Objective: The purpose of the study was to analyze the difference in the importance and performance of the educational content of the community pharmacy practice and find the factors that influence it. Methods: A 5-point Likert scale questionnaire asked about the importance and performance of the pharmacy practice education items to community pharmacy preceptors, current students, and professors. Data were analyzed using Microsoft office 365 Excel and IBM SPSS 21.0. Results: A total of 117 people participated. The averages of importance and performance were 4.34±0.34 and 3.71±0.45, respectively. Except for the computational entry of prescriptions and medication history, the average score for the importance of all educational items was statistically significantly higher than the one for performance. Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) identified over-the-counter medication counseling, over-the-counter drug selection consultation, pharmacy management, adverse drug reaction monitoring, and understanding and implementation of drug use evaluation as the items that needed focused effort. Borich's needs were highest in the adverse drug reaction monitoring. Conclusions: Overall, high importance and low performance indicate a need for improvement in community pharmacy practice education. Since the demand for education was high in over-the-counter medication counseling, adverse drug reaction monitoring, and OTC drug selection consultation, various supports are urgently needed to strengthen pharmacy practice education in this area in the future.
Background: It was to describe collaborative educational efforts under Coronavirus disease 2019 period to advocate pharmacy-based immunization delivery and meet unmet needs of partnership institution using virtual learning platforms. Methods: A partnership was established among three pharmacy schools from two countries. The class content included the history of pharmacy immunization, pharmacists' roles and contribution to public health of the USA. The class also reviewed the value of pharmacists as frontline healthcare workers to foster student insights and the scope of pharmacy. The virtual class featured an interactive video simulation and small breakroom discussion besides a lecture. Results: Participants indicated that public accessibility to pharmacy and six-year education system in South Korea as advantages. However, legislative restrictions, pharmacist burden, and interprofessional disagreements were expressed as barriers to introduce the pharmacist immunization. Conclusion: A virtual learning platform was used to advocate for pharmacy-based immunization and fulfilled an unmet educational gap at a partnership institution.
High Caffeinated Energy Drink (HCED) consumption among adolescents has been exponentially increasing. The intake of HCED may cause various side effects. However, studies regarding intake of HCED in adolescents have been rarely implemented in Korea. The purpose of this study was to investigate HCED consumption patterns among adolescents and prevalence of adverse effects from HCED consumption and to compare them between middle and high school students. The self-reported questionnaire with 31 questions was used to evaluate HCED consumption patterns and adverse effects. Among 792 students, 455 who had drunken HCED were included in the analysis. Nine (4.0%) Middle School Students (MSSs) and 11 (4.8%) High School Students (HSSs) responded that they did not know HCED, and 188 (83.6%) MSSs and 221 (96.1%) HSSs had heard that HCED contains high amount of caffeine. Seventy-four (36.8%) MSSs drank their first HCEDs from curiosity and 63 (31.3%) MSSs to stay awake while studying. However, 134 (61.2%) HSSs consumed their first HCEDs to keep awake while studying, and 57 (26.0%) HSSs from curiosity. Twenty-eight (12.5%) MSSs and 46 (20.3%) HSSs had increase in heart rate, 52 (23.2%) MSSs and 83 (36.4%) HSSs insomnia, and 8 (3.6%) MSSs and 18 (7.9%) HSSs hand and facial tremor. As shown in this study, HCED consumption among adolescents in Korea was high. Thus, Korean government should continuously focus its efforts to educate not only children and adolescents but also their parents for HCEDs in order to increase parents' awareness of HCEDs and conduct education regarding HCED intake at home above all.
The goal of this clerkship is to expose the student to basic skills needed fir a patient oriented pharmacist to assume an existing clinical role and participate in therapeutic decision making processes. As the pharmacy profession has moved from the traditional product orientation to a patient orientation, curricula within the college of pharmacy have evolved to include more experiential coursework to lister this patient orientation. This change has been supported by the philosophy of pharmaceutical care which encourages pharmacists to assume a patient advocacy role in optimizing a patient's drug therapy while minimizing the adverse effects of the medication. The role of experiential education, and especially the clerkship experience will be to hasten and enhance the development of this concept and philosophy for pharmacy students.
Objective: This study aims to assess the following issues - acquisition level in terms of the information on frequently used drugs of youth, access paths for the information, actual status of the use of drugs frequently used by youth, types of the used drugs, drug abuse among youth, and the consequent drawbacks. This study also takes aims at suggestion of correct role of pharmacists in consideration of drug abuse among youth. Methods: During the period from August 1, 2011 to October 31, 2012, a research design and a question development have been conducted. To the students of the schools that were randomly selected (elementary school's N=99, middle school's N=106, high school's N=115 and university's N=115), it was asked to complete given questionnaire from August 1, 2012 to August 31, 2012. During the period from September 1, 2012 to October 30, 2012, the questionnaires were collected back and the analysis and evaluation of them were carried out. Results: Drugs known to the respondents were a total of 115 different medicines and most of the drugs belonged to over-the-counter drugs. The most well known drug was pain reliever and the second most familiar drug was wound ointment. Most of the respondents found the drugs through direct use and advertisement. In everyday life, more than half of the respondents were using over-the-counter drugs as well as health supplements. The most commonly used drug was analgesic drug. It was showed that the respondents also frequently used the drugs for improving their grades and appearances. It was shown that among the cases of drug use, there were also the cases of misuse and abuse of drugs for the respondents or people around them. Reliability of pharmacists was shown to be high and many students were also satisfied with the pharmacists' guidance for medication. Conclusion: Currently many students are using different kinds of drug in daily life, and there is a possibility that the risk of misuse and abuse of drugs will be increased. Those age groups can easily engage in bad habit of drug use. Thus, promotion on accurate drug information has to be strengthened, and pharmacists are required to conduct correct guidance for drug user's medication in terms of use amount, usage, interactions among different drugs, and potential risks.

Background: There exist some different perceptions on clinical pharmacy between Korean and western societies. Since the pharmacists who received the 6-year pharmacy education join the pharmacy profession soon, it appears imperative to know whether the western-style clinical pharmacy is adaptable to Korean-style pharmacy education and profession. Methods: The authors surveyed 54 professors in the membership directory of the Korean College of Clinical Pharmacy (KCCP) on their perceptions on clinical pharmacy and clinical pharmacists, and their willingness for adapting clinical pharmaceutical care (CPC) and clinical pharmaceutical sciences (CPS) into clinical pharmacy education. The survey consists of 47 questions including dichotomized and Likert scale questionnaires in the areas of respondent demographics, clinical pharmacy, clinical pharmacists, CPC and CPS. Results: Of the 54 KCCP members surveyed, 29 completed the questionnaires in full and one in part. It appears that most KCCP members acknowledge the existence and importance of the two major fields of clinical pharmacy, CPC and CPS. Twenty-eight (96.6%) and seventeen members (68.0%) agreed to introduce CPC and CPS into the clinical pharmacy education in Korea, respectively. Seventeen (63.0%) answered CPC would be successfully adapted in Korea. Twenty (74.1%) agreed that it is desirable for clinical pharmacists to perform CPC and CPS simultaneously. Conclusion: Based on this survey, the authors suggest that pharmacy schools provide their students with the education opportunities on CPC to nurture clinical pharmacists through a master's program and CPS to foster clinical pharmaceutical scientists through a Ph.D. program.
Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of mental health (MH) symptoms and associated factors among medical students who were engaged in combating the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic in 4 provinces/cities of Vietnam. Methods: A cross-sectional study with 580 participants was conducted at a medical university in Northern Vietnam. MH was assessed using the 21-item Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale, which was previously standardized in Vietnam. Data were collected through a structured self-administered questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression was employed to examine the association between MH symptoms and relevant factors. Results: Out of a total of 2703 medical students, 21.5% responded to the questionnaire. Among the 580 respondents, the prevalence rates of depression, anxiety, and stress were 43.3%, 44.0%, and 24.7%, respectively. Factors significantly associated with self-reported depression included being female and having a COVID-19 infection. Similarly, being female and having a COVID-19 infection were significantly associated with self-reported anxiety. Factors associated with self-reported stress included being female, having a personal or family history of MH symptoms, working more than 8 hr/day, and having a COVID-19 infection. Conclusions: COVID-19 has adversely impacted the MH of medical students. Our findings are valuable in their potential to motivate universities, MH professionals, and authorities to offer mental healthcare services to this group. Furthermore, there is a pressing need for training courses designed to equip future healthcare workers with the skills to manage crises effectively.

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality amongst the gynecological cancers worldwide, especially in developing countries. There are few to no initial symptoms and signs. This study was conducted to assess the awareness level of young Pakistani women about cervical cancer and to educate them about this deadly disease. A detailed questionnaire regarding demographic data and information about cervical cancer was distributed in different cities of Punjab. A total of 873 women took part in this survey and 70.1 percent were totally unaware of this cancer. Only 8.5% of the whole surveyed population knew accurately about cancer of cervix, 7% of the surveyed respondents correctly specified the human papilloma virus as the causative agent. Only 5.2% respondents were able to identify the Pap smear test as a diagnostic measure. Out of all the surveyed population only 4.3% of individuals were found to be vaccinated against this disease and the majority was found from the medical profession. Medical professionals, students, working women, housewives and uneducated individuals took active part in this survey. This study demonstrates a low level of awareness among Pakistani women and a need for an active campaign by media and government to increase understanding as well as introducing measures for improved prevention and treatment of cervical cancer.
Objective: The aim for this article was to evaluate and to clarify the current opinions of the registered pharmacists concerning their recognition and adoption rates about introducing the preceptorship into the clinical pharmacy internship and clerkship. Methods: A 25-question-questionnaire was developed and pilot tested. For 40 days of survey by both on-line and on site, 90 over 240 (37.5%) registered pharmacists responded and the data were analyzed with comparison to the groups working in community and hospital pharmacies. Results: The overall answers were affirmative and the respondents were very interested in the application of the clinical preceptorship to the pharmacy educational and to their clinical settings. Moreover, the qualification level and the implementation methods were proposed in detail. Conclusion: Although ninety pharmacists showed their views differently, most of the respondents regarded the preceptorship as an adequate training system for the pharmacy students as well as junior pharmacists at the time of initiation of the new 6-year pharmacy education system in Korea.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors associated with quality of life of nursing students during clinical practice. Methods: A convenience sample of 332 nursing students completed the questionnaire from July to September, 2013. A self-reported questionnaire was used to obtain data on quality of life, stress related to clinical practice, and health promotion behavior. Data was analyzed with independent t-test, one way ANOVA and Scheff${\acute{e}}$'s post hoc test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression by using SPSS version 20.0. Results: There were significant differences in quality of life scores by age, economic status, interpersonal relationships, daytime somnolence, number of visits in pharmacy and/or healthcare center, health status, and stress management. Quality of life had positive correlation with health promotion behavior but had negative correlation with the level of stress related to clinical practice. Models including these variables explained 34.3% (F=9.77, p<.001) of the variance for quality of life. Age, economic status, sleep amount, numbers of pharmacy/hospital visits, health status, stress during clinical practice, and health promotion behavior were significantly associated with quality of life in nursing students. Conclusion: There is a need to develop and implement new strategies that will result in improvement in nursing students' quality of life.
