Research Needs for TSV-Based 3D IC Architectural Floorplanning

  • This article presents key research needs in three-dimensional integrated circuit (3D IC) architectural floorplanning. Architectural floorplaning is done at a very early stage of 3D IC design process, where the goal is to quickly evaluate architectural designs described in register-transfer level (RTL) in terms of power, performance, and reliability. This evaluation is then fed back to architects for further improvement and/or modifications needed to meet the target constraints. We discuss the details of the following research needs in this article: block-level modeling, through-silicon-via (TSV) insertion and management, and chip/package co-evaluation. The goal of block-level modeling is to obtain physical, power, performance, and reliability information of architectural blocks. We then assemble the blocks into multiple tiers while connecting them using TSVs that are placed in between hard IPs and inside soft IPs. Once a full-stack 3D floorplanning is obtained, we evaluate it so that the feedback is provided back to architects.

  • The seismic performance evaluation and retrofit process are very important for old bridge. If the result is not appropriate, a retrofit process requires. Among the various retrofit methods, this paper selects a seismic isolator and evaluates a seismic performance of bridge. In case of applied seismic isolators to bridge, it proved that seismic capacity is increased by isolators A period of bridge is increased, and a seismic response is decreased. A method of evaluation is capacity spectrum method. By means of a graphical procedure, capacity spectrum estimates a performance level of structure by comparing the capacity of structure with the demand of earthquake ground motion on the structure. The objective of this study is to compare a seismic performance of a non-seismic designed bridge and seismic isolated bridge and to verify a effect of seismic isolator

Verification of Low-Level Wind Shear Prediction System Using Aircraft Meteorological Data Relay (AMDAR) (항공기 기상관측자료(AMDAR)를 이용한 인천국제공항 저고도 급변풍 예측시스템 검증)

  • In order to predict low-level wind shear at Incheon International Airport (RKSI), a Low-Level Wind Shear prediction system (KMAP-LLWS) along the runway take-off and landing route at RKSI was established using Korea Meteorological Administration Post-Processing (KMAP). For the performance evaluation, the case of low-level wind shear cases calculated from Aircraft Meteorological Data Relay (AMDAR) from July 2021 to June 2022 was used. As a result of verification using the performance evaluation index, POD, FAR, CSI, and TSS were 0.5, 0.85, 0.13, and 0.34, respectively, and the prediction performance was improved by POD, CSI, and TSS compared to the Low-Level Wind Shear prediction system (LDPS-LLWS) calculated using the Korea Meteorological Administration's Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System (LDAPS). This means that the use of high-resolution numerical models improves the predictability of wind changes. In addition, to improve the high FAR of KMAP-LLWS, the threshold for low-level wind shear strength was adjusted. As a result, the most effective low-level wind shear threshold at 8.5 knot/100 ft was derived. This study suggests that it is possible to predict and respond to low-level wind shear at RKSI. In addition, it will be possible to predict low-level wind shear at other airports without wind shear observation equipment by applying the KMAP-LLWS.

  • This study derived research model about the influencing factors of the successful performance of smart work. Research model is composed of four perspectives: technology perspective like system quality and usage level of information technology, interaction perspective like innovational climate, institutional perspective like personnel evaluation, and individual perspective like self-control. This study collected 155 survey data from K public company and M global software company. As a result of data analysis, all of four perspectives influenced smart work performance. Technology perspective had the strongest effect on smart work performance, the second was institution perspective, the third was interaction perspective, and the last was individual perspective. In conclusion, smart work is not an IT project. We have to reconsider the thinking that just only the introduction of cutting-edge IT increases business performance. Smart work project should be pursued in harmony with institution and climate in the organizational perspective and self-control in the personal perspective. Also, to maximize business performance in smart work environment, organizations should strengthen the positive factors and overcome the negative factors.

  • Objective evaluation is necessary for the company to know the level of its TQM activity and to improve it. This article proposes self-evaluation model for TQM activity through comparison study of the examination viewpoints for the Deming Prize with criteria of the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award. Proposed self-valuation model consists of three evaluation categories i.e. management system, management performance and survey/audit system. Evaluation on these categories is done for process and performance by using scoring method. This self-evaluation model is useful for checking the progress of TQM and make company recognize the strength and weakness of its TQM activity, namely, positioning analysis.

Evaluation of Environmental Performance of Energy Systems employing Market Allocation Model in Building Sector in Korea (시장분배모형을 이용한 건물부문 에너지 시스템 환경성능평가)

  • In this study, the evaluation of environmental performance of the building energy system of domestic commercial sector was carried out. Based on the theory of linear programming model, we established an evaluation model satisfying object functions and constraint conditions. Employing the model, the evaluation of building energy system was performed under the consideration of cost and environmental constraint conditions. As an evaluation tool, MARKAL (MARKet Allocation) known as a market distribution model was employed. We analyzed scenarios of Case I (Base Scenarios) through Case IX established by the combination of the components of building energy system such as glazing, building skin, core, and heat source system. According to the results of the evaluation, highest contribution on the useful energy demand was obtained from the building energy system combined with solar heat source system, when the total amounts of $CO_2$ exhaust as an environmental constraint condition is assumed to be the level of 1995.

Comparative Performance Evaluation of Binarization Methods for Vehicle License Plate (자동차 번호판 이진화 방법에 대한 성능 비교)

  • License plate recognition is an active research area. but few comparative studies on license plate binarization have been conducted. Many related researchers have experienced similar trial and error for finding an effective binarization method. To reduce this trial and error, this study implemented some binarization methods and quantitatively compared the performance of the methods. The performance evaluation consists of a low level measure and a high level measure, so it can evaluate not only the quality of binarized image itself but also the usefulness of the result. The performance evaluation was separately performed with three groups of images so as to understand the properties of the binarization methods. Experimental results show that the quality of binarization is more dependent on the evenness of illumination than the intensity of illumination. The Otsu's method has acquired the most effective performance in the group of even illumination images and the Niblack's method with parameter correction has shown the best quality in the group of uneven illumination images.

System-Level Seismic Fragility Evaluation of Bridge Considering Aging Effects (노후도를 고려한 교량의 시스템-수준 지진취약도 평가)

  • As a bridge ages, its mechanical properties and structural performance deteriorate, degrading its seismic performance during a strong earthquake. In this study, the aging of piers and bridge bearings was quantified in several stages and reflected in the analysis model, enabling the evaluation of the member-level seismic fragility of these bearings. Moreover, by assuming that the failure mechanism of a bridge system is a series system, a method for evaluating the system-level seismic fragility based on the member-level seismic fragility analysis result is formulated and proposed. For piers with rubber and lead-rubber bearings (members vulnerable to aging effects), five quantitative degrees of aging (0, 5, 10, 25, and 40%) are assumed to evaluate the member-level seismic fragility. Then, based on the result, the system-level seismic fragility evaluation was implemented. The pier rather than the bridge bearing is observed to have a dominant effect on the system-level seismic fragility. This means that the seismic fragility of more vulnerable structural members has a dominant influence on the seismic fragility of the entire bridge system.

  • This study aims at establishing the decision-making support system for the highway assets, long-term performance presumption and evaluation of asset value, which are appropriate for Korea, and proposing the methods of the optimal engineering method and the timing decision for the preventive maintenance through the project evaluation, the optimization method and life-cycle analysis related to the highways. In order to supplement the current problem of the near-sighted budget management system, which chooses the maintenance place of the highway, depending on the level of the budget with fixed amount, the long-term required budget prediction system and the economy principle were introduced, so that the pavement agency can predict the level of the required budget, and it was aimed to develop the pavement asset evaluation system to maintain the performance of the highway with the minimum of the cost. In the use of the highway pavement asset evaluation system, to maintain the appropriate level of the pavement evaluation index, when the budget was efficiently established in the reference of the required maintenance budget for the chosen section of the highway in the year concerned, it was possible to analyze the most rational pavement maintenance budget. With this result, it is estimated to prevent the unnecessary waste of budget in advance, and through the development of the decision-making system for the long-term performance presumption and the asset value estimation of the pavement, it is expected to able to analyze the previous evaluation of the project related to the highway and the feasibility of introduction.

  • A performance evaluation, which requires to observe students in the course of learning and studying and to evaluate their reports and materials, is emerging as an alternative evaluation method to overcome the shortcoming of simple written tests. However, there are many difficulties in real teaching setting to apply the performance evaluation, because it requires many burdens of efforts and time. In order to reduce these burdens of teachers, there have been several approaches which utilize the Internet for the evaluation. But these previous approaches have several limitations that they don't allow students' participation in evaluation activities, fail to provide a variety of evaluation methods. and/or support teachers' feedbacks very limitedly. In order to overcome these limitations. therefore. this paper designed and implemented a web- based performance evaluation system supporting the participation of students in doing evaluation themselves and various evaluation methods. which can be effectively managed by teachers. This web-based performance evaluation system developed in this paper can enhance not only students' high level thinking abilities but also their emotional and intellectual abilities. It can also help teachers to reduce the burden of working and the time in plenty used for evaluating students.
