We develop the signal processing method for implementing the human perceptual variant on frequency and space. The human visual perceptual sensitivity varies as frequency components and the human perceivable resolution diminishes as the distances further from the eye-focused point. For realizing the frequency sensitivity, we developed the signal direction adaptive multiband energy scaling method to weight the frequency components. The low-pass filtering is designed on the developed energy scaling method for diminishing perceivable resolutions as the deviated distance from the eye-focused point. The developed method not only enhances the frequency components of image signals at the eye-focused region but also smoothes non-perceivable detailed image signals at non-focused regions. The proposed method is verified by the subjective and objective evaluations that it can improve human perceptual visual quality.

An auditory-perceptual rating scale has long been utilized in an evaluation procedure of Parkinsonian speech. This study attempted to investigate various variables and appropriate equal-interval rating scale for each variable. We collected speech samples from 27 patients with Parkinsonian speech disorders. A total of 25 variables and descriptions for each variable across phonatory, resonatory, and articulatory dimensions were included in the rating scale. The descriptive parts of each variable could increase the objectivity of the rating scale.

The floor impact noise in apartment buildings has been known as the most sensitively recognized environmental noise. Therefore. inhabitants perceptual evaluation of floor impact noises was investigated by a questionnaire survey. It was found that the respondents perceive the floor impact noises from the upper nor as a constant noise level. However, if there is any child on the upper floor. the respondents felt Its noise as a harshly grating level. It was also found that the larger the respondents house is. the higher their wanted level of noise isolation is. Moreover, it was revealed that the main source of the floor impact noise from the upper floor is a child at the age from six to seven. The results could be used as fundamental data for the research on impact sources and new regulations that fit to Korean perceptual aspects and characteristics.

The purpose of this experimental study was to investigate prosodic characteristics of English as spoken by Koreans. Test materials were four English words, a sentence, and a paragraph. Six female Korean speakers and five native English speakers participated in acoustic and perceptual experiments. Pitch and duration of word syllables were measured from signals and spectrograms made by the Signalize 3.04 software program for Power Mac 7200. In the perceptual experiment, accent position, intonation patterns, rhythm patterns and phrasing were evaluated by the five native English speakers. Preliminary results from this limited study show that prosodic characteristics of Koreans include (1) pitch on the first part of a word and sentence is lower than that of English speakers, but the pitch on the last part is the opposite; (2) word prosody is quite similar to that of an English speaker, but sentence prosody is quite different; (3) the weakest point of sentence prosody spoken by Koreans is in the rhythmic pattern.

The e-business strategies ultimately pursue creating the maximal value for customers through the competitive advantages and business opportunities newly created on the basis of information technologies. For the realization of e-business strategies, the successful implementation and operation of e-business system must be the crucial activities in and out of an organization. Therefore, in physical world, there were lots of interests that what kind of key factors can lead the success of e-business system. Moreover, in the field of academia also, there have been many research results for investigating and finding out the key success factors for e-business system. However, the perceptual level of the significance of key success factors that organization members perceive can be changed over each phase of system life cycle such phases as introduction, growth, maturity, and decline. This study investigated that there might be significant differences in the perceptual level regarding importance of success factors among phases of system life cycle.

This paper presents an adaptive digital image watermarking scheme that uses successive subband quantization (SSQ) and perceptual modeling. Our approach performs a multiwavelet transform to determine the local image properties optimal and the watermark embedding location. The multiwavelet used in this paper is the DGHM multiwavelet with approximation order 2 to reduce artifacts in the reconstructed image. A watermark is embedded into the perceptually significant coefficients (PSC) of the image in each subband. The PSCs in high frequency subbands are selected by setting the thresholds to one half of the largest coefficient in each subband. After the PSCs in each subband are selected, a perceptual model is combined with a stochastic approach based on the noise visibility function to produce the final watermark.

In model-based tracking, an accurate 3D model of a target object or scene is mostly assumed to be known or given in advance, but the accuracy of the model should be guaranteed for accurate pose estimation. In many application domains, on the other hand, end users are not highly distracted by tracking errors from certain levels of modeling errors. In this paper, we examine perceptual tracking errors, which are predominantly caused by modeling errors, on subjective evaluation and compare them to computational tracking errors. We also discuss the tolerance of modeling errors by analyzing their permissible ranges.

Cases of botched information systems implementation have been surfaced due to poor IS project management and control. One major source of such failures is the perceptual difference between the participants of IS projects who should define potential risk factors well before considered IS projects are launched. Based on risk factors cited from prior works, this paper empirically examines the risk factors associated with IS service project management to analyze perceptual differences between the IS service providers and customers in Korea. Data analyses found significant differences in the area of scheduling/resource, technological newness, communications, and sponsorship/ownership while statistically significant differences were observed in eleven individual factors out of forty six risk factors. Risk factors are also ordered in terms of perceived importance to highlight the critical differences.

The present study examined if individual listeners' perceptual variations were associated with their cognitive characteristics indexed by the Autistic Spectrum Quotient (AQ). This study first investigated the perception of the lexical pitch accent contrast in the Kyungsang Korean currently undergoing a sound change, and then tested if listeners' perceptual variations were correlated with their AQ scores. Eighteen Kyungsang listeners in their 20s participated in the perception experiment where they identified two contrastive accent words for auditory stimuli systematically varying F0 scaling and timing properties; the participants then completed the AQ questionnaire. In the results, the acoustic parameters reporting reduced phonetic differences across accent contrasts for younger Kyungsang generation played a reliable role in perceiving the HH word from HL, suggesting the discrepancy between the perception and the production in the context of sound change. This study also observed that individuals' perceptual variations were negatively correlated with their AQ sub scores. The present findings suggested that the sound change might appear differently between production and perception with a different time course, and deviant percepts could be explained by individuals' cognitive measure.
