  • This paper deals with the performance analysis of 3-dimensional array antenna by DOA estimation and beamforming in GPS receiver for performance improvement by interference elimination. The array antenna in GPS receiver can improve the system performance by estimating DOA of arriving signal direction, making the main beam for desired direction and elimate the jammer signal by nulling while keeping the GPS signal direction by spatial filtering. In this paper, we propose five types of 3-dimensional array antenna and analyze the estimation error via MUSIC algorithm which is used for the estimation of DOA of arrived signal and beamforming performance. In analyzing DOA performance, we measure DOA estimation error, while in analyzing beamformig performance, we measure BER. In beamforming performance analyzing, we use various jammer power and the existence of GPS signal and angle spread. By performing through the computer simulation, Curved (B) 7-element antenna in proposed 3-dimensional array antenna exhibits the superior performance in the DOA estimation, estimation error, BER characteristic and angle spread compared to the rest four array antenna types.

  • Biofouling represents an important problem in the shipping industry since it causes the increase in surface roughness. The most of ships in the current world fleet do not have good coating condition which represents an important problem due to strict rules regarding ship energy efficiency. Therefore, the importance of the control and management of the hull and propeller fouling is highlighted by the International Maritime Organization and the maintenance schedule optimization became valuable energy saving measure. For adequate implementation of this measure, the accurate prediction of the effects of biofouling on the hydrodynamic characteristics is required. Although computational fluid dynamics approach, based on the modified wall function approach, has imposed itself as one of the most promising tools for this prediction, it requires significant computational time. However, during the maintenance schedule optimization, it is important to rapidly predict the effect of biofouling on the ship hydrodynamic performance. In this paper, the effect of biofilm on the ship hydrodynamic performance is studied using the proposed performance prediction method for three merchant ships. The applicability of this method in the assessment of the effect of biofilm on the ship hydrodynamic performance is demonstrated by comparison of the obtained results using the proposed performance prediction method and computational fluid dynamics approach. The comparison has shown that the highest relative deviation is lower than 4.2% for all propulsion characteristics, lower than 1.5% for propeller rotation rate and lower than 5.2% for delivered power. Thus, a practical tool for the estimation of the effect of biofouling with lower fouling severity on the ship hydrodynamic performance is developed.

  • In this paper, a method for designing an optimal weight function for the weighted cepstral distance measure is proposed. A conventional weight function or cepstral lifter is obtained eperimentally depending on the spectral components to be emphasized. The proposed method minimizes the error between word reference patterns and the traning data. To compare the proposed optimal weight function with conventional function, speech recognition systems based on Dpynamic Time Warping and Hidden Markov Models were constructed to conduct speaker independent isolated word necogination eperiment. Results show that the proposed method gives better performance than conventional weight functions.

  • The fast changes of business environment make the enterprise filled with many problems which have to be solved. Productivity is a measure of the organizational performance, especially in manufacturing activities. The purpose of this paper is to measure the value-added productivity of the firms, to identify the characteristics and the relationship between key variables which affect the value-added productivity and also to study the alternative policies of productivity improvement elements which increase productivity effectiveness.

  • The number of matched peaks (NMP) is estimated as the spectral similarity measure in tandem mass spectral library searches of small molecules. In the high resolution mode, NMP provides the same reliable identification as in the case of a common dot-product function. Corresponding true positive rates are ($94{\pm}3$) % and ($96{\pm}3$) %, respectively.

  • In this research, we seek the beginning of the speech and detect the stationary speech region using lip information. Performing running average of the estimated speech signal in the stationary region, we reduce the effect of musical noise which is inherent to the conventional MlMSE (Minimum Mean Square Error) speech enhancement algorithm. In addition to it, SFM (Spectral Flatness Measure) is incorporated to reduce the speech signal estimation error due to speaking habit and some lacking lip information. The proposed algorithm with Wiener filtering shows the superior performance to the conventional methods according to MOS (Mean Opinion Score) test.

  • The purpose of this study is developing scheduling logic and program for machining scheduling of automobile part production line with unbalanced processing time. Three rules are developed to minimize slack and effect on other job. Fourth rule is suggested which considered weighted sum of three factors. schedule is generated totally 1, 000 times and then optimal weight parameter is selected. The program is developed to schedule situation to compare with the performance measure, total finish time of machine and total tardiness of part. As a result, the rule which considered weighted sum of three factors is effective for both measure.

  • Quantitative analysis of dynamic false contours on PDP is essential to evaluate the performance of algorithms for false contour reduction. It also serves as an optimization criterion for selecting the subfield pattern. In this paper, a color difference in uniform color space is defined as a new measure for dynamic false contours. Unlike the measures in previous works, it accounts for the channel dependencies among the RGB color channels.

  • Let P be a probability measure on the real line with Lebesque-density f. The usual estimator of the distribution function (≡df) of P for the sample $\chi$$_1$,…, $\chi$$\_$n/ is the empirical df: F$\_$n/(t)=(equation omitted). But this estimator does not take into account the smoothness of F, that is, the existence of a density f. Therefore, one should expect that an estimator which is better adapted to this situation beats the empirical df with respect to a reasonable measure of performance.(omitted)

  • Flexibility has become a key objectives in the design of manufacturing systems and a critical measure of total manufacturing performance. The need for flexibility is increasing due to some environmental change such as changing technical characteristics of the products and the changing nature of market demands. Most importantly, flexibility embodies competitive value for a manufacturer. Although the importance of flexibility has stressed in the various research, very few attempts have been made to synthesize the literature dealing with definitions and measure of flexibility. It is this issue that have motivated us to search for the definition and classification of flexibility.
