A Study on the Development of Pets Wear Design (애견의상 디자인 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Nowadays, the family system has changed from a large extended family group to a more nuclear family and the number of people who live by themselves has been increasing. Moreover, Korea is becoming an aged society, and pets are becoming more important as leave the family home. So a lot of people in Korea now consider pets as their family members due largely to the drastic change of their life style. Therefore, the rate of importing commodities for pets like cats and dogs has been increasing dramatically. In this study, in response to the growing interest in the pet industry, I have studied recent trends and types in the pets wear markets which are still in the first stage of development in Korea. In order to enhance the possibility of mass producing pets ready-made clothes for making the unit cost lower, firstly, I presented a new basic design and pattern of pets wear made up of general textile. After that, following basic purpose of pet wear, I classified decorative clothes into party wear, everyday wear and street wear and then I developed the pattern and made a pair of works for each item totaling 6 in all. I hope that the number of Korean companies which can enhance their reputation through by marketing these products in Korean as well as all around the world will increase. I believe this will be possible because by taking advantage of the easy pattern developed in this thesis. They will be able to mass produce their own high quality pets wear brand.

The Relationship Between Attitude Toward Pets and Elementary School Students' Empathy Ability (애완동물에 대한 태도와 초등학생의 공감능력과의 관계)

  • This study examined the relationship between the attitudes toward pets and elementary school students' empathy ability, and analysed the difference in the attitude toward pets and the level of elementary school students' empathy depending on gender, school year and rearing period. To carry out this study, data were collected by giving a test on the attitudes toward pets and a test in empathy ability to 220 elementary school students in Daejeon Metropolitan City, who had a pet rearing experience in the past. With regard to the data collected, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, t-test and analysis of variance were carried out using SPSS win23. As a result of the analysis, the following facts were revealed. First, the attitudes and the degree of empathy ability for pets showed relevance. Second, affection for pets, interaction, and the joy of having pets were closely related to the empathy ability. Third, there was a significant difference in the attitude toward pets depending on gender and rearing period. Finally, there was a significant difference in empathy ability depending on the gender and rearing period. However, there was no significant difference depending on the school year.

A Study on the Planning Elements for Apartment Residents Living with Companion Animals (애완동물과의 공생을 고려한 공동주택 계획요소 연구)

  • The purpose of this study were to examine actual conditions of apartment residents living with their companion animals and to identify their residential stress and needs of planning elements under those conditions. Questionnaire survey was adopted in this study, and 100 cases were used for data analysis. The subjects for this study were limited to the residents breeding pets in their apartments. The results of this study are as follows: Most of the residents share their living spaces with pets together like their family without spatial restrictions. They indicated problems related to breeding pets in their residence such as walking the dog, cleaning home, leaving pets alone, noise and unpleasant smell. However, they didn't seem to be stressed a lot for their living environments. In terms of residential planning elements, floor plans for effective natural ventilation, balcony with sufficient sunlight, sound proof system, easy-maintenance interior material, unlash area, rubbish bin, mechanical ventilation and central vacuum system and safe electric outlet were highly indicated.

Text-Mining Analysis on the Interaction between the American Consumers Aged over 60 and Companion Pets Robots: Focused on Amazon Reviews for Joy For All Companion Pets (텍스트 마이닝을 활용한 미국 노년 소비자와 애완용 로봇 간 상호작용에 대한 분석: Joy For All Companion Pets에 대한 아마존 리뷰를 중심으로)

  • This study explores consumers' responses to socially assistive robotics by using text-mining method focusing on Companion Pets from Hasbro as it gives emotional support. We conducted text frequency analysis, LDA analysis using R programming. The key findings are 1)the most frequently used words the mimicry of living pets and the appearance of companion pets, 2)the five topics were derived from the LDA analysis and classified keywords in each topic split between positive and negative, 3)user, product, environment affect the interaction between consumer and companion pets, 4)consumers who have difficulty in cognition and physical conditions use companion pets to replace living pets. This study provides an understanding of consumer responses in companion pets and gives practical implications that may improve the efficacy of usage for consumers and understand the companion robot, which provides emotional support in COVID-19.

  • Recently, as the number of households raising pets increases due to the increase of single households, there is a need for a system for monitoring the status or behavior of pets. There are regional limitations in the monitoring of pets using domestic CCTVs, which requires a large number of CCTVs or restricts the behavior of pets. In this paper, we propose a mobile system for detecting and tracking cats using deep learning to solve the regional limitations of pet monitoring. We use YOLO (You Look Only Once), an object detection neural network model, to learn the characteristics of pets and apply them to Raspberry Pi to track objects detected in an image. We have designed a mobile monitoring system that connects Raspberry Pi and a laptop via wireless LAN and can check the movement and condition of cats in real time.

  • The pet industry is also developing and growing in various ways as the number of companions is steadily increasing around the world and social awareness of pets has changed to members of the "family." The pet tech market, which can check health changes early by utilizing IOT technology, is also drawing attention as pets often cannot be expressed even if they have health problems. Based on this problem recognition, this study aims to promote the cold chain service market by developing important animal sample transport services in the pet healthcare market and to develop solutions that satisfy all stakeholders such as pets, pets, and animal hospitals. It was developed to apply sustainability related to society and culture as well as economic and environmental values in the research process.

Two Children with Nontyphoidal Salmonellosis Assumed by Pets (애완동물을 통해 전파된 것으로 의심되는 비장티푸스성 살모넬라 균혈증 2례)

  • Nontyphoidal Salmonella are gram negative bacilli organism, which may induce systemic infection such as febrile enteritis, bacteremia, and osteomyelitis. Main route of infection is known as food but also possible through reptile, amphibian, and fish raised as pets in the house. There is no known cases report of Salmonella infection through pets in Korea and also rare in the overseas. We report 2 patients who visited Severance children's hospital with chief complaint of fever and diagnosed as nontyphoidal salmonellosis. Each case had a history of raising turtle or tropical fish with possibility of Salmonella infection through these pets. Increasing incidence of raising pet reptile and fish lately, contact precaution and proper prevention and control of Salmonella infection of these pets especially in children under 5 years old are necessary due to higher risk of serious complications of salmonellosis.

Forensic analysis of toxic substances in fatalities with suspected companion animal cruelty (반려동물 학대 의심 폐사축에 대한 중독물질검사 연구)

  • The increasing prevalence of toxic substance-exposure in pets in South Korea endangers the health and safety of numerous companion animals, and has become a cause for concern. Notably, the annual incidence of forensic analysis in pets has increased by more than 150% in South Korea, mainly in populous regions such as Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi. In response to this growing issue, veterinary forensic examinations were conducted on 549 dogs and cats from 2019 to 2022. This study revealed the presence of various toxic substances, including pesticides, insecticides, and drugs such as analgesics, anesthetics, antidepressants, and muscle relaxants, in pets. Among the 38 different toxins identified in pets, coumatetralyl, methomyl, terbufos, and buprofezin were the most frequently detected. In this study, toxic substances for pets were identified based on the "toxic agent list for humans," developed by the National Forensic Services, because no list of toxic agents for animals currently exists and data regarding potentially toxic substances for dogs and cats is limited. This is one of the limitations of this study, and necessitates the establishment of a toxic agent list for animals. Continued monitoring and research is also recommended to reveal the incidence, causes, and solutions of toxicity in animals.

1D-CNN-LSTM Hybrid-Model-Based Pet Behavior Recognition through Wearable Sensor Data Augmentation

  • The number of healthcare products available for pets has increased in recent times, which has prompted active research into wearable devices for pets. However, the data collected through such devices are limited by outliers and missing values owing to the anomalous and irregular characteristics of pets. Hence, we propose pet behavior recognition based on a hybrid one-dimensional convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short- term memory (LSTM) model using pet wearable devices. An Arduino-based pet wearable device was first fabricated to collect data for behavior recognition, where gyroscope and accelerometer values were collected using the device. Then, data augmentation was performed after replacing any missing values and outliers via preprocessing. At this time, the behaviors were classified into five types. To prevent bias from specific actions in the data augmentation, the number of datasets was compared and balanced, and CNN-LSTM-based deep learning was performed. The five subdivided behaviors and overall performance were then evaluated, and the overall accuracy of behavior recognition was found to be about 88.76%.

  • Along with the recent increase in national income, social phenomena such as aging due to a decrease in population and an increase in single households are observed. There are also an increasing number of households raising pets in proportion to aging households and the increase in the number of single households, most of which use animal companions to overcome loneliness and boost domestic vitality. As more and more people consider pets as family members, the size of the domestic pet market is also growing. The growing number of pets in older households and single households is not properly managed by care such as food meals and exercise management for pets. It is necessary to research and develop robots that can monitor animal companions remotely, feed a certain amount of food at regular intervals, and manage their health through exercise. Among pet companions, dog selection is the highest. Therefore, this study identified robot research on driving methods, examples of existing pet care systems, and researched pet care robots using obstacle avoidance algorithms. In order to use the snack pay behavior and obstacle avoidance algorithm of the pet animals by applying IoT and we .oPI technology, it is able to use ultrasonic sensors on the front and has four infrared sensors on the back. However, this study does not reflect the characteristics of other pet animals as a study on pet care robots, and it requires continuous observation and testing.
