  • The magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of $Gd_{1-x}Ce_xAl_2$ (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75) intermetallic compounds alloys have been investigated in detail for the first time. XRD patterns indicated that all the samples were crystallized in a single phase with $MgCu_2$-type structure (Laves phase). Ce substitution for Gd increased the lattice parameters and decreased the Curie temperature from 163 K for x = 0 to 37 K for x = 0.75. A maximum entropy change of 3.82 J/kg K was observed when a 2 T magnetic field was applied to the x = 0 sample. This entropy change decreased with increasing Ce content to 2.04 J/kg K for the x = 0.75 sample.

  • Carbide dissolution during heating processes can change chemical composition of martensitic stainless steel in its austenitic phase. Although the austenitizing treatments were carried out at a homogeneous austenite region, the amount of carbon atom in the matrix differs. Increase in the amount of carbon contents in the matrix resulted in decreasing MS temperature, which consequently causes the volume fraction of the retained austenite to increase. This study reveals the effects of the austenitizing treatment on the properties of Fe - 0.3C - 14Cr - 3Mo martensitic stainless steel change with different austenitizing temperatures.

  • The effect of substrate rotation speed on the phase forming behavior and microstructural variation of 8 wt% yttria ($Y_2O_3$) stabilized $ZrO_2$ (8YSZ) coatings as a thermal barrier coating has been investigated. 8YSZ coatings with $100{\sim}200{\mu}m$ thickness were deposited by electron beam-physical vapor deposition onto a super alloy (Ni-Cr-Co-Al) substrate with a bond coating (NiCo-CrAlY). The width of the columnar grains of the 8YSZ coatings increased with increasing substrate rotation speed from 1 to 30 rpm at a substrate temperature range of $900{\sim}950^{\circ}C$. In spite of the different growth behaviors of coatings with different substrate rotation speeds, the phases of each coating were not changed remarkably. Even after post heat treatments with various conditions of the coated specimens fabricated at 20 rpm, only a change of color was noticeable, without any remarkable change in the phase or microstructure.

  • The effect of carbon content on the shape of WC grains dispersed in the Co-rich matrix during liquid phase sintering of WC-35%Co hard metals has been determined. The shape of WC grains was observed using SEM stereography after removing cobalt matrix with boiling hydrochloric acid solution. The WC grains changed from hexagonal to trigonal prism as the carbon content increased in the two-phase region of(WC + $\beta$ - Co), while the morphology of WC grains changed from trigonal to hexagonal shape as the carbon content decreased. The morphology of WC grains changes reversibly along with carbon loss or carbon pick-up. Morphology change of WC grains is attributed to crystal structure of WC, which has an asymmetric array of carbon atoms. There are two types of prismatic planes having different numbers of broken W-C bonds in WC grains. It is scrutinized that as the carbon content increases, the high energy prism planes grow fast and the crystals change from hexagonal to trigonal shape. On the other hand, when the carbon content decreases, the high energy prism planes are dissolved accompanying split of (100) plane into (101) and (101) planes.

  • The change of optical transmittance of $PdH_x$ thin film due to hydrogen concentration change was measured at room temperature. Pd film($312{\AA}$ thick) was made by thermal evaporation on glass substrate. Hydrogen absorption and desorption cycling effect on optical transmittance was measured 4 times in the pressure range between 0 and 640 torr. Ratio of optical transmittance to the change of ln pressure(torr) increases with increasing number of hydrogen A-D cyclings in the ${\beta}$ phase.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of supercooling repression on the TMA clathrate by adding ethylene glycol. For this purpose, phase change temperature, supercooling, specific heat, latent heat and rate of volume change were measured and evaluated experimentally for heat source temperatures of -6$^{\circ}C$, -7$^{\circ}C$, -8$^{\circ}C$. The results show that supercooling was decreased. Thus the experimental results are expected to be used for the increase of coefficient of performance of low temperature thermal storage system in the building.

  • The effect of process temperature of a final annealing step in the fabrication of phase change memory (PCM) devices was investigated. Discrete PCM devices employing $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ (GST) films as an active element were made in a pore-style configuration, and they were annealed at various temperatures ranging from 160 to $300^{\circ}C$. The behaviors of cell resistance change from SET resistance to RESET resistance were totally different according to the annealing temperatures. There was a critical annealing temperature for the fabrication of normal PCM devices and abnormal operations were observed in some devices annealed at temperatures lower or higher than the critical temperature. Those influences of annealing temperature seem closely related to the thermal stability of a top electrode/GST/heating layer multilayer structure in the PCM devices.

  • The Mixer is apparatus that help precipitation or an inhomogeneous distribution of various phases to be mixed and that user makes necessary material mixing one or the other. Mainly the mixer which is used from chemical and food industry is very important system in engineering that mixes the material. The inside flow of the mixer under the actual states which put a basis in flow of the fluid is formed rotation of the impeller. The inside flow of impeller will be caused by various reasons change with shape of impeller, number of rotation, mixing material and flow pattern of free surface etc. Also mixer study depended in single-phase flow and experimental research. So the numerical analysis of flow mixing solid-fluid particle is simulated. It is become known, that the case where agitator inside working fluid includes the solid particle the sinkage reverse which the solid particle has decreases an agitation efficiency. From the research which it sees the hazard solid which examines the effect where the change of the sinkage territory which it follows agitation number of revolution and diameter of the particle goes mad to an agitator inside flow distribution - numerical analysis the inside flow distribution of liquid state with Eulerian Two-Phase Method.

  • An analog phase shifter is designed at the operating frequency 10GHz that is coupled with a hybrid ring and the network connecting an inductor series with a varactor to extend a continuous chage in the phase of the reflected output wave to be produced from a variation in the terminated varactor reactance as a variation in the reverse bias voltage. It is manufactured in a microstripline in consideration of an effect of the dispersion characteristics and discontinuities. As a resuls of an experiment, a change in the phase is achieved over 180 degree from $52.34^{\circ}$ degrees to $235.01^{\circ}$degrees, the transmission loss is -3.6~-14.3dB, and the return loss is -16~-8dB(1.37

  • When bioethanol and water are mixed at a proper ratio, phase separation can occur because of the immiscibility of biobutanol with water. Phase separation in bioethanol blends fuels is a major problem for gasoline vehicle users due to effect of octane number and component corrosion. Thus, in this study, the phase separation of bioethanol was examined effect of bioethanol blends (E3 (3 vo.% bioethanol in gasoline), E5 and E10) in presence of water. The effect were evaluated behavior with phase separation test, simulation test of fuel tank in gas station according to water addition volume and it was investigated change of water content, bioethanol content and octane number for gasoline phase in bioethanol blends (E3, E5 and E10) every 1 week after water addition. The E3 occurred phase separation more easily than the E5 and E10 in small water contents because solubility of water on ethanol content difference in gasoline-ethanol. It was kept a initial level of water content, bioethanol content, and octane number by repeated sample replacing in simulation test of fuel tank.
