The precursor powders with thin wall structure were prepared by spray pyrolysis from the spray solution with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, citric acid and $NH_4Cl$ flux. The $BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}:Eu$ phosphor powders formed from the spray solution without organic additives and flux material had sizes of $1{\sim}5{\mu}m$ and hollow structure with high thickness at post-treatment temperature of $1,200^{\circ}C$. However, $BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}:Eu$ phosphor powders formed from the spray solution with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, citric acid and $NH_4Cl$ flux had fine size and plate-like shape. The mean crystallite sizes of the phosphor powders with fine sizes were 23, 35, and 33 nm when the content of $NH_4Cl$ flux were 0, 6, 35 wt% of phosphor. The photoluminescence intensity of the phosphor powders formed from the spray solution with the optimum amount of $NH_4Cl$ flux as 35 wt% was 215% of that of the phosphor powders formed from the spray solution without flux material.
Rare earth based calcium aluminate phosphor ($CaAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$, $Nd^{3+}$) supported $TiO_2$ nanoparticles are synthesized by using sol-gel method, which are further characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), diffuse reflectance UV-Visible spectroscopy (DRS UV-Vis) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The XRD pattern of as-prepared and sintered phosphor supported $TiO_2$ does not show the tendency to change the crystal structure from anatase to rutile phase up to $600^{\circ}C$. This indicates that the phosphor support might inhibit the densification and crystallite growth by providing dissimilar boundaries. The diffuse reflectance spectral (DRS) measurements showed shift towards longer wavelength indicating reduction in the band-gap energy as compared to free $TiO_2$. The FT-IR spectra of phosphor supported $TiO_2$ nanoparticles show shift in the peak positions to lower wavelengths. This indicates that the $TiO_2$ nanoparticles are not free, but covalently bonded to the phosphor support. TEM micrographs show presence of crystalline and spherical $TiO_2$ nanoparticles (8 - 15 nm diameter) dispersed uniformly on the surface of phosphor.
Thermoluminescent phosphors, which are now being used widely in radiation dosimetry, have an excellent sensitivity to ionizing radiation. In this study, thermoluminescent phosphors of $CaSO_4$ : Mn, $CaSO_4$ : Dy and $CaSO_4$ : Tm are prepared and their physical properties are investigated by measuring the trapping parameters and their luminescent spectra. By considering the sensitivity to X-ray and fading characteristics, $CaSO_4$ : Dy is most adequate to imaging plate. The imaging plate are prepared by coating the $CaSO_4$ : Dy powder on the Al substrate and its dose dependence is linear within the range of 40 mGy-20 Gy X-ray. The sensitivity of imaging plate depends linearly on the thickness of coated phosphor layer up to $35\;mg/cm^2$ and is independent on the grain size of the phosphor in the range of $70{\sim}250\;{\mu}m$. By photographing the imaging plate, X-ray images of the test object are obtained and better than those of X-ray films.

There has been a critical issue in optical simulation of phosphors in LEDs due to their light-reabsorption properties. To improve the accuracy of optical modeling for a white LED package, we utilized the spectrum data of the phosphor-dispersed encapsulant film instead of the phosphor powder. By measuring white LED packages with green and red phosphors, the maximum difference between simulation and experimental results of a color temperature, a color rendition index number and a color coordinate corresponds to ${\Delta}T=95K$, ${\Delta}Ra=1.7$ and ${\Delta}xy=0.007$, respectively. Based on those results, the proposed method can well explain the change of emission spectra of white LEDs with more than two phosphors which introduce the complex optical phenomena such as absorption, reabsorption, light emission, reflection and scattering, etc.

In this study, we have synthesized $ZnGa_2O_4$:Mn,X powder doped with Mn, MnO, $MnF_2$ and $MnCl_2$, low voltage green emitting phosphor, in vacuum atmosphere. From PL spectra, the intensity of the emission peak, the brightness with coactivator show that $ZnGa_2O_4$:Mn,Cl > $ZnGa_2O_4$:Mn,F > $ZnGa_2O_4$:Mn,O > $ZnGa_2O_4$:Mn. These improvement of the brightness are caused by the increase of the concentration of $Mn^{2+}$ ion. In case of $ZnGa_2O_4$:Mn,Cl and ZnGa$_2$O$_4$:Mn,F, the brightness is enhanced much more, which is owed to the decrease of defect of host material. For $ZnGa_2O_4$:Mn,Cl phosphor fabricated with optimized condition, the decay time becomes short from 30 ms of the $ZnGa_2O_4$:Mn and $ZnGa_2O_4$:Mn,O to 6 ms and the brightness of CL at 1 kV, 1 mA is 60 cd/$m^2$.

The preparation of ZnS:Mn,Cl phosphor has been carried out by combustion method. Manganese nitrate was decomposed with an organic fuel at $500^{\circ}C$ to give fine sized crystallites in presence of alkali metal halides at a lower temperature than the conventional synthesis. The phosphors thus obtained were then heated at 900 to $1200^{\circ}C$ in an inert atmosphere, for 3hours to get better luminescent properties. The phosphors were prepared at different temperatures and at different doping concentrations of manganese to determine the optimal conditions for synthesizing the phosphors with superior optical properties. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) investigations have been carried out to observe the particle morphology and the grain size. Powder X-ray diffraction(XRD) was also performed to characterize the phosphors.

The preparation and luminescence characterization of yttrium oxide doped with trivalent europium phosphors by sol-gel method have been investigated. Aqueous metal nitrate solution was mixed with EDTA which was chosen by the most suitable material of sol-gel formation one of appled various chelating agents. we noticed that the samples when are heated with EDTA at a temperature of $100^{\circ}C$ for 1hrs, produced brownish and crisp powders due to condensation reaction on decomposition, dehydration and formation of sol-gel. Hence, when the powder pre-heated was then heated at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 3hrs in atmosphere, the luminescence characterization of resultant $Y_{2}O_{3}:Eu^{3+}$ phosphor was enhanced upto maximum 30% significantly than conventional method through increasing porous region and decreasing particle sizes.

The synthesis and luminescent properties of trivalent europium activated gadolinium oxide red phosphors by sol-gel process have been investigated. Aqueous metal nitrate solution was mixed with EDTA which was chosen by the most suitable material of sol-gel formation as chelating agents. We noticed that the samples when are heated with EDTA at a temperature of $100^{\circ}C$ for lhrs, produced brownish and crisp powders due to condensation reaction on decomposition, dehydration and formation of sol-gel. Hence, when the powder pre-heated at about $100^{\circ}C$ was then heated at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 3hrs in atmosphere, the luminescence properties of resultant $Gd_{2}O_{3}:Eu^{3+}$ phosphor was measured by SEM, FT-IT and brightness intensity was shown 20% higher than those prepared by conventional method and by other chelating agent.

$BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}:Eu^{2+}$ for PDP blue phosphor was synthesized using SHS(Self-propagating High temperature Synthesis) method. While Al metal powder was oxidized in this combustion, $Eu_{2}O_3$ was reduced to Eu2+. Therefore the mole ratio of $Al/Al_{2}O_3$ is one of the most important variable of the reaction. When $Al/Al_{2}O_3$ is 2.5/3.75, it has not only appropriate temperature and reaction velocity, but also excellent luminescent property. The sample synthesized in this system has similar characteristics comparing to sample using conventional solid-state reaction.

The synthesis of $Zn_{2}SiO_4:Mn^{2+}$ for PDP green phosphor by SHS(Self-propagating High temperature Synthesis method) was studied. The precursors were well mixed and cold compacted. And then, the green pellet was synthesized at high temperature through self-propagating high temperature zone. Because this reaction uses the heat resulted from the oxidation of Zn metal powder in this system, Zn/ZnO mole ratio is one of the most important reaction variable. Throughout several experiments, the optimal condition of Zn/ZnO mole ratio and Mn concentration are 1.2/0.8 and 0.05mo1e, respectively.
