Paradigm depending only on fossil fuel for building heat source is rapidly changing. Accelerating the change, as it has been known, is obligation for reducing green house gas coming from use of fossil fuel, i.e. reaction to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. In addition, factors such as high oil price, unstable supply, weapon of petroleum and oil peak, by replacing fossil fuel, contributes to advance of environmental friendly renewable energy which can be continuously reusable. Therefore, current new energy policies, beyond enhancing effectiveness of heat using equipments, are to make best efforts for national competitiveness. Our country supports 11 areas for new renewable energy including sun light, solar heat and wind power. Among those areas, ocean thermal energy specifies tidal power generation using tide of sea, wave and temperature differences, wave power generation and thermal power generation. But heat use of heat source from sea water itself has been excluded as non-utilized energy. In the future, sea water heat source which has not been used so far will be required to be specified as new renewable energy. This research is to survey local heating system in Europe using sea water, central solar heating plants, seasonal thermal energy store and to analyze large scale central solar heating plants in German. Seasonal thermal energy store necessarily need to be equipped with large scale thermal energy store. Currently operating central solar heating system is a effective method which significantly enhances sharing rate of solar heat in a way that stores excessive heat generating in summer and then replenish insufficient heat for winter. Construction cost for this system is primarily dependent on large scale seasonal heat store and this high priced heat store merely plays its role once per year. Since our country is faced with 3 directional sea, active research and development for using sea water heat as cooling and heating heat source is required for seashore villages and building units. This research suggests how to utilize new energy in a way that stores cooling heat of sea water into seasonal thermal energy store when temperature of sea water is its lowest temperature in February based on West Sea and then uses it as cooling heat source when cooling is necessary. Since this method utilizes seasonal thermal energy store from existing central solar heating plant for heating and cooling purpose respectively twice per year maximizing energy efficiency by achieving 2 seasonal thermal energy store, active research and development is necessarily required for the future.
A promising alternative technology is the potential use of ice slurries as a secondary refrigerant in conventional cooling process. Ice slurries behave almost like a liquid and can be pumped through pipes although the energy capacity of ice slurries per unit volume is considerably higher than that for chilled water or brine due to the latent heat capacity of the ice particles. To give the basic data for the design of cooling systems using ice slurries, experimental study has been conducted to find out the performance of the cooling coil of show-case with ice slurries. Despite the fact that ice slurries entering the cooling coil had at least $5^{\circ}C$ higher temperature than that of R22, it was still capable of providing a similar cooling performance than that obtained with R22.

Reliable estimation of energy load inside the greenhouse and the selection of cooling and heating facilities are very important preceding factors to save energy as well as initial and maintenance costs of operating a greenhouse. Recently, building energy simulation (BES) technique to simulate a model similar to the actual conditions through a variety of dynamic simulation methods, and predict and analyze the flow of energy is being actively introduced and developed. As a fundamental research to apply the BES technique which is mainly used for analysis of general buildings, to greenhouse, this research designed four types of naturally-ventilated greenhouses using one of commercial programs, TRNSYS, and then compared and analyzed their energy load properties, by applying meteorological data collected from six regions in Korea. When comparing the greenhouse load of each region depending on latitude and topographical characteristics through simulation, Chuncheon had nearly 9~49 % higher heating load per year than other regions, but its annual cooling load was the reverse to it. Except for Jeju, 1-2W type greenhouses in five regions showed about 17 % higher heating load than a widespan type greenhouse, and 1-2W type greenhouses in Chuncheon, Suwon, Cheongju, Daegu, Cheonju and Jeju had 23 %, 20 %, 17 %, 16 %, 18 % and 20 % higher cooling load respectively than a wide span-type one. Glasshouse and vinyl greenhouse showed 8~11 % and 10~12 % differences respectively in heating load, while 2~10 % and 7~10 % differences in cooling load respectively.

In this paper, the configuration and design of the test equipment are presented to examine the impact of rapid temperature change in cooling-air that may occur during the operation of the fixed wing aircraft Environmental Control System (ECS) on avionic electronic equipment. At the start of the ECS, the temperature of the air supplied by the aircraft ECS may be increased to 5.0℃ per second. In order to ensure operating of the avionic electronic equipment that is mounted on the aircraft and receives cooling-air from the ECS, testing equipment that can implement the cooling-air characteristic test environment is required. During design of test equipment was verified cooling-air rapid rate of temperature change by performing a thermal/flow analysis, performance of the test equipment implemented was verified by applying an avionic electronic equipment.
Activity ratio of two radioactive primary fission products which had sufficiently different half-lives was expressed as functions of cooling time and irradiation histories in which average burnup, irradiation time, cycle interval time and the dominant fissile material of the spent fuel were included. The gamma-ray spectra of 36 samples from 6 spent PWR fuel assemblies irradiated in Kori unit-1 reactor were obtained by a spectrometric system equipped with a high purity germanium gamma-ray detector. Activity ratio $^{l44}$Ce $^{l37}$Cs, analyzed from each spectrum, was used for the calculation of cooling time. The results show that the radioactive fission products $^{l44}$Ce and $^{l37}$Cs are considered as useful monitors for cooling time determination because the estimated cooling time by detection of activity ratio $^{l44}$Ce $^{l37}$Cs agreed well with the operator declared cooling time within relative difference of $\pm$5 % despite the low counting rate of the gamma-ray of $^{l44}$Ce (about 10$^{-3}$ count per second). For the samples with several different irradiation histories, the determined cooling time by modeled irradiation history showed good agreement with that by known irradiation history within time difference of $\pm$0.5 year. From this result, it would be expected to be possible to estimate reliably the cooling time of spent nuclear fuel without the exact information about irradiation history. The feasibility study on identification of and/or sorting out spent nuclear fuel by applying the technique for cooling time determination was also performed and the result shows that the detection of activity ratio $^{l44}$Ce $^{l37}$Cs by gamma-ray spectrometry would be usefully applicable to certify spent nuclear fuel for the purpose of safeguards and management in a facility in which the samples dismantled or cut from spent fuel assemblies are treated, such as the post irradiation examination facility.mination facility.

A micro-macroscopic analysis on the conduction-controlled directional casting of Al-Cu alloys is performed, in which emphases are placed on the microstructural features. In order to facilitate the solution procedure, an iterative micro-macroscopic coupling algorithm is developed. The predicted results show that the effect of finite back diffusion on the transient solidification process in comparison with the lever rule depends essentially on the initial concentration of an alloy. In the final casting, the eutectic fraction is distributed in an increasing-decreasing-increasing pattern, each mode of which is named the chill, interior and end zones. This nonuniformity per se suffices to justify the necessity of this work because it originates from the combined effects of finite back diffusion and cooling path-dependent nature of the eutectic formation. As the cooling rate is enhanced, not only the influence depths of boundaries narrow, but also the eutectic fractions in the chill and interior zones increase. In addition, it is revealed for the first time that the micro segregation band is formed in response to a sudden change in cooling rate during the directional casting. An increasing change creates an overshooting band in the eutectic fraction distribution, and vice versa.

In order to investigate the feasibility of a direct ice slurry transporting system for the purpose of district cooling, a case study of field application is performed. The research aims include the field measurement of ice packing factor, the performance of coldness delivery, and the branching characteristics of ice slurry. Two representative types of pipe branch are dealt with in this work. For the slurry flow with ice volume fraction of 0.16 or less, the pipe blocking due to aggregation is not observed. Based on the time-wise variation of temperature in the storage tank, a calculating method of ice packing factor is newly developed, which seems to be useful when the brine concentration is unknown. It is confirmed that the mass flow rate of ice slurry per unit cooling load is markedly reduced with increasing the ice content. The pumping power also decreases, but remains unchanged for high ice fractions. The distribution of ice particle before and after branching shows a good uniformity within the range of 5% difference, but yields a unique trend depending on the flow rate.

Rising concern about climate change has evoked interest in the potential for urban vegetation to help reduce the level of atmospheric CO\sub 2\, a major heat-trapping gas. This study quantified the functio of home energy savings and carbon emission reduction by shading, evapotranspiration and windspeed reduction of urban vegetatioin in Chuncheon. Tree and shrub cover averaged approximately 13% in residential land. The effects of shading, evapotranspiration and windspeed reduction annually saved heating energy by 2.2% and cooling energy by 8.8%. The heating and cooling energy savings reduced carbon emissions by 3.0% annually. These avoided emissions equaled the amount of carbon emitted annually from fossil fuel consumption by a population of about 1,230. Carbon emission reduction per residential building was 55kg for detached buildings and 872 kg for multifamily buildings. Urban vegetation annually decreased heating and cooling energy cost by ₩1.1 billions, which were equivalent to annual savings of ₩10,000 savings and carbon emission reduction due to tree plantings in the wrong locations, while windspeed reduction had a great effect. Plantings fo large trees close to the west and east wall of buildings, full tree plantings on the north, and avoidance of shade-tree plantings or selection of solar-friendlytrees on the south were recommended to improve the function of building energy savings and carbon emission reduction by urban vegetation.

The air-cooled passive decay heat removal system (APDHR) was proposed to provide the ultimate heat sink for non-LOCA accidents. The APDHR is a modified one of Passive Auxiliary Feed-water system (PAFS) installed in APR+. The PAFS has a heat exchanger in the Passive Condensate Cooling Tank (PCCT) and can remove decay heat for 8 h. After that, the heat transfer rate through the PAFS drastically decreases because the heat transfer condition changes from water to air. The APDHR with a vertical heat exchanger in PCCT will be able to remove the decay heat by air if it has sufficient natural convection in PCCT. We conducted the thermal-hydraulic simulation by the MARS code to investigate the behavior of the APR + selected as a reference plant for the simulation. The simulation contains two phases based on water depletion: the early phase and the late phase. In the early phase, the volume of water in PCCT was determined to avoid the water depletion in three days after shutdown. In the late phase, when the number of the HXs is greater than 4089 per PCCT, the MARS simulation confirmed the long-term cooling by air is possible under extended Station Blackout (SBO).

The notebook system use the radial fan to cool the main chipsets which generate heat. It needs to improve cooling performance by increasing fan RPM or increasing fan volume. But the former accompanies acoustic noise problem and the latter has a limitation due to notebook height and cooling area. So this study shows fatal parameters in the fan performance view point, and optimization process with Design Of Experiment. With this result, the fan CFM increases with same size of fan and we can use it as a result of decreasing fan acoustic noise.
