Some Physical and Electrical Properties of Zirconia Solid Electrolyte Contained Yttria (이트리아를 함유한 지르코니아 고체전해질의 물리적, 전기적 특성)

  • Zirconia soild electrolytes containing 4~10mol% of yttria were prepared by wet-blending of oxides and rea-ction-sintering, Sinterbility and degree of stabilization were optimized for the development of oxygen sensor. Fracture strength thermal expansion coefficient electrical conductivity and galvanic potential were measured and discussed with respect to the amount of ytria addition phase transformation microstructure and degree of stabilization. It was found that sintering and stabilization occurred when the composition was designed to be near the boundary region of $ZrO_2-Y_2O_3$ binary system. In such away a good zirconia solid electrolyte suitable for oxygen sensor could be developed.

  • It is a fundamental experiment to use blast-furnace slag in solidification/stabilization process. The compressive strength and leaching test of Pb and Cr doped samples were evaluated and the effects of heavy-metal ions on the hydration of slag was investigated. Sodium silicates(5wt%) was added as alkali-activator and the effects of replacing a part of slag with flyash or gypsum was also discussed. Pb ion was solidified by encapsulation of matrix. In of slag${\pm}$gypsum binder microstructure was densified by accelerating to form AFt/AFm phase and compressive strength was improved resulting in reducing leaching amount of Pb ion. Cr ion was solidified by substituting with Al ion in aluminate product. Slag+fly ash binder improved compressive strength and decreased leaching amount of Cr ion.

  • In order to use the symbiotic bacteria from ethomophatogenic nematodes as a biological control agent for agriculture, the cultural condition for maintaining phase I and antifungal activity was investigated. Symbiotic bacteria (SB) 1 stain from nematodes were selected from the three strains isolated from entomopathogenic nematodes. The growth of the SB 1 strain in NB, TSB, TY and YS medium was higher than that of the SB 2 and SB 3 strain. The packed cell volume of the SB 1 strain was reduced in NB medium which showed radical pH change. Phase I of the SB 1 strain was maintained in TSB medium after being stored for 2 weeks at $4^{\circ}C$. Culture broth with the SB 1 strain in TSB medium for 6 days and 7 days showed antifungal activities against Rhizoctonia solani KACC 40142, Botrytis cinerea Pers. KACC 40854, and Botrytis cinerea Pers. KACC 41008. Culture broth with the SB 1 strain in TSB medium containing 100 mM L-proline for 5 days showed antifungal activities against Rhizoctonia solani KACC 40142, and Botrytis cinerea Pers. KACC 40854.

  • In this work, styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) and styrene butadiene styrene (SBS) were used to modify asphalt, resulting in SBR- and SBS-modified asphalt, respectively. The two modified asphalts were emulsified with a nonionic emulsifier (Span 60) and cationic emulsifiers (ID, DDA) and their phase stabilization was investigated via particle size, Zeta potential, and flow behavior analysis. With increasing amount of the mixed emulsifier, the particle size decreased, leading to an increase in viscosity. The shear thinning behaviors and Zeta potential values ranging from 35-65 mV were determined and remained considerably stable. In addition, the adhesion strength and compression strength of the SBR-and SBS-modified asphalt emulsion were evaluated via surface free energy examination. The remarkable adhesion and compression strengths were estimated when 5 phr ID and 6 phr DDA were added to the emulsified asphalt modified with SBR and SBS. Therefore ID and DDA, the two cationic surfactants, played significant roles in improving the dispersion and interfacial adhesion strength, resulting in the improved adhesion and compression strength of the emulsified asphalts modified with SBR and SBS.

  • W/O/W multiple emulsions were prepared comprising $MgSO_4$ in the inner aqueous phase as a model drug. The stability and drug release behavior of the multiple emulsions were studied using optical microscopy, viscometry and conductometry. Glucose was introduced in the outer aqueous phase to reduce the osmotic pressure gradient across the oil layer arising from the localization of drug molecules in the inner water phase. It was found that the presence of glucose was effective in stabilization of the multiple emulsions and in control of the release rate of drug more evidently when oil phase was partially hydrophilized with cetostearyl alcohol. This may be attributed to the fact that the migration of water accompanying the hydrophilic surfactant to the inner water phase was limited under a reduced osmotic pressure gradient and thereby slow down the destabilization of the oil/inner water interface.

  • The objectives of this paper are to present data to illustrate how an advanced digestion process, two-phase digestion, can provide superior performance in terms of waste stabilization efficiency and net energy recovery. As the result, it is possible to separate enrichment cultures of acidogenic and methanogenic organisms in isolated environments by kinetic control involving manipulation of dilution rates. In single-phase digestion process, HRT and COD loading for effective operation were 14.29 days and 2.33kg $COD/m^3$ day, but two-phase digestion may be conducted efficiently at 7 days of HRT and 5.71kg $COD/m^3$ day of loading. Data from this studies showed that the two-phase process is better than single-phase digestion under all test conditions when compared on the bases of gas yield and production rate, reductions of COD and VS, buffer capacity, and unconverted volatile acids in the effluent.

  • In this study, to investigate the effect of stabilization of Pb-contaminated soil near a smelter site for the reduction of environmental risk of Pb leaching, commercial stabilizers were amended with the Pb-contaminated soil and evaluated leaching characteristics of Pb in soil by TCLP and SPLP leaching test. Also, performing sequential extraction procedure speciation of Pb in the amended soil was investigated. Limestone, AC-2 (Amron), Metafix (Peroxychem) that possess stabilization performance towards heavy metal in soil and mass production is available were selected as candidates. AC-2 contained a CaCO3 and MgO crystalline phase, while Metafix had a Fe7S8 crystalline phase, according to XRD studies. Pb content in SPLP extract was lower than the South Korean drinking water standard for Pb in groundwater at 4% AC-2 and Metafix treatment soil, and TCLP-based stabilization effectiveness was more than 90%. The findings of the sequential extraction method of soil treated with Metafix revealed that fractions 1 and 2 of Pb, which correspond to relatively high mobility and bioavailable fractions, were lowered, while the residual fraction (fraction 5) was raised. As a consequence, the order of performance for Pb stabilization in polluted soil was Metafix>AC-2>limestone.

  • Optical parametric oscillator(OPO) has been used to generate coherent and tunable laser source with birefringent phase-matching technique in various nonlinear materials. In birefringent phase-matching, the output wavelength is controlled with angle or temperature tuning of the refractive index. However these tuning methods have several limitations such as restriction of tuning wavelength due to reasonable angular and temperature tuning ranges, Poynting vector walk-off which limits the interaction length, and thermal stabilization time.   • Single mode optical fiber interferometeric sensors using phase tracking homodyne detection are typically susceptible to environmentally induced temperature fluctuations and other types of disturbances. In this paper compensator is described, which is a simple and effective phase tracking feedback electronic circuit must be output signal stabilized to achieve maximln sensitivity and linearity of Mach-Zehnder fiber-optic interferomter in the presence of differential phase drift. The phase tracking range of the piezoelectric cylinder in the reference arm is .+-.3.7.pi.rad, and the probe mass about 1 gram in the sensing ann was used for measurements of the gravity acceleration.
