  • As the importance of technology increases, so too does its use in various areas. In education, technology is often used. However, due to teachers' lack of knowledge about technology, they often remain at the level of simple utilization, without applying it to learning. Thus, there is a growing need for Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), which enables teachers to have knowledge about technology and use it appropriately given the content. Although TPACK studies are underway in many subjects, they suffer from the limited functionality of the included technology. To solve this problem, in this study, the range of technology in TPACK was extended to programming, and a TPACK-P model was developed to teach this expanded TPACK to pre-service teachers. To verify the effectiveness of this model, the TPACK-P training program developed during the 15th classes was applied to 19 pre-service teachers. We used Park and Kang (2014) as a tool to measure these teachers' TPACK before and after treatment to observe any changes. The results showed that the TPACK-P education program showed statistically significant improvement in all areas except Pedagogical Content Knowledge(PCK). Compared with the ICT-based TPACK training program, which was administered to a control group, the TPACK-P training program proved to be more effective in the development of Technological Pedagogical Knowledge(TPK) and TPACK among pre-service teachers.

  • The purpose of this study is to scrutinize the characteristics of a teacher's discursive competence on the basis of mathematical competencies. For this purpose, we observed all semester-long classes of a middle school teacher, who changed her own teaching methods for the last 20 years, collected video clips on them, and analyzed classroom discourse. Data analysis shows that in problem solving competency, she helped students focus on mathematically important components for problem understanding, and in reasoning competency, there was a discursive competence which articulated thinking processes for understanding the needs of mathematical justification. And in creativity and confluence competency, there was a discursive competence which developed class discussions by sharing peers' problem solving methods and encouraging students to apply alternative problem solving methods, whereas in communication competency, there was a discursive competency which explored mathematical relationships through the need for multiple mathematical representations and discussions about their differences. These results can provide concrete directions to developing curricula for future teacher education by suggesting ideas about how to combine practices with PCK needed for mathematics teaching.

  • This study examined pre-service teachers' pedagogical content knowledge of fraction division in a context where they were asked to write a story problem for a symbolic expression illustrating a whole number divided by a proper fraction. Problem-posing is an important instructional strategy with the potential to create meaningful contexts for learning mathematical concepts, especially when real-world applications are intended. In this study, story problems written by 135 elementary pre-service teachers were analyzed with respect to mathematical correctness. error types, and division models. Patterns and tendencies in elementary pre-service teachers' knowledge of fraction division were identified. Implicaitons for teaching and teacher education are discussed.

  • The difrrrenlial display reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (DDRT-PCR) aniilysis roils performed to identify the pathogellir strain specific amplicons. mRNAs were purified from the trophozoites of the pathogenif strain YS-27 and the non-pathogenic strain S 16. respectively. Three kinds of rirsl stranded rDNAs were reverse transcribed from the mRNAs by one base anchored oligo-dT 11M (M: A. C, or G) primers. Each cDNA lemplatr was used for DDRT-PCK analysis. A total of 144 pathogenic strain specific amplicons was observed in DDRT-PCR analysis using primer combinations of the 11 arbitrary primers and the 3 one base anchored oli해-dT11M primers. Of these 31 amplit'tons were verified as the amplirons amplified only from the mRNAs of the pathogenic strain by DNA slots biol llybridizatioil. Furthel cklaracleization of the 31 pathogenic strain sprcifil amplicons by DNA slot blot hybridlnation analysis using biotin labeled Probes or the PCR amplified DNA of rysteine proteinase genes revealed that 21 of them were amplliried from the maNAs of the cysteine proteinase genes. Four randomly selected amplirons out of the rest 10 amplirons were used fur screening of cDNA library followed by immunoscreening and all of them were turned outs to be amplified from the mRNA.

  • The aim was to examine resistance exercise-related genes after 8 weeks of resistance training. Thirty-two male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: 4 weeks sedentary (4 wks CON, n=8), 8 weeks sedentary (8 wks CON, n=8), 4 weeks exercise training (4 wks REG, n=8), and 8 weeks exercise training (8 wks REG, n=8). The rats were trained to climb a 1-m vertical incline (85-degree), with weights secured to their tails. They climbed 10 times, 3 days per week, for 8 consecutive weeks. Skeletal muscle was taken from the flexor halucis longus after the exercise training. After separating the total RNA, large-scale gene expression was investigated by beadarray (Illumina RatRef-12 Expression BeadChip) analysis, and qPCR was used to inspect the beadarray data and to analyze the RNA quantitatively. The detection p-value for the genes was p<0.01, the M-value {M=$log_2$(condition)-$log_2$(reference)} was >1.0, and the DiffScore was >20. In total, the expression of 30 genes significantly increased 4 weeks after the exercise training, and the expression of six genes decreased. At 8 weeks, the expression of five genes significantly increased and that of 12 decreased. Several genes are potentially involved in resistance exercise and muscle hypertrophy, including 1) regulation of cell growth (IGFBP1, PLA2G2A, OKL38); 2) myogenesis (CSRP3); 3) tissue regeneration and muscle development (MUSTN1, MYBPH); 4) hypertrophy (CYR61, ATF3, NR4A3); and 5) glucose metabolism (G6PC, PCK1). These results may help to explain previously reported physiological changes of the skeletal muscle and suggest new avenues for further investigation.

  • The purposes of the study were to analyze pre-service mathematics teachers' MKT and to examine the perceptions of MKT to find implications for the improvement of pre-service mathematics teacher education program in the aspect of teachers' content knowledge. Twenty-six pre-service mathematics teachers participated in the survey to examine the perceptions of MKT and they also finished two MKT tasks which focused on a specific area of middle school geometry. According to the survey results, the participants thought that they have enough knowledge in all categories of MKT except KCT-2 and they appreciated the importance of MKT education in pre-service mathematics teacher education program. However, the participants showed difficulties in MKT task items which required SCK, KCS, KCT, especially, the proportions of those who showed appropriate knowledge on the items required SCK and KCT was less than 50%. These results show disagreement between the perceptions of pre-service mathematics teachers' MKT and practice of MKT.

  • The concept of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) has been developed and expanded to identify essential components of mathematical knowledge for teaching (MKT) by Ball and her colleagues (2008). This study proposes an alternative perspective to view MKT focusing on key developmental understandings (KDUs) that carry through an instructional sequence, that are foundational for learning other ideas. In this study we provide constructive components of KDUs in fraction multiplication by focusing on the constructs of 'three-level-of-units structure' and 'recursive partitioning operation'. Expecially, our participating preservice elementary teacher, Jane, demonstrated that recursive partitioning operations with her length model played a significant role as a KDU in fraction multiplication.
