  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of exercise using a suspension device (sling and total body resistance exercise; TRX) on physical functional performance and postural balance. Methods : An experimental study comparing 2 different suspension exercise was conducted on 16 healthy college students. 16 subjects were assigned to two groups. They were classified into 8 sling group and 8 TRX group. Miniplus was used to evaluate physical functional performance. In this study, isokinetic resistance mode was used to compare and analyze seven movement patterns. Biorescue was used to evaluate postural balance. The intervention exercises in this study are as follows. Standing lean forward (SLF) using a sling and TRX was performed 3 times a week for 3 weeks. The SLF was held for 10 seconds and then rested for 15 seconds, repeated a total of 10 times for 3 sets. Results : In the TRX group, significant increases were observed in physical functional performance (p<.05). Among the differences between groups, significant differences were confirmed on the front of the right arm, the back of the left arm, and the back of the right arm. In the sling group, significant increases were observed in left, right, front, and overall dynamic balance (p<.05). A significant increase in posterior dynamic balance was confirmed in the TRX group (p<.05). There was no significant difference between groups. Conclusion : Based on the results of this study, TRX was effective in improving physical functional performance, while the sling was effective in enhancing postural balance. However, confirming the effectiveness of slings and TRX in the relationship between physical functional performance and postural balance proved inadequate. Therefore, additional research should be conducted to verify the effects of suspension.

  • This paper addresses a new passive target tracking problem using the range differences measured by cooperative UAVs. In order to solve the range difference based passive target tracking problem within the framework of linear robust state estimation, the uncertain linear measurement model which contains the stochastic parameter uncertainty is derived by using the noisy range difference measurements. To cope with the performance degradation due to the stochastic parameter uncertainty, the recently developed non-conservative robust Kalman filtering technique [1] is applied. For the cruciform formation flying UAVs, the relationship between the target tracking performance and the measurement errors is quantitatively analyzed. The proposed filter has practical advantages over the classical nonlinear filters because, for its recursive linear structure, it can provide satisfactory convergence properties and is suitable for real-time multiple UAVs applications. Through the simulations, the usefulness of the proposed method is demonstrated.

  • Thermal performance tests of solar thermal collectors include determination of coefficient parameters in an efficiency equation. The parameters can be estimated using regression method to minimize an objective function as sum of differences between measured efficiency data and regressed efficiency equation. However, this conventional approach doesn't consider measurement uncertainties. In this presentation, a method to determine regression parameters in the efficiency equation and uncertainties of the parameters is described with mainly mathematical expressions based on literature reviews. In the method, parameters in the equation for collector efficiency can be determined using regression analysis with a weighting factor in the objective function. The weighting factor can be uncertainties of the differences between measured and fitted efficiencies. To evaluate the approach, performance estimation of a solar collector using the efficiency equation with uncertainties is compared to the result using the conventional efficiency equation by a simulated way for a case in one of previous studies.

  • The research investigated CEO´s perception about information technology(IT) and corporate strategy by analyzing CEO's letters appeared in annual reports. Particularly, this paper examined whether there are differences in CEO's perceptions about IT among industries, and time frame. The target industries are manufacturing, distribution/services, banking, and telecommunication; the target time frames are 1996 through 1999. Also, this research examined whether CEO's perceptions about If have positive effects on organizational performance. Major findings are: First, there are distinctive differences among industries in the number of times IT was mentioned, the types of applications discussed, and the content of the discussion. Second, the number of times IT was mentioned increased over time. Third, there is a slightly positive relationship between the number of times IT was mentioned and organizational performance; but, the finding is hard to generalize.

  • Super-cavitating vehicle which is operating under water speeds up to 100m/s. In this process super-cavitation around body reduces frictional resistance. This paper introduces experimental study on different width of suction path as there is a warhead in the torpedo. Hydraulic performances of turbopump at non-cavitating condition does not display a significant differences depending on different width of suction path. However, cavitation performance of each model shows obvious differences in the same condition of experience. In case of radial inlet, the value of critical NPSH(which indicates 3% head drop) increases about 20% in comparison of axial inlet.

  • In the previous test, the verification of the standard floor impact source was carried out comparing the physical characteristics with living impact sources. The result was appeared the validation of the standard impact source was very low because of differences of physical characteristics. This study aims to evaluate annoyance and loudness of standard impact source which is used for the measurement of floor impact sound, and to compare the annoyance and loudness of living impact sources which are produced in real life. The impact sources considered are tapping machine, tire and impact ball as standard sources, and nine real sources which were chosen from the existing researches. The result showed differences of annoyance and loudness between standard impact sources and living impact sources, which means the standard impact sources may rate the performance of floor system inappropriately. In the future, the rating method should be examined how the standard impact sources are similar with real sources in the point of rating the performance of floor system.

  • In the case of traditional binary encoding technique, it takes long time to converge the optimal solutions and brings about complexity of the systems due to encoding and decoding procedures. However, the ROGAs (real-coded genetic algorithms) do not require these procedures, and the k-means clustering algorithm can avoid global searching space. Thus, this paper proposes a new approach by using their advantages. The proposed method constructs the multiple predictors using the optimal differences that can reveal the patterns better and properties concealed in non-stationary time series where the k-means clustering algorithm is used for data classification to each predictor, then selects the best predictor. After selecting the best predictor, the cluster centers of the predictor are tuned finely via RCGKA in secondary tuning procedure. Therefore, performance of the predictor can be more enhanced. Finally, we verifies the prediction performance of the proposed system via simulating typical time series examples.

  • There are many differences in narrative delivery between common movies and Virtual Reality(VR) films due to their differences in the appreciation structure. In VR films, scene changes by cuts have hindered the immersion of the audience instead of promoting narrative delivery. There are a range of experiments on narratives and immersion to solve this issue in VR films. Floating Tent applies hand gestures and immersive effects found in game elements and does not disturb narrative delivery by setting proper spaces and employing a direction technique to enable the melting of narratives into the characteristics of the spaces. There are time limits to offsound and mission performance, and devices fit for apocalyptic spatial expressions are made through a program. One of measures for the increasingly growing interactive storytelling in VR films is effective immersion. In narrative delivery, it is important to consider spatial setting and immersion to enable active intervention into events for immersion rather than passive audience only supposed to watch characters' acting.

  • In this study, sand cast AZ91E and zirconium grain refined MEZ are representative of two typical groups of magnesium alloys: those containing aluminium and those containing no aluminium but with zirconium as a grain refiner. The corrosion performance of these two alloys was evaluated and compared in 5%wt NaCI solution through measurements of weight loss and polarisation curves and examination of microstructure. Corrosion damage of AZ91E was deeper and more localised than that of MEZ, while MEZ had a lower rate of cathodic hydrogen evolution and a higher rate of anodic dissolution than AZ91E. These differences in behaviour can be related to the differences in microstructure and chemical composition between the two alloys.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performances of 5 hospitals which have some different management systems and how are the differences in performance and what do they mean in aspects of architectural planning, if they exist. All of hospitals are located in M city, Jeonnam Province. Data sources are each hospital's patient-statistics and profit & loss statements. Management systems of surveyed hospitals consist in 2 inpatient-based, 1 outpatient-focused and 2 hospitals, not showing any characteristics. Time ranges for survey are 5 years from 1999 through 2003.
