As the quality of a weld feint is strongly influenced by process parameters during the welding process, an intelligent algorithms that can predict the bead geometry and shape to accomplish the desired mechanical properties of the weldment should be developed. This paper focuses on the development of mathematical models fur the selection of process parameters and the prediction of bead geometry(bead width, bead height and penetration) in robotic GMA(Gas Metal Arc) welding. Factorial design can be employed as a guide for optimization of process parameters. Three factors were incorporated into the factorial model: arc current, welding voltage and welding speed. A sensitivity analysis has been conducted and compared the relative impact of three process parameters on bead geometry in order to verify the measurement errors on the values of the uncertainty in estimated parameters. The results obtained show that developed mathematical models can be applied to estimate the effectiveness of process parameters for a given bead geometry, and a change of process parameters affects the bead width and bead height more strongly than penetration relatively.
The tillage depth control system is one of the most salient control system of tractor implements. A contact-type height sensor was developed to measure ground clearance for the tillage depth control. The height sensor was fabricated in this study, and its efficacy in a tillage depth control system was evaluated. Experiments were conducted in order to determine both static and dynamic detection characteristics of the height sensor using soil bin system on the sampled soil (sandy loam, sand, clay loam). The results of the static detection characteristics showed that in the case, sandy loam soil despite and clay loam soil at a wet basis moisture content of 30%, large measurement errors were observed a due to penetration of a plastic puck into the sampled soil. The results of the dynamic detection characteristics showed that the height sensor detected the distance from the ground of sandy loam soil despite the uneven nature of the ground surface and the changes in traveling speed $1km/h{\sim}5km/h$ at a wet basis moisture content of 10%.

This paper presents a differential interferometry technique for soil moisture change detection by measuring surface-height variation. COSMO-SkyMed SAR images were used to verify the DInSAR(differential interferometric SAR) technique. The soil penetration depth changes according to soil moisture, that causes phase change of the received signal. The height of soil surface and its displacement can be detected by a radar interferometry technique using phase difference of two received signals. To retrieve displacement variation, one of three SAR images is used as a reference image. Reference image and other two images are processed by the differential interferometry technique in the same area. The soil moisture was measured for the test sites to verify the DInSAR technique. The penetration depth is calculated by using the in-situ measured soil moisture data and it is compared with the displacement values acquired by the DInSAR technique.
This study conducted numerical simulations using LES-WASS-3D ver. 2.0 to analyze the seawater intrusion characteristics of the incident waves in a coastal aquifer. LES-WASS-3D directly analyzed the nonlinear interaction between the seawater and freshwater in a coastal aquifer, as well as the wave-current interaction in the coastal area. First, the LES-WASS-3D results were compared with the existing experimental results for the mean water level under wave action in the coastal aquifer and seawater penetration into the coastal aquifer. The mean water level, shape and position of the seawater-freshwater interface, and intrusion distance were well implemented in the results. This confirmed the validity and effectiveness of LES-WASS-3D. The overall seawater penetration distance increases in the coastal aquifer as a result of wave set-up and run-up in the swash zone caused by continuous wave actions, and it increases with the wave height and period. Furthermore, a numerical verification was performed by comparing the suggested existing structure and newly suggested curtain wall as a measure against seawater penetration. An existing underground dam showed a better effect with increased height. Additionally, the suggested curtain wall had a better effect when the embedded depth was increased.

The breakup processes and spray plume characteristics of liquid jets injected in subsonic air cross-flows were experimentally studied. The behaviors of column, penetration, breakup of plain liquid jet and droplet sizes, velocities have been studied in non-swirling cross-flow of air. Nozzle has a 1.0 mm diameter and Lid ratio=5. Experimental results indicate that the breakup point is delayed by increasing air momentum, the penetration decreases by increasing Weber number and the split angle is increased by increasing air velocity or decreasing injection velocity. SMD increases according as increasing height or decreases in accordance with increasing air velocity. This phenomenon is related to the momentum exchange between column waves and cross-flow stream. Droplet vector velocities were varied from 11.5 to 33 m/s. A higher-velocity region can be identified in down edge region at Z/d=40, 70 and 100. Lower-velocity region were observed on bottom position of the spray plume.

Growth characteristics [stem diameter (D), tree height (H)] and wood properties [Pilodyn penetration (P) and stress-wave velocity (SWV)] were measured for 65 families of 6-year-old Acacia mangium trees planted in Indonesia, in order to characterize their variation in D, H, P, and SWV. Therefore, the correlations between the measured characteristics were also determined, and their significant differences observed. Furthermore, their low to moderate values of narrow-sense heritability was obtained, and the results indicated the characteristics to be genetically controlled in A. mangium. In addition, highly significant positive correlations were observed among the growth characteristics, suggesting a close relationship, while there was no significant association between the growth characteristics and P, as well as SWV, indicating their independent. Therefore, these results demonstrate a potential for the improvement of both growth and wood properties of A. mangium trees, using the appropriate breeding programs. In addition, 18 families showed good performance in D and SWV, signifying their positive prospect of being considered as plus trees for the next generation breeding cycles.
The present study investigates experimentally the characteristics of liquid jet, which is, the spray flow in the normal direction of the air stream under the flow conditions of air velocity $110\sim125m/s$. The present study adopts with the flow visualization technique using a short duration light bulb and the image processing analyse with CCD camera. Two types of injector were used: one is a flat plate type, and the other is backward facing step type, which height are 5, 8, 10mm. Dispersion of liquid jet can be represented by gray level of CCD camera. In the upstream of liquid jet, the backward facing step shows better liquid jet penetration. However, in the downstream. mean droplet size for backward facing step injector is smaller than that for flat plate injector
Experimental investigation of unsteady impinging diesel spray on the flat plate have been carried out using high speed camera and Malvern system. The density ratios of ambient gas to diesel fuel were varied using $N_2$ and Ar gas in the case of 14.9, 21.2, 28.4, 35.1, 40.4, and 50.1. With the increase of gas density ratio, the radial penetration is decreased due to the resistance of the ambient gas. With the increase of the gas density ratio and the distance between nozzle tip and flat plate, the height of spray is increased due to the entrance and circulation. With the increase of gas density ratio, SMD is decreased on the nearby position at the center of flat plate, but SMD is increased on the far position. As the distance between nozzle tip and flat plate is increased, SMD is always decreased.
This study was to evaluate GMA welding characteristics of the A15083-O aluminum alloy according to the shield gas mixing ratio and heat input change. The GMA welding of the base metal was carried out with flour different shield gas mixing ratios(Ar100%+He0%, Ar67%+He33%, Ar50%+He50%, and Ar33%+He67%). Regarding the if1uence on the bead shape of the shield gas mixing ratio and heat input, the bead width was greatest in Ar100%+He0% mixture. But the penetration depth and area were greatest in Ar33%+He67% mixture considering that the lower Ax gas ratio, the higher bead depth and area. Also, dilution was also best in the shield gas mixing ratio. The size and number of deflects were least in Ar33%+He67% mixture. Higher He gas ratio resulted in less deflects detected by the radiographic inspection.
Aluminum alloy, Al5083-O, is one of candidate materials for the LNG storage tank, because of its excellent weldability, cryogenic characteristics, and corrosion resistance. The good weldability of Al5083-O is very important in LNG storage tank manufacturing. In this study, high current metal inert gas(MIG) welding process was used to get one pass welding of thick plate aluminum alloy. Bead on plate(BOP) welding was performed to evaluate the effect of welding conditions on the height of bead and depth of penetration. The optimum welding conditions were derived to get one pass welding of the thickness of 14.5mm. The mechanical properties of the welded joint were evaluated. The cross-sectional macro test, tensile test, and bending test satisfied the class rule.
