  • When a vortex diffracts upon encountering a vortex, many strong and weak waves are produced in the course of interaction. They are the cause of shock wave attenuation and noise production. This phenomenon is fundamental to understanding the more complex supersonic turbulent Jet noise. In this paper we have reviewed the research on shock-vortex interaction we have carried on last seven years. We have computationally investigated the parameter effect. When a shock is strong, shock diffraction pattern becomes complex since the slip lines from the triple points on Mach stem curl into the vortex, causing an entropy layer. When the vortex is unstable, vortexlets are brought about each of which make shock diffraction of a reduced intensity. Strong vortex produces quadrupole noise as it impinges into a vortex. Elementary interaction models such as shock splitting, shock reflection, and shock penetration are presented based on shock tube experiment. These models are also verified by computational approach. They easily explain production and propagation of the aforementioned quadrupole noise, Diverging acoustics are explained in terms of shock-vortexlet interactions for which a computational model Is constructed.

  • Various technological forecasting models have been proposed to represent the time pattern of technological growths. Of six such models studied, some models do significantly better than others, especially at low penetration levels, in predicting future levels of growth. Criteria for selecting an appropriate model for technological growth model are examined in this study. Two major characteristics were selected which differentiate the various models ; the skew of the curve and the underlying assumptions regarding the variance of the error structure of the model. Although the use of statistical techniques stil requires some subjective input and interpretations, this study provides some practical procedures in the selection of technological growth models and helps to reduce or control the potential source of judgmental error inconsistencies in the analyst's decision.

  • In this study, a mathematical model for flaw with silt protector is proposed that adds a second-order energy loss term in the momentum equation. The three-dimensional numerical model was developed based on mathematical models and verified through comparison with flume test results. Loss coefficients were evaluated through the flume tests and applied to the numerical model. It was found through the investigation of various example cases that the downstream flow pattern was affected mainly by penetration of the silt curtain, not by the approach velocity, and also that the blocking effect of velocity was increased by the increase in mesh density of the silt curtain, below a certain mesh density. The blocking effect did not increase further above a certain mesh density.

  • The usefulness of the magnetic camera for non-destructive testing of aging aircraft is discussed in this paper. The magnetic camera can be used f magnetic particle testing(MT), magnetic flux leakage testing(MFLT), eddy current testing(ECT) and penetration testing(PT). It measures the distribution of a magnetic field and visualizes the magnetic pattern. Near and far side cracks, fatigue, thickness degradation, and cracks under rivets have been detected. The possibility of quantitative evaluation was also examined. Using indirect experiments, we verified the detection ability of the sensor for cracks in titanium and advanced composite materials.

  • Purpose: In 2015, South Korea had the highest global smartphone penetration (88%). However, smartphone addiction can seriously disrupt daily life and have a major negative impact on academic achievement. Methods: A structured questionnaire was completed by 250 nursing students for this descriptive study. Results: Students who were older, more satisfied with their major, exercised, and used their smartphone for less than 30 minutes before sleeping had higher learning engagement than those who were younger, less satisfied, did not exercise and used their smartphone for more than three hours. Quality of sleep and smartphone addiction were negatively correlated as was quality of sleep and daytime sleepiness. Interestingly, sleep pattern did not impact learning engagement directly. Conclusion: Smartphone usage influences learning engagement of nursing students rather than their sleeping patterns, which suggests a need to develop self-disciplining strategies for smartphone use to enhance learning engagement.

  • Water mist fire suppression system utilizes the fire suppression features such as cooling of fire source, dilution of ambient oxygen, and shielding of radiation heat with the evaporation of microscopic water droplets. The momentum of water mist is relatively lower than that of larger water droplet and the infiltration of water mist to the fire source is not effective. Contribution of evaporated water vapor is liable to decline to limited portion of fire source due to its light weight and sparse density. On the other hand, the cycling water mist pattern is expected to improve the penetration force of water mist as well as the air expelling capability with the stratified spray characteristics. At this paper, we present the analyzed fire suppression capability of intermittent water spray pattern by use of FDS which is computational fire dynamics fire model. We expect this analysis can support the basic concept to the development of the prototype of water mist nozzle.

  • The typical patterns of surface $O_3$ pollution and their dependence on meteorology were studied in the Greater Seoul Area (GSA) during warm season (April-September) from 1998 to 2002. In order to classify the $O_3$ pollution patterns, two-stage (average linkage then k-means) clustering technique was employed based on daily maximum $O_3$ concentrations obtained from 53 monitoring sites during high $O_3$ events (118 days). The clustering technique identified four statistically distinct $O_3$ pollution patterns representing the different horizontal distributions and levels of $O_3$ in GSA. The prevailed pattern (93 days, $49.5\%$) distinctly showed the gradient of $49.5\%$ concentrations going from west to east in GSA. Very high $49.5\%$ concentrations throughout GSA (24 days, $12.8\%$) were also found as a significant pattern of severe $O_3$ pollution. In order to understand the characteristics of $O_3$ pollution patterns, the relationship between $O_3$ pollution patterns and meteorological conditions were analyzed using both synoptic charts and surface/upper air data. Each pattern was closely associated with surface wind interacted with synoptic background flow allowing to transport and accumulate $O_3$ and its precursor. In particular, the timing and inland penetration of sea-breeze were apparently found to play very important role in determining $O_3$ distributions.

  • Recently smartphone has propagated all age groups rapidly due to the fact that the advance of media and the increase of smartphone penetration. In South Korea, high-school students' smartphone retention rate is 90.2%. This study proceed an analysis of high school students' smartphone usage by a feasibility study, and also by recording the log data of actual usage patterns of smartphone applications. The feasibility study investigates subject's smartphone usage, and the log data analysis measures the accurate usage recorded for about three months. We compared the feasibility study and the log data for the daily smartphone usage, and investigated the change of usage pattern during the weekdays, weekends, and the before, during and after exams. High-school students are unique group in capital area. As a result, we found that high-school students' smartphone usage pattern in capital area has not affected by weekday or weekend but has affected by the before, during and after exams.

  • With the increase in the use of mobile banking service, mobile banking has become an attractive target to attackers. Even though many security measures are applied to the current mobile banking service, some threats such as physical theft or penetration to a mobile device from remote side are still remained as unsolved. With aiming to fill this void, we propose a novel approach to prevent e-financial incidents by analyzing mobile device user's input patterns. This approach helps us to distinguish between original user's usage and attacker's usage through analyzing personal input patterns such as input time-interval, finger pressure level on the touch screen. Our proposed method shows high accuracy, and is effective to prevent the e-finance incidents proactively.
