles and concrete is investigated here by experimental test. This paper presents an overview of the principle of photocatalysis and the application in combination with cement, as well as the results of the laboratory research, especially towards air purifying action. In addition, by the analytical models, the influence of TiO2 nanoparticles is studied on the stiffness of the concrete. The Results show that TiO2 nanoparticles have significant effect on the reduction of environmental pollution and increase of stiffness in the concrete structures.
