Methods for Measuring Exposure to Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS)

  • An important and somewhat under-emphasized issue in assessing the risk potentially associated with exposure to ETS is the reliability and objectivity of the methods used to measure the actual level of exposure. Objectivity of the science is crucial in this context since this topic tends to elicit strong social, emotional and political responses among the general public and the scientific community alike. This mini-review compares the strengths and limitations of various methods used in determining ETS exposure in scientific investigations. Methods reviewed include: questionnaire, area monitoring, bio-monitoring, and personal monitoring. In particular, results of several recent studies (conducted in the United States, Europe, and the Far East) using personal monitors in combination with questionnaire and bio-monitoring, which contribute to a more reliable, objective and realistic estimates of a person's actual exposure to 575, are discussed.

  • Recently, personal health monitoring system using intelligent biosensors and equipments has been realized. This system can be adopted for soldier's biosignal monitoring system. In this paper, we propose a soldier biosignal monitoring system using personal biosensors, such as the ECG sensors and accelerometer.

  • Mobile devices like iphone, ipad, kindle, and PDA are used as everyday tool. In the mobile environment, smart phones and other mobile units are also used as a tool for protection or infringement of personal information. Therefore, smart monitoring technology is required to protect personal information and privacy. On the other hand, with smart phones and the mobile environment, diverse application technologies are realized on hardware and software platforms. Therefore, this paper designs the network structure that forms privacy trust zone, and based on this, deals with the monitoring and monitoring prevention system with a focus on CCTV, through which this paper proposes a system that provides privacy trust zone information and its utilization which is capable of smart monitoring.

  • As the spread of LBS(Location Based Service), MDT(Mobile Data Terminal) and PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) services using mobile terminals, various systems are under development to to manage the performance of these services. This paper describes a mobile performance management system which is implemented to test the performance of mobility between the user and the terminal or between the terminal and the mobile server automatically in the mobile-user field. The system has four modules: scenario management module, MDT monitoring, LBS monitoring, and PDA monitoring. The scenario management module manages the performance by monitoring all modules. The LBS monitoring module monitors LBS call attempt stage, call connecting stage, and LBS test for established connection. Thus, the LBS monitoring module manages the performance for every stage of the call. The MDT monitoring module monitors the performance according to the input command and the PDA monitoring module monitors according to the input from the set up and the execution menu.

  • Numerous private corporations and public institutions are collecting personal information through the diverse methods for the purpose of sales, promotion and civil services, and using personal information for the profits of the organizations and services. However, due to immaturity of the technical, managerial measures and internal control for the collected personal information, the misuse, abuse and the leaks of personal information are emerged as major social issues, and the government also is promoting implementation of the act on the privacy protection by recognizing the importance of the personal information protection. This research describes on the measures to detect the anomaly by analyzing personal information treatment patterns managed by the organizations, and on the measures to coup with the leaks, misuse, and abuse of personal information. Particularly, this research is intended to suggest privacy leakage monitoring system design, which can be managed by making the elements related to personal information leaks to numeric core risk indexes to be measured objectively.

  • Recently, technology using a PC and the personal server efficiently has been highlighted in accordance with the historical background. Solutions for large enterprises and public institutions and PC and personal server management are being commercialized for fee. Paying a fee for PC and personal server management being a burden and commercialized solutions include a function that does not require. In this paper, proposed the PC and personal server management system include monitoring that cpu, hdd, memory, respond speed. It expects to extend the PC and service life is available without charge through the free distribution of the burden. The Development program and application is available for free from the android market and on-line. Server agent program of the proposed system operates based on a single-threaded system. That is low load and the low functional burden on the server.

  • Internet of things (IoT) is revolutionizing in the patient-Centered medical monitoring and management by authorizing the Smartphone application and data analysis with medical centers. The network connectivity is basic requirement to collect the observed human beings' health information from Smartphone to monitor the health from IoT medical devices in personal healthcare. The IoT environment built in Smartphone is very effective and does not demand infrastructure. This paper presents the smart phone deployed personal IoT architecture for Non-Invasive ECG Capturing. The adaptable IoT medical device cum Gateway is used for personal healthcare with big data storage on cloud configuration. In this approach, the Smartphone camera based imaging technique used to extract the personal ECG waveform and forward it to the cloud based big data storage connectivity using IoT architecture. Elaborated algorithm allows for efficient ECG registration directly from face image captured from Smartphone or Tablet camera. The profound technique may have an exceptional value in monitoring personal healthcare after adequate enhancements are introduced.

  • Digital fetal monitoring system based on the personal computer combined with the digital signal processing (DSP) board was implemented. The DSP board acquires and digitally processes ultra- sound fetal Doppler signal for digital signal conditioning, rectification, low -pass filtering, autocorrealtion function calculation and its peak detection. The personal computer interfaced with the DSP board is in charge of graphic display, hardcopy, data transmission and on -line analysis of fetal heart rate change including on - line warning system, base -line estmation, acceleration, deceleration and variability. It is one of the most suitable situation to apply the DSP chip for siganl conditioning, digital filtering of ultrasound fetal Dopier signal and fetal heart rate estimation using autocorrelation technique .
