  • Four hundred and thirty-five Chinese smokers who had attended the first smoking cessation clinic and received stage-matched individualized cessation counseling in Hong Kong during the period of August 2000 to January 2002 were successfully followed-up between February and August 2008. Some 38% of the participants (165/495) had stopped smoking during the 12-month follow-up after treatment. Participants with higher conscientiousness score (OR = 1.65, 95% CI: 1.09 - 2.48) and lower openness to experience score (OR = 0.64, 95% CI: 0.45 - 0.92) showed a greater likelihood of quitting smoking after controlling the effect of daily cigarettes smoked and stage of readiness at baseline. The study suggests an important role of conscientiousness and openness to experience on long-term quitting behaviors following treatment, and provides useful information for the development of matched intervention for smoking cessation among Chinese smokers.

Aggression refers to aggressive or hostile behavior, and is manifested in suicide or an attack against others. Aggression in modern society is more accidental, reckless, and aimless than before. As more patients visit hospitals due to the serious problem of aggression control, we need to address the nature of this growing aggression. The authors analyzed sources and the nature of aggression, based on the movie 'American Psycho.' The main character of the movie, Patrick, is similar to many people today, with traits such as egotistical thinking, lack of empathy, demand for attention and admiration, and exploited and superficial relationships. Patrick's aggression is in reaction to narcissistic injury. Through this, one can think of pathological narcissism, behind growing aggression in modern society. There are a number of social and environmental factors, attributable to increasing narcissism in modern society. Among them, change in parenting practices, and parent-child relationships, is likely to have affected increase in narcissism in terms of personality development. In conclusion, when treating patients exhibiting aggression in psychotherapy, it is critical to fully consider the possibility of pathological narcissism and its use in analysis.

  • In the marine environment, many clutters have similar features with the marine targets due to the diverse changes of the air temperature, water temperature, various weather and seasons. Also, the clutters in the ground environment have similar features due to the same reason. In this paper, we proposed a robust Hybrid Machine Character (HMC) method to classify the targets from the clutters in the infrared images for the various environments. The proposed HMC method adopts human's multiple personality utilization and the CNN ensemble method to classify the targets in the ground and marine environments. This method uses an advantage of the each environmental training model. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method has better success rate to classify the targets and clutters than previously proposed CNN classification method.
