Uranyl hydrolysis precipitates were obtained by increasing pH value of aqueous uranyl solution in the range of neutral to alkaline pH value and their phase transformation during the solubility experiment under various conditions has been examined. The precipitates formed in the hydrolysis reaction of uranyl ion had a layered structure such as a meta-schoepite phase, a schoepite structure, or a mixed phase of meta-schoepite and schoepite. Phase transformation between them was strongly dependent on the pH value at which the precipitate was formed. The distance between the layers in meta-schoepite or schoepite phase was ∼7.35 Å, and it was increased with the pH value at which the precipitate was synthesized as well as the pH values of the aqueous solution. The phase transformation from a meta-schoepite to schoepite was fast for the precipitates formed at low pH values, however, it was not the case for the precipitates formed at high pH values. A small difference of pH value in aqueous solution gave a great change on its solubilities near pH 9.7, because a layered structure of the precipitates became amorphous above that pH value. Greater solubility for the precipitate formed at higher pH value can be explained from the fact that the precipitates formed at low pH value had a better crystallinity and also that the precipitates formed at higher pH value has a slower rate of crystallization.

Samples of ($Bi_{2-x}Sb_x)PbSr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_y$, compositions with x=0.0, 0.1, and 0.2 were prepared by solid-state reaction. The solubility of Sb into the 2223 phase is lower than 0.05 for the ratio of Sb/Bi. The lack of stability of the Sb-substituted $Bi_2O_2$ double layers is likely to cause the solubility low. There is no great dependence of lattice parameters on the Sb-content, and bonds around the square-pyramidal Cu atom are not affected by the $Sb^{3+}$ ion substituted. The superconducting transition temperature of this system is decreased gradually with increase of Sb, which is tentatively attributable to the perturbation of the Bi 6p-O 2p band and/or to the low volume fraction of the 2223 phase.
Equilibrium concentrations of major elements in an underground repository with a capacity of 100,000 drums have been simulated using the geochemical computer code (EQMOD). The simulation has been carried out at the conditions of pH 12 to 13.5, and Eh 520 and -520 mV. Solubilities of magnesium and calcium decrease with the increase of pH. The solubility of iron increases with pH at Eh -520 mV of reducing environment while it almost entirely exists as the precipitate of Fe(OH)$_3$(s) at Eh 520 mV of oxidizing environment. All of cobalt and nickel are predicted to be dissolved in the liquid phase regardless of pH since the solubility limit is greater than the total concentration. In the case of cesium and strontium, all forms of both ions are present in the liquid phase because they have negligible sorption capacity on cement and large solubility under disposal atmosphere. And thus the total concentration determines the equilibrium concentration. Adsorbed amount of iodide and carbonate are dependent on adsorption capacity and adsorption equilibrium constant. Especially, the calcite turns out to be a solubility-limiting phase on the carbonate system. In order to validate the model, the equilibrium concentrations measured for a number of systems which consist of iron, cement, synthetic groundwater and radionuclides are compared with those predicted by the model. The concentrations between the model and the experiment of nonadsorptive elements cesium, strontium, cobalt nickel and iron, are well agreed. It indicates that the assumptions and the thermodynamic data in this work are valid. Using the adsorption equilibrium constant as a free parameter, the experimental data of iodide and carbonate have been fitted to the model. The model is in a good agreement with the experimental data of the iodide system.

The solubility of Ti in Al matrix was determined by X-ray diffraction method on two different mechanical alloying systems, i.e Al+$Al_3Ti$ and Al+Ti alloys. Starting powder compositions of two systems were chosen for final volume fraction of $Al_3Ti$ phase being 25%. The solubility of Ti in ${\alpha}$-Al was estimated by the lattice parameter measurement of Al. For Al+$Al_3Ti$ mixture, it appeared that some of $Al_3Ti$ particles decomposed during milling and maximum solubility of Ti in Al was about 0.99%. The majority of $Al_3Ti$ particles were dispersed uniformly in Al matrix, having approximate size of 100~200 nm. On the other hand, higher Ti solubility of 1.24 wt.% was found in Al+Ti system, with starting composition of Al+10 wt.%Ti. After 15 hours of milling, Ti phase was identified as 20 nm sized particles embedded in Al matrix. The annealing of mechanically alloyed powders from Al+$Al_3Ti$ and Al+10 wt.%Ti systems was followed in the temperature range of 200 to $600^{\circ}C$ to study thermal stability of supersaturated solution of Al(Ti). After annealing, the lattice parameter of Al reverted back to that of pure Al, and the peak intensity ratio of $Al_3Ti$/Al was increased more than the original value before annealing. These results suggest that Ti dissolve into alpha-Al solutions during milling, and by annealing, $Do_{22}-Al_3Ti$ phase forms from Al(Ti) solution.
The inclusion complexes of cyclodextrins (CDs) with flavones in aqueous solution were investigated by phase solubility measurements. The effect of b -cyclodextrin (b -CD), heptakis (2,6-di-O-methyl) b -cyclodextrin (DM-b -CD) and 2-hydroxypropyl-b -cyclodextrin (HP-b -CD) on the aqueous solubility of three flavones, namely, chrysin, apigenin and luteolin was investigated, respectively. Solubility enhancements of all flavones obtained with three CDs followed the rank order: HP-b -CD > DM-b -CD > b -CD, and besides, CDs show higher stability constant on luteolin than that on others flavones. 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and molecular modeling was used to help establish the model of interaction of the CDs with luteolin. NMR spectroscopic analysis suggested that A-C ring, and part of the B ring of luteolin display favorable interaction with the CDs, which was also confirmed by docking studies based on the molecular simulation. The observed augmentation of solubility of luteolin by three CDs was explained by the difference of electrostatic interaction of each complex, especially hydrogen bonding.

Hydrogen solubility in internally oxidized Pd-Mo(Al) alloys has been studied at 323 K from the measurements of pressure-composition(p-c) isotherms. Internal oxidation of $Pd_{0.985}Al_{0.015}$ and $Pd_{0.97}Mo_{0.03}$ alloys results in the precipitation of Al and Mo particles in a matrix of pure Pd. It has been observed that the presence of the aluminum and molybdenum oxide precipitates results in an enhanced hydrogen solubility in the dilute phase region of Pd-H in a Pd/aluminum(molybdenum)oxide composites. Hydrogen solubility enhancements due to the presence of residual stresses around ceramic particles have been observed from p-c isotherms determined at 323 K after oxidation at 1073 K. The solubility enhancements in completely internally oxidized alloys are greater than that in partially oxidized alloys. The stress fields near the ceramic precipitates are the major source of the solubility enhancements. Transmission electron microscopy indicates that alumina precipitates are nanometer-sized and coherent with the Pd matrix after oxidation.

The effects of surfactants affecting polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon(PAHs) solubility and biodegradation in soil slurry were investigated. The critical micelle concentration(CMC) values of surfactants used in this study were 12.7mg/L(Brij 30), 13.4mg/L(Tween 80), 13.6mg/t(Triton X-100). The solubility of PAH increased as the Hydrophile-Lipophile Balance(HLB) value of surfactant decrease. At surfactant biodegradation and toxicity experiement using respirometer, Brij 30 did not show any toxic effect and substrate inhibition upon the level of 1.5g/L. Also, biodegradation of Brij 30 gave no reduction on the phenanthrene biodegradation rate. When the desorption rate of phenanthrene between sand and clay is compared, lower percentage of phenanthrene was desorbed at clay because of the larger surface aera and higher organic content of clay. At the biodegradation experiments of phenanthrene in soil slurry phase, more than 90% of initial phenanthrene adsorbed onto both sand and clay were biodegraded by phenanthrene- acclimated cultures.

Complex formation of practically insoluble dexamethasone dipropionate (DDP) with ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (${\beta}$-CD), dimethyl-${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (DMCD), trimethyl-${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (TMCD), 2-hydroxypropyl-${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (HPCD) and sulfobutyl ether ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (SBCD) in water was investigated by solubility method at various temperatures. Water solubility of DDP was found to be 1.78 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ at 37$^{\circ}C$. Propylene glycol (PG)-water cosolvent increased the solubility of DDP, but the solubilization was not sufficient (8.93 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ in 20% PG). The addition of CD markedly increased the solubility of DDP in water, and A$\sub$L/ type phase solubility diagrams were obtained with ${\beta}$-CD, TMCD, HPCD and SBCD, where the apparent stability constants of the soluble complexes at 25$^{\circ}C$ were determined to be 1388, 216, 1054, and 1992 M$\^$-1/, respectively. However, DMCD remarkably increased the solubility of DDP, and showed an A$\sub$P/ type diagram, suggesting that DMCD forms a soluble complex of high order with DDP. The stability constant for the DDP-DMCD complex at 25$^{\circ}C$ was determined to be 19132 M$\^$-1/. The thermodynamic parameters were calculated for the inclusion complex formation in aqueous solution. CD (1${\times}$10$\^$-2/M) remarkably decreased the partition coefficients of DDP between isopropyl myristate/water in the order of TMCD < ${\beta}$-CD < HPCD < SBCD < DMCD, and in squalane/water system in the order of HPCD < TMCD < ${\beta}$-CD < DMCD < DMCD $\leq$ SBCD. This finding represents that, in a o/w type cream, cyclodextrin complexation with DDP may result in high concentration of DDP in aqueous phase. The permeation of DDP through a cellophane membrane was highly suppressed by the addition of CD, and the degree of suppression was different among CDs, indicating that CD may control the skin permeation of DDP. The dissolution rates of solid dispersions with CDs were much faster than those of drugs alone and corresponding physical mixtures. All DDP-CD solid dispersions exceeded the equilibrium solubility. Consequently these results suggest that complex formation of DDP with CDs may provide useful means to markedly enhance the solubility, and CDs are useful in the semi-solid preparations such as creams and gels for topical application.
To increase the stability and bioavailability of Omeprazole(OMP), which is used newly as a proton-pump inhibitor, inclusion complex of OMP with $\beta$-cyclodextrin($\beta$-CD) was prepared by coprecipitation method and its characteristics were ascertained by means of solubility test, DSC, IR, and the accelerated stability analysis. The type of OMP inclusion complex is classified as Bs-type on phase solubility diagram, and the stoichiometric ratio of OMP: $\beta$-CD complex is 1:2 and formation constant is 80.82/mole. The solubility of the complex could be increased remarkably by complexation compare with OMP. Degradation process of both OMP and OMP complex followed apparent first-order kinetics, of which degradation rate constants and activation energies are k$_{25}$=8.1$\times$10$^{-4}$/day, E$_{a}$=22 Kcal/mole (OMP), and k$_{25}$=4.65$\times$10$^{-6}$/day, E$_{a}$=35 Kcal/mole (complex), respectively. These results show the increase of the stability and solubility of OMP markedly, therefore it is believed that the improvement of stabilization for OMP by inclusion complexation might be practically available.
The solubility of $TiO_2$ in $NaF-CaF_2-BaF_2$ ternary eutectic melts was investigated at the temperature range of $1025-1150^{\circ}C$. The least-squares equation was obtained from the relationship between the reciprocal temperature and the natural logarithm of the titanium concentration in the melts saturated with $TiO_2$. The corresponding partial molar enthalpy of dissolution of $TiO_2$ was found to be 188 kJ/mol. The titanium saturation concentration was 3.73 wt% at $1100^{\circ}C$. From the titanium concentration change with the added amount of $TiO_2$ at different holding time after a final stirring, it was found that not only complete dissolution of $TiO_2$ but also enough sedimentation of excessive $TiO_2$ should be guaranteed to obtain more reliable solubility data. The holding time of 10 h was found to be enough for the excessive $TiO_2$ particles to settle down in our experimental conditions. It is noteworthy that in case of adding $TiO_2$ in excess of its solubility, the $Ba_{1.12}(Ti_8O_{16})$ phase was observed at the lower and bottom of the solidified salt ingots.
