Fuel failure due to debris is a major cause of failure in pressurized water reactors. Fuel vendors have developed various filtering devices to reduce debris-induced failure and have evaluated filtering performance with their own test facilities and methods. Because of the different test facilities and methods, it is difficult to compare filtering performances objectively. This study presents an improved filtering test and an efficiency calculation method to fairly compare fuel-filtering efficiency regardless of the vendor's filtering features. To enhance the reliability of our evaluation, we established requirements for the test method and had a facility constructed according to the requirements. This article describes the debris specimens, the amount of debris, and the replicates for the proposed test method. A calculation method of comprehensive debris-filtering efficiency using a weighted mean is proposed. The test method was verified by repeated tests, and the tests were carried out using the PLUS7 and 17ACE7 test fuels to calculate the comprehensive debris-filtering efficiencies. The evaluation results revealed that the filtering performance of PLUS7 is better than that of 17ACE7. The proposed method can be used on any kind of debris-filtering devices and is appropriate for use as a standard.
Purpose: Many firms have implemented Six Sigma in order to improve employee's creativity and performance. However, few researchers have studied the effect of Six Sigma on performance through creativity process. This study aims to investigate the impact of Six Sigma, exploitation, and exploration on performance. Methods: Based on literature review, this paper develops hypotheses and tests them by employing a structural equations model. Using survey data of 209 Six Sigma experts who have conducted Six Sigma projects from different companies, this study empirically shows that the activities for Six Sigma enhance exploitation, exploration, and performance. Results: Six Sigma affects exploration and exploitation, each of which in turn enhances performance. It is noted that Six Sigma has an indirect influence on performance through exploitation and exploration. Conclusion: Apart from Parast(2011) who insists that Six Sigma is effective in improving exploitation rather than exploration, this study suggest that Six Sigma can affect both in order to enhance corporate performance.

the covariance process of two martingales provides a useful tool to capture the dependence structure for paired censored data. in this paper it is applied to modify the variances of weighted logrank tests in order to take account of dependence between paired subjects. In the process of modification a 'variance correction term' is introduced. Some variance estimators based on separate samples are considered together. Performance of the estimators are compared through simulation studies. Several independence tests for bivariate sruvival date are also proposed which are naturally reduced from the weighted logrank tests accomodating dependence structure. Simulation studies are carried out to compare the independence tests. Both the weighted logrank tests and the independence tests are illustrated by an example.
Recently, surface-treatment agent was developed to restore performance of the deteriorated concrete and inhibiting corrosion of the reinforcing-bar. The performance of surface-treatment agent was verified and this agent has been broadly in America and European countries. However, this type agent has not been used broadly in Korea because performance of the agent isn't verify by a proper test method yet. In this study, we suggested our own test procedures and methods through extensive laboratory tests to verify the performance of concrete after applying the surface-treatment agent.
Prior to real fire test, theoretical of the fire resistant performance of the structural ele-ments is often less time consuming and less costly to calculate it, than to determine the perform-ance experimentally. This study is aimed at introduction of estimating methods of the fire resistant performance of the steel structural elements not by the actual fire tests but by the mathematical models.
PURPOSES : This paper focuses on strength development according to the mix design with cement type and mineral admixture from laboratory and field tests in cool weather. METHODS : Two methods evaluated the mix design of concrete pavement in cool weather. Firstly, laboratory tests including slump, air contents, setting time, strength, maturity, and freezing-thawing test were conducted. Three alternatives were selected based on the tests. Secondly, a field test was conducted and the optimum mix design in cool weather was suggested. RESULTS : It is an evident from the laboratory test that a mix with type III cement showed better performance than the one with type I cement. There was a delay in strength development of a mix with mineral admixture compared to mix design without any mineral admixture. In the field test, type III cement+flyash 20% mix design proved the best performance. CONCLUSIONS : For concrete pavement in cool weather, mix design using type III cement could overcome the strength delay due to mineral admixture. Moreover, it is possible to make sure of durability of pavement. Therefore, strength and durability problems due to cool weather would decrease.
Background: The hip muscle plays various roles. Several types of functional performance tests are used for the assessment of patients with various lower extremity injuries. Hip muscle functions are important to test the performance of maintaining the spine, pelvic, and leg during bridging exercise. We designed a novel functional performance test tool, which we named close kinetic chain dynamic lower extremity stability (CKCLE) test to assess hip muscle functions. Objects: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between CKCLE test and hip extensor, external rotator, and abductor strengths. Methods: Twenty-two subjects were recruited in the present study (13 males and 9 females). The hip extensor, external rotator, and abductor muscle strengths were measured using a Smart KEMA strength sensor. When the examiner said "Go", the subject performed the CKCLE test by moving one leg from the floor and touching the opposite knee and then return to the floor while maintaining the bridging position. The subjects attempted as many "touches" as possible in the allotted time (20 seconds) during the maximal tests. The correlation between the hip muscle (extensor, external rotator, and abductor) strength of the supporting leg and the number of CKCLE tests performed in 20 seconds was determined using the Pearson correlation. Results: Hip extensor (r = 0.626, p < 0.05), hip external rotator (r = 0.616, p < 0.05), and hip abductor muscle strengths (r = 0.475, p < 0.05) positively correlated with the number of CKCLE tests performed. Conclusion: We designed a CKCLE test and found that performance in the test correlated with hip extensor, external rotator, and abductor muscle strengths. The result suggests that the CKCLE test can be applied as a performance test to assess the functions of the hip extensor, external rotator, and hip abductor muscles.
In evaluating sound performance of building, it is important to carry on tests and evaluations based upon residential sound performances. Korean Standards include test methods on sound performance, but don't include any code on evaluation methods. Therefore, evaluation methods from Japan or ISO have been used for evaluating sound performance in domestic so far. In this study, every regulation from ISO, JIS, ASTM, especially for airborne sound insulation against building and building element, is analyzed in order to apply to establishment of Korean Standards on a sound performance evaluation method in buildings.

In this paper, a notion of data depth is used to propose nonparametric multivariate two sample tests for difference between scale parameters. Data depth can be used to measure the centrality or outlying-ness of the multivariate data point relative to data cloud. A difference in the scale parameters indicates the difference in the depth values of a multivariate data point. By observing this fact on a depth vs depth plot (DD-plot), we propose nonparametric multivariate two sample tests for scale parameters of multivariate distributions. The p-values of these proposed tests are obtained by using Fisher's permutation approach. The power performance of these proposed tests has been reported for few symmetric and skewed multivariate distributions with the existing tests. Illustration with real-life data is also provided.
