패션디자이너 직무수행을 위해 필요한 지식수준에 관한 연구 - 한국과 미국을 중심으로 - (The Level of Knowledge Required to Fulfill the Task of Fashion Design -A Cross-cultural Study between South Korea and the United States -)

  • Employees overseas have a need to prepare according to the different environments and industrial structures between countries. Therefore, to investigate qualities for fashion designers to possess when they work abroad, especially in the United States, this study compared the level of knowledge required to fulfill the work of fashion design in both South Korea and the United States. Responses from workers who are engaged to fashion design from the representative online career information systems of two countries, 'Worknet' in South Korea and '$O^*Net$' in the United States, were used as data. Looking at the result derived from the analysis of this study, first by comparing various statistical indicators, results showed the difference between knowledge level required to fashion designer in South Korea and in the United States. Even with the same type of job, because environments and industrial structures of each country are dissimilar, a different level of knowledge will be required in order to perform their tasks. Second, fashion designers in both South Korea and the United States required a high level of knowledge in the 'fine arts', 'administration and management', 'production and processing', and 'design' to perform their duties as a fashion designer. As a result, both countries have similarities that fashion designers need to possess a high level of the knowledge in areas such as 'production of products' as well as 'sales of products'. Furthermore, human relationship field of knowledge such as 'counseling', 'psychology', and 'communication' appeared to be more necessary to fashion designers in South Korea than those in the United States. On the other hand, higher degree of knowledge of 'machines and tools', ' fine arts', and 'transportation' appeared to be more necessary to fashion designers in the United States than those in South Korea.

  • Current CAD systems are good enough to be used as a tool to manipulate three-dimensional shapes. This is a very important capability to be owned by a design tool because a major portion of designers'activities is spent on the shape manipulation in the design detailing process. However, the whole design process involves a lot more than the, shape manipulation. Currently, these remaining tasks, mostly logical reasoning process for the function realization together with structure decomposition in the top-down manner, are processed in the designer's brain. To support the top-down functional design process of a mechanical product, a system integrating the functional, structural and geometrical aspects of a product design in a unified environment is presented. Using this system, a designer can perform function decomposition, structure decomposition, and geometry detailing, and function verification activities in parallel and the whole design process it modeled resultantly. Once the whole design process is modeled, any redesign task can be automatically performed with the verification of the desired functions.

  • Although feature-based design is a promising approach to fully integrating CAD/CAM, current feature-based design approaches seldom provide methodologies to easily define and design features. This paper proposes a new approach to integrating parametric design with feature-based design to overcome those limitations by globally decomposing a design into a set of features and locally defining and positioning each feature by geometric constraints. Each feature is defined as a parametric shape which consists of a feature section, attributes, and a set of constraints. The generalized sketching and sweeping techniques are used to simplify the process of designing features. The proposed approach is knowledge-based and its computational efficiency in geometric reasoning is improved greatly. Parametrically designed features not only have the advantage of allowing users to efficiently perform design changes, but also provide designers with a natural design environment in which they can do their work more naturally and creatively.

Design Strategy Based on Designer Roles in Design-Oriented Firms: A Comparison of Hanssem and Ikea

  • Purpose - This paper addresses the role of designers in design-oriented firms and how they should work together with other organization members. The aim of this paper is to investigate how designers generate ideas and cooperate with others as well as how their participation in decision-making reflects on corporate design strategies. Research design, data, and methodology - An in-depth exploratory study examined how designers actually perform their roles in enterprises; in addition, information, knowledge, communication among designers, and sources of creativity were examined. Hanssem and Ikea grew as design-intensive businesses in a declining industry. Data were obtained from interviews with the design staff of each company as well as secondary sources. Results - Designers were found to use their designs to communicate with customers as well as with communities outside of the enterprise; they also participated in overall decision-making in relation to important design strategies. Conclusions - This study emphasized the increasing importance of the innovative and creative role of designers; thus, it might substantially help companies to develop their own design capabilities and deploy design strategies.

  • This paper was developed the discrete optimum design program by the refined fuzzy-genetic algorithms based on the genetic algorithms and fuzzy theory. The optimum design of this paper can perform both size and shape optimum design for planar and spacial steel structures. In this paper, the objective function is the weight of steel structures and the constraints are the design limits defined by design and buckling strengths, displacements and thicknesses. The design variables are dimensions and coordinates of steel sections. Design examples are given to show the applicability of the discrete optimum design program of this paper.

Adaptable conceptual aircraft design model

  • This paper presents a new conceptual design model ACAD (Adaptable Conceptual Aircraft Design), which differs from the other models due to its considerable adaptability to the different classes of aircraft. Another significant feature is the simplicity of the process which leads to the preliminary design outputs and also allowing a substantial autonomy in design choices. The model performs the aircraft design in terms of total weight, weight of aircraft subsystems, airplane and engine performances, and basic aircraft configuration layout. Optimization processes were implemented to calculate the wing aspect ratio and to perform the design requirements fulfillment. In order to evaluate the model outcomes, different test cases are presented: a STOL ultralight airplane, a new commuter with open-rotor engines and a last generation fighter.

  • 건설 프로젝트에서의 VE는 예산낭비와 비효율적 요인을 서전제거하는 유용한 도구로 활용되고 있다. 이에 따라 2006년부터 건설교통부에서는 "설계의경제성등검토"를 총공사비 100억원 이상으로 확대 시행하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 제도적 뒷받침이나 기술적인 노력에도 불구하고 국내 설계VE는 수행과정에서 문제점이 지적되고 있어 효과가 극대화되지 못하고 있다. 효과적인 설계VE팀 구성으로 설계VE의 성과를 극대화하기 위해서는 설계VE팀의 역량평가에 대한 체크리스트의 개발이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구는 설계VE팀의 역량평가 체크리스트 개발을 위한 기초자료로써 역량 평가항목을 도출하고 가중치를 산정하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 설계VE팀의 특성에 따른 역량인자를 도출하여 팀 지식, 팀워크스킬, 팀 태도로 구별하여 구성하였다. 도출된 역량인자의 중요도에 대해 1차 설문조사를 실시하여 신뢰도와 타당도를 검증하고, 그 결과로 도출된 제 1, 2, 3계층의 역량 평가항목에 대하여 계층 분석적 의사결정기법을 활용한 2차 설문조사를 실시하여 가중치를 산정하였다.

  • The objective of this study is the development of size, shape and topology discrete optimum design algorithm which is based on the genetic algorithms. The algorithm can perform both shape and topology optimum designs of trusses. The developed algorithm was implemented in a computer program. For the optimum design, the objective function is the weight of trusses and the constraints are stress and displacement. The basic search method for the optimum design is the genetic algorithms. The algorithm is known to be very efficient for the discrete optimization. The genetic algorithm consists of genetic process and evolutionary process. The genetic process selects the next design points based on the survivability of the current design points. The evolutionary process evaluates the survivability of the design points selected from the genetic process. The efficiency and validity of the developed size, shape and topology discrete optimum design algorithms were verified by applying the algorithm to optimum design examples
