Organic semiconductors based on vacuum-deposited films of fused-ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon have great potential to be utilized as an active layer for electronic and optoelectronic devices. In this study, pentacene thin films and electrode materials were deposited by Organic Molecular Beam Deposition (OMBD) and vacuum evaporation respectively. For the gate dielectric layer, OPTMER PC403 photo acryl (JSR Coporation.) was spin-coated and cured at $220^{\circ}C$. Electrical characteristics of the devices were investigated, where the channel length and width was $50{\mu}m$ and 5 mm. It was found that field effect mobility was $0.039\;cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$, threshold voltage was -7 V, and on/off current ratio was $10^6$.
In this work the electrical characteristics of organic TFTs using organic insulator and flexible polyester substrate have been investigated. Pentacene and PVP(polyvinylphenol) are used as an active semiconducting layer and dielectric layer respectively. Pentacene was thermally evaporated in vacuum at a pressure of about $1{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr and at a deposition rate of $0.5{\AA}$/sec, and PVP was spin-coated. Aluminium and gold were used for gate and source/drain electrodes. 0.1mm thick flexible polyester substrate was used instead of glass or silicon wafer.
Recently, active materials such as amorphous silicon (a-Si), poly crystalline silicon (poly-Si), transition metal oxide semiconductors (TMO), and organic semiconductors have been demonstrated for flexible electronics. In order to apply flexible devices on the polymer substrates, all layers should require the characteristic of flexibility as well as the low temperature process. Especially, pentacene thin film transistors (TFTs) have been investigated for probable use in low-cost, large-area, flexible electronic applications such as radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, smart cards, display backplane driver circuits, and sensors. Since pentacene TFTs were studied, their electrical characteristics with varying single variable such as strain, humidity, and temperature have been reported by various groups, which must preferentially be performed in the flexible electronics. For example, the channel mobility of pentacene organic TFTs mainly led to change in device performance under mechanical deformation. While some electrical characteristics like carrier mobility and concentration of organic TFTs were significantly changed at the different temperature. However, there is no study concerning multivariable. Devices actually worked in many different kinds of the environment such as thermal, light, mechanical bending, humidity and various gases. For commercialization, not fewer than two variables of mechanism analysis have to be investigated. Analyzing the phenomenon of shifted characteristics under the change of multivariable may be able to be the importance with developing improved dielectric and encapsulation layer materials. In this study, we have fabricated flexible pentacene TFTs on polymer substrates and observed electrical characteristics of pentacene TFTs exposed to tensile and compressive strains at the different values of temperature like room temperature (RT), 40, 50, $60^{\circ}C$. Effects of bending and heating on the device performance of pentacene TFT will be discussed in detail.

A dipolar interlayer can cause dramatic changes in the device characteristics of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) or photovoltaics. A shift in the threshold voltage, for example, has been observed in an OFET where the organic semiconductor active layer is deposited on SiO2 modified with a dipolar monolayer. Dipolar molecules can similarly be used to change the current-voltage characteristics of organic-inorganic heterojunctions. We have conducted a series of experiments in which different molecular linkages are placed between a pentacene thin film and a silicon substrate. Interface modifications with different linkages allow us to predict and examine the nature of tunneling through pentacene on modified Si surfaces with different dipole moment. The molecular-scale structure and the tunneling properties of pentacene thin films on modified Si (001) with nitrobenzene and styrene were examined using scanning tunneling spectroscopy. Electronic interfaces using organic surface dipoles can be used to control the band lineups of a semiconductor at organic/inorganic interfaces. Our results can provide insights into the charge transport characteristics of organic thin films at electronic interfaces.

There are currently considerable interest in the applications of conjugated polymers, oligomers, and small molecules for thin-film electronic devices. Organic materials have potential advantages to be utilized as semiconductors in field-effect transistors and light-emitting diodes. In this study, pentacene thin-film transistors (TFTs) were fabricated on glass substrate. Aluminums were used for gate electrodes. Silicon dioxide was deposited as a gate insulator by PECVD and patterned by reactive ion etching (R.I.E). Gold was used for the electrodes of source and drain. The active semiconductor pentacene layer was thermally evaporated in vacuum at a pressure of about $10^{-8}$ Torr and a deposition rate $0.3{\AA}/s$. The fabricated devices exhibited the field-effect mobility as large as 0.07 $cm^2/V.s$ and on/off current ratio as larger than $10^7$.

Active layer patterned OTFT was obtained on a plastic substrate using the optimal growth condition of pentancene thin films as active layer and parylene thin films as passivation layer. Tranditional photolithography was performed to use a dry etch to pattern the material stack. The pentacene thin film and parylene thin film were deposited onto a plastic substrate using PC-OVD and CVD, respectively.
In this paper we fabricated and succeeded to demonstrate a test panel for AMOLED on 2" glass and PET substrate. The test panel consisted of an array of 64 x 64 pixels in which OLEDs was driven by pentacene TFT. OTFTs were made of the inverted staggered structure and employed polyvinylphenol as the gate insulator and pentacene thin film as the active layer, producing the filed effect mobility of 0.3$cm^2$/V.sec and on/off current ratio of $10^5$. OLEDs were composed of TPD for HTL and Alq3 for EML with 35nm thick each, generating green monochrome light.

We fabricated OTFT-OLED display panel by using Ag-paste for source and drains electrode of OTFTs. The OTFTs were fabricated by solution processes such as spin-coating for PVP gate dielectric and screen printing for S/D electrodes with Ag-paste, except pentacene active layer which was deposited by evaporation. The mobility was 0.024 cm2/V.sec , off state current ${\sim}10-11A$, threshold voltage 7.6 V and on/off current ratio ${\sim}105$. The panel consisted of 16 x 16 pixels and each pixel consisted of 2 OTFTs, 1 Capacitor and 1 OLED. The pixels successfully worked in terms of current magnitude supplied to OLED and the control ability of driving and switching OTFTs.
In general, organic TFTs are comprised of four components: gate electrode, gate dielectric, organic active semiconductor layer, and source and drain contacts. The TFT current, in turn, is typically determined by channel length and width, carrier field effect mobility, gate dielectric thickness and permittivity, contact resistance, and biasing conditions. More recently, a number of techniques and processes have been introduced to the fabrication of OTFT circuits and displays that aim specifically at reduced fabrication cost. These include microcontact printing for the patterning of metals and dielectrics, the use of photochemically patterned insulating and conducting films, and inkjet printing for the selective deposition of contacts and interconnect pattern. In the fabrication of organic TFTs, microcontact printing has been used to pattern gate electrodes, gate dielectrics, and source and drain contacts with sufficient yield to allow the fabrication of transistors. We were fabricated a pentacene OTFTs on flexible PEN film. Au/Cr was used for the gate electrode, parylene-c was deposited as the gate dielectric, and Au/Cr was chosen for the source and drain contacts; were all deposited by ion-beam sputtering and patterned by microcontact printing and lift-off process. Prior to the deposition of the organic active layer, the gate dielectric surface was treated with octadecyltrichlorosilane(OTS) from the vapor phase. To complete the device, pentacene was deposited by thermal evaporation and patterned using a parylene-c layer. The device was shown that the carrier field effect mobility, the threshold voltage, the subthreshold slope, and the on/off current ratio were improved.
Organic thin film transitors(OTFT) are of interest for use in broad area electronic applications. And recently organic electroluminescent devices(OELD) have been intensively investigated for using in full-color flat-panel display. We have fabricated inverted-staggered structure OTFTs at lower temperature using the fused-ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon pentacene as the active eletronic material and photoacryl as the organic gate insulator. The field effect mobility is 0.039∼0.17 ㎠/Vs, on-off current ratio is 10$\^$6/, and threshold voltage is -7V. And here we report the study of driving emitting, Ir(ppy)$_3$, phosphorescent OELD with all organic thin film transistor and investigated its electrical characteristics. The OELD with a structure of ITO/TPD/8% Ir(ooy)$_3$ doped in BCP/BCP/Alq$_3$/Li:Al/Al and OTFT with a structure of inverted-stagged Al(gate electrode)/photoacry(gate insulator)/pentacene(p-type organic semiconductor)/ Au(source-drain electrode) were fabricated on the ITP patterned glass substrate. The electrical characteristics are turn-on voltage of -10V, and maximum luminance of about 90 cd/㎡. Device characteristics were quite different with that of only OELD.
