Hardening and hydroxyapatite(HAp) formation behavior of the bioactive cements in the system of $CaO-SiO_{2}-P_{2}O_{5}$ glasses and the corresponding glass-ceramics were studied. DCPD (Dicalcium Phosphate Dihydrate: $CaHPO_4{\cdot}2H_2O$) and DCPA (Dicalcium Phosphate Anhydrous: $CaHPO_4$) were developed when the prepared glass and glass-ceramic powders were mixed with three different solutions. The DCPD and DCPA transformed to HAp when the cement was soaked in Simulated Body Fluid (SBF), and this HAp formation strongly depended on the releasing capacity of $Ca^{2+}$ ions from the cements. The glass-ceramic containing apatite showed fast setting, but no HAp formation was observed because no $Ca^{2+}$ ions were released from this glass-ceramics. The compressive strength of the cements increased with reaction time in SBF until all DCPD and DCPA transformed to HAp.

Optical working machines are developed. the machines are to be used in the preparation of Nd-phosphate glass amplifier rod and elliptical disk amplifier plate of the high power Nd-YLF-phosphate glass laser amplifier system. In this report, the working principles of the machines are presented, and several results are shown by photographes, design drawing and the disks actually fabricated by using the machines.
An in vitro study was performed to compare the retentive value of cast post cemented with three commonly used cements and one composite resin. Twenty cast posts were made from twenty extracted lower premolars. The samples were randomly divided into four groups. The first group was cemented with zinc phosphate cement, the second group with polycarboxylate cement, the third group with glass-ionomer cement, and the fourth group with composite resin. The tensile load test was performed on an Instron testing machine with crosshead speed of 2 mm/min and the results were compared statistically. The results were as follows ; 1. The mean value of tensile break force of cemented cast post was 23.36Kg in case of zinc phosphate cement, 16.28Kg in case of polycarboxylate cement, 22.09Kg in case of glass-ionomer cement , and 26.88Kg in case of composite resin. 2. Retention was not significantly different among zinc phosphate cement, glass-ionomer cement and composite resin. 3. Polycarboxylate cement was found to be less retentive than zinc phosphate cement, glass-ionomer cement , and composite resin.

The goal of periodontal treatment is not only to arrest the progression of the disease but also to promote the functional, esthetic regeneration of the periodontium. Flap operation, bone graft, guided tissue regeneration, growth factors and bone morphogenetic protein have been used for this purpose. Among these techniques of regeneration, alloplastic graft, especially calcium phosphate is getting more attention recently. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of calcium phosphate glass on mouse calvarial cell in vitro. The toxicity of calcium phosphate glass was measured using MTT assay, the synthesis of collagen was measured using collagen assay, and ALP activity was measured. The experimental groups were cultured with calcium phosphate glass(both AQ-, and HT-CPG) in concentration of 0.01, 0.02, 0.1, 0.2g/ml. The results are as follows 1. In concentrations not exceeding 0.02g/ml, both the groups(AQ-CPG, HT-CPG) didn't show any toxicity on mouse calvarial cell(p<0.05). 2. In both the experimental groups are the concentration of 0.02g/ml, collagen expressions were significantly up-regulated (p<0.05). 3. In both the experimental groups are the concentration of 0.02g/ml, ALP activity was not significantly up-regulated, but ALP activity in both experimental groups were greater than control group(p<0.05). The results suggested that the use of calcium phosphate glass may promotes periodontal regeneration. Ongoing studies are necessary in order to determine their regeneration effects.

Phosphate glass samples with various $Cr_2O_3$ and $Er_2O_3$ contents based upon $55P_2O_5\cdot24BaO\cdot10K_2O\cdot4Al_2O_3\cdot6Yb_2O_3$ were prepared. The prepared glass compositions are dehydrated using gas bubble flow method in open system and investigated the effects of the eliminating of OH groups from the glass melts with bubbling time. It was found that the probability of $Er^{+3}$ fluorescence quenching by OH groups oscillations linear depends upon the OH groups absorption coefficients in the maximum of the stretch vibrations band at $3500cm^{-1}$ while $Er^{+3}$ concentration range is between $1.6\times10^{19}$ and $21.2\times10^{19}$ ion/$cm^3$.
As the prosthetic application of natural mineral substituted for chemical reagent, composites and a glass-ceramics containing hydro-xyapatite isolated from tuna bone were prepared by solid state reaction. On x-ray examinations, the major phases of composites were identified as pseudowollastonite(${\alpha}-CaSiO_3$) and ${\beta}$-tricalcium phosphate($\beta$-TCP) and the phase of a glass-ceramics was observed as $\beta$-TCP and fluoroapatite caused by $CaF_2$ respectively. SEM images depict that the microstructures of grain at the composites were a function of temperature. The measured strength of a glass-ceramics prepared at $900^{\circ}C$ for 4 hr in air was 90 MPa as a 4-point bending method and this value was similar to the cortical bone, as 50~150 MPa but it was lower than its maximum strength.

Dielectric layer of phosphate glass for plasma display panel (PDP) device made by silk screen printing on soda-lime glass. For regulate thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) of between substrate glass and dielectric layer use addition of $Al_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$. The crystallization process of glass-ceramics for dielectric layer have been examined by DTA, XRD some of optical, electrical properties of the dielectric layer were evaluated by UV-spectrometer, dilatometer, impedance analyser. The principal crystalline phase was identified as zinc metaphosphate [$Zn(PO_3)_2$] and zinc pyrophosphate [$Zn_2P_2O_7$]. Reflectance and dielectric constance increased with the addition of $TiO_2$ filler, dielectric constant lower the out side reflectance unchanging of the adding of $Al_2O_3$ filler. Besides CTE was at about $62{\times}10^{-7}/^{\circ}C$.
Phosphate glasses known for low melting temperature glasses in electrical parts has been recently used in wide area with modification of thermal properties using alkali oxides. It is our purpose to find a correlation between thermal expansion coefficient, glass transition temperature and melting temperature through investigating thermal properties in P$_2$O$\sub$5/-SnO-ZnO-SiO$_2$/B$_2$O$_3$. As a result, the product of thermal expansion coefficient and the glass transition temperature in the glasses is found to be a constant value would be a unique value for knowing one of thermal properties.
