In this paper, it is investigated that the limitation due to the asymmetry of optical power with respect to optical phase conjugator(OPC) in mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI) for compensating optical signal distortion due to group velocity dispersion(GVD) and nonlinearities generated in fiber by combining with lumped dispersion management(DM) technique into MSSI. Two kinds of lumped DM configuration(configuration A and configuration B) are considered and compared each other in this research. Configuration A consists of two dispersion compensating fiber(DCF) span positioned after transmitter and before receiver, respectively. Configuration B consists of two dispersion compensating fiber(DCF) span positioned before and after OPC placed at middle of total transmission link, respectively. It is confirmed that the transmission performances are more improved by the configuration A combined with MSSI than configuration B. Also, it is confirmed that the best performance of overall channels are obtained by making net residual dispersion(NRD) to have positive value in self phase modulation(SPM)-limited WDM transmission systems, irrelevant to the configuration of DM.
The gas hydrate exploration using seismic reflection data, the detection of BSR(Bottom Simulating Reflector) on the seismic section is the most important work flow because the BSR have been interpreted as being formed at the base of a gas hydrate zone. Usually, BSR has some dominant qualitative characteristics on seismic section i.e. Wavelet phase reversal compare to sea bottom signal, Parallel layer with sea bottom, Strong amplitude, Masking phenomenon above the BSR, Cross bedding with other geological layer. Even though a BSR can be selected on seismic section with these guidance, it is not enough to conform as being true BSR. Some other available methods for verifying the BSR with reliable analysis quantitatively i.e. Interval velocity analysis, AVO(Amplitude Variation with Offset)analysis etc. Usually, AVO analysis can be divided by three main parts. The first part is AVO analysis, the second is AVO modeling and the last is AVO inversion. AVO analysis is unique method for detecting the free gas zone on seismic section directly. Therefore it can be a kind of useful analysis method for discriminating true BSR, which might arise from an Possion ratio contrast between high velocity layer, partially hydrated sediment and low velocity layer, water saturated gas sediment. During the AVO interpretation, as the AVO response can be changed depend upon the water saturation ratio, it is confused to discriminate the AVO response of gas layer from dry layer. In that case, the AVO modeling is necessary to generate synthetic seismogram comparing with real data. It can be available to make conclusions from correspondence or lack of correspondence between the two seismograms. AVO inversion process is the method for driving a geological model by iterative operation that the result ing synthetic seismogram matches to real data seismogram wi thin some tolerance level. AVO inversion is a topic of current research and for now there is no general consensus on how the process should be done or even whether is valid for standard seismic data. Unfortunately, there are no well log data acquired from gas hydrate exploration area in Korea. Instead of that data, well log data and seismic data acquired from gas sand area located nearby the gas hydrate exploration area is used to AVO analysis, As the results of AVO modeling, type III AVO anomaly confirmed on the gas sand layer. The Castagna's equation constant value for estimating the S-wave velocity are evaluated as A=0.86190, B=-3845.14431 respectively and water saturation ratio is $50\%$. To calculate the reflection coefficient of synthetic seismogram, the Zoeppritz equation is used. For AVO inversion process, the dataset provided by Hampson-Rushell CO. is used.
The purpose of this study was to determine the biomechanical effect of wearing carbon nanotube-based insole on cushioning and muscle tuning during drop landing. Twenty male university students(age: $21.2{\pm}1.5yrs$, height: $175.4{\pm}4.7cm$, weight: $70.2{\pm}5.8kg$) who have no musculoskeletal disorder were recruited as the subjects. Average axial strain, average shear strain, inversion angle, linear velocity, angular velocity, vertical GRF and loading rate were determined for each trial. For each dependent variable, a one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA) with repeated measures was performed to test if significant difference existed among different three conditions(p<.05). The results showed that Average axial strain of line 4 was significantly less in CNT compared with EVA and PU during IP phase. The average shear strain was less in CNT compared with EVA and PU during other phases. The inversion angle was increased in CNT compared with EVA and PU during all phase. In linear velocity, angular velocity, vertical GRF and loading rate, there were no significant difference between the three groups. This result seems that fine particle of carbon nanotube couldn't make geometric form which can absolve impact force by increasing density through eliminating voids of forms. Thus, searching for methods that keep voids of forms may play a pivotal role in developing of insole. This has led to suggestions of the need for further biomechanical analysis to these factors.
It was necessary to devise new techniques to overcome and enhance the resolution limits of traveltime tomography. Waveform inversion has been one of the methods for giving very high resolution result. High resolution image could be acquired because waveform inversion used not only phase but amplitude. But waveform inversion was much time consuming Job because forward and backward modeling was needed at each iteration step. Velocity-stress method was used for effective modeling. Resolution limits of imaging methods such as travel time inversion, acoustic and elastic waveform inversion were investigated with numerical models. it was investigated that Resolution limit of waveform inversion was similar tn resolution limit of migration derived by Schuster. Horizontal resolution limit could be improved with increased coverage by adding VSP data in cross hole that had insufficient coverage. Also, waveform inversion was applied to realistic models to evaluate applicability and using initial guess of travel time tomograms to reduce non-linearity of waveform inversion showed that the better reconstructed image could be acquired.

The changes of electromagnetic wave velocity in rock were monitored to investigate rock behaviors due to the drill & blasting excavations through georadar tomography during the construction of the underground rock laboratory (5 m wide, 6 m high, and 140 m long) at Mabuk-Ri, Goosung-Myun, Yongin-Si, Kyunggi-Do. Two horizontal boreholes spaced 1.4 m apart were drilled parallel to the test tunnel before excavating it, high-resolution crosshole georadar tomography with about 500 MHz electromagnetic waves was performed at pre-excavation phase (May, 1996) and post-excavation phase (August, 1996). The data were acquired with the combination of 34 sources and 44 receivers with space of 0.3 m. Only 11 continuous receivers were selectively utilized with one fixed source. Sampling interval was 0.4 ns and each trace has 512 samples. The first arrival of each trace was picked manually with a picking software. The total number of rays used in inversion amounted to 34x11 and the size of pixel was determined to be 0.3 m. As an inversion technique, SIRT(Simultaneous Iterative Reconstruction Technique) was applied in this study. The velocity of electromagnetic waves at post-excavation phase decreased as large as 15% in comparison with that at pre-excavation phase, which may be attributed to the creation of micro-cracks in rock due to excavations and saturation with groundwater. Small amount of borehole deviation made a critical effect in radar tomography. Totally different tomograms were created after borehole deviation corrections.
In this paper, we demonstrate that Common Mid-Point (CMP) cross-correlation gathers of multi-channel and multi-shot surface waves give accurate phase-velocity curves, and enable us to reconstruct two-dimensional (2D) velocity structures with high resolution. Data acquisition for CMP cross-correlation analysis is similar to acquisition for a 2D seismic reflection survey. Data processing seems similar to Common Depth-Point (CDP) analysis of 2D seismic reflection survey data, but differs in that the cross-correlation of the original waveform is calculated before making CMP gathers. Data processing in CMP cross-correlation analysis consists of the following four steps: First, cross-correlations are calculated for every pair of traces in each shot gather. Second, correlation traces having a common mid-point are gathered, and those traces that have equal spacing are stacked in the time domain. The resultant cross-correlation gathers resemble shot gathers and are referred to as CMP cross-correlation gathers. Third, a multi-channel analysis is applied to the CMP cross-correlation gathers for calculating phase velocities of surface waves. Finally, a 2D S-wave velocity profile is reconstructed through non-linear least squares inversion. Analyses of waveform data from numerical modelling and field observations indicate that the new method could greatly improve the accuracy and resolution of subsurface S-velocity structure, compared with conventional surface-wave methods.

Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), an increasingly growing acquisition technique in the oil and gas exploration and seismology fields, has been used to record seismic signals using optical cables as receivers. With the development of imaging methods for DAS data, full waveform inversion (FWI) is been applied to DAS data to obtain high-resolution property models such as P- and S-velocity. However, because the DAS systems measure strain from the phase distortion between two points along optical cables, DAS data must be transformed from strain to particle velocity for FWI algorithms. In this study, a plane-wave FWI algorithm based on the relationship between strain and horizontal particle velocity in the plane-wave assumption is proposed to apply FWI to DAS data. Under the plane-wave assumption, strain equals the horizontal particle velocity, which is scaled by the velocity at the receiver position. This relationship was confirmed using a numerical experiment. Furthermore, 4-layer and modified Marmousi-2 velocity models were used to verify the applicability of the proposed FWI algorithm in various survey environments. The proposed FWI was implemented in land and marine survey environments and provided high-resolution P- and S-velocity models.
Time-lapse crosswell seismic data, recorded before and after the cavity filling, showed that the filling increased the velocity at a known cavity zone in an old mine site in Inchon area. The seismic response depicted on the tomogram and in conjunction with the geologic data from drillings imply that the size of the cavity may be either small or filled by debris. In this study, I attempted to evaluate the filling effect by analyzing velocity measured from the time-lapse tomograms. The data acquired by a downhole airgun and 24-channel hydrophone system revealed that there exists measurable amounts of source statics. I presented a methodology to estimate the source statics. The procedure for this method is: 1) examine the source firing-time for each source, and remove the effect of irregular firing time, and 2) estimate the residual statics caused by inaccurate source positioning. This proposed multi-step inversion may reduce high frequency numerical noise and enhance the resolution at the zone of interest. The multi-step inversion with different starting models successfully shows the subtle velocity changes at the small cavity zone. The inversion procedure is: 1) conduct an inversion using regular sized cells, and generate an image of gross velocity structure by applying a 2-D median filter on the resulting tomogram, and 2) construct the starting velocity model by modifying the final velocity model from the first phase. The model was modified so that the zone of interest consists of small-sized grids. The final velocity model developed from the baseline survey was as a starting velocity model on the monitor inversion. Since we expected a velocity change only in the cavity zone, in the monitor inversion, we can significantly reduce the number of model parameters by fixing the model out-side the cavity zone equal to the baseline model.
In order to assess the safety diagnosis and grouting reinforcement effect of old reservoir facility, local governments and public offices mainly use electrical resistivity survey. However, electrical resistivity survey is a qualitative evaluation that varies the resistivity value by various exploration conditions. It is also difficult to grasp the stiffness change directly related to the stability of reservoir, thus an electrical resistivity survey is not applicable to continuous stability monitoring after grouting. The purpose of this study is to investigate and validate the quantitative evaluation of reinforcement effect of reservoir with cement grouting through shear velocity (Vs), which is closely related to the stiffness (${\mu}$) of the ground. This study was carried out on two reservoir facilities. The reinforcement effect was evaluated by comparing the permeability test, standard penetration test, down-hole test and MASW(Multi-channel Analysis of Surface wave) survey before and after cement grouting. Shear wave velocity changes before and after grouting were analyzed by phase velocity difference and inversion analysis, respectively, and the reliability of the analytical results was evaluated by comparing with field test results. Shear wave velocity increases to 5~10% in case of the D levee, and 10~20% in the levee of H reservoir. These results are showed similar pattern to the field test results.
Background: Diseases related to cerebrospinal fluid flow, such as hydrocephalus, syringomyelia, and Chiari malformation, are often found in small dogs. Although studies in human medicine have revealed a correlation with cerebrospinal fluid flow in these diseases by magnetic resonance imaging, there is little information and no standard data for normal dogs. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to obtain cerebrospinal fluid flow velocity data from the cerebral aqueduct and subarachnoid space at the foramen magnum in healthy beagle dogs. Methods: Six healthy beagle dogs were used in this experimental study. The dogs underwent phase-contrast and time-spatial labeling inversion pulse magnetic resonance imaging. Flow rate variations in the cerebrospinal fluid were observed using sagittal time-spatial labeling inversion pulse images. The pattern and velocity of cerebrospinal fluid flow were assessed using phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging within the subarachnoid space at the foramen magnum level and the cerebral aqueduct. Results: In the ventral aspect of the subarachnoid space and cerebral aqueduct, the cerebrospinal fluid was characterized by a bidirectional flow throughout the cardiac cycle. The mean ± SD peak velocities through the ventral and dorsal aspects of the subarachnoid space and the cerebral aqueduct were 1.39 ± 0.13, 0.32 ± 0.12, and 0.76 ± 0.43 cm/s, respectively. Conclusions: Noninvasive visualization of cerebrospinal fluid flow movement with magnetic resonance imaging was feasible, and a reference dataset of cerebrospinal fluid flow peak velocities was obtained through the cervical subarachnoid space and cerebral aqueduct in healthy dogs.
