Treasures patterns are simplified designs of vessels used in everyday life, which were symbols of luck. Treasures patterns on textiles are largely assorted into four groups: eight auspicious patterns of Buddhism, eight immortal patterns of Taoism, seven treasures patterns of King Chakravarti in the Buddhist Scriptures and normal treasures patterns. Among them normal treasures patterns are most commonly used. Records in the Joseon documents show these patterns as being composed of seven treasures patterns or eight treasures patterns. But observation of the actual relics show that these patterns ranged from four to ten patterns. Korean traditional textiles treasures patterns began to appear in Korea on the relics of the last of Goryeo period. They were used as sub-patterns among main patterns of dynamically rising cloud patterns with five heads. Treasures patterns in the early Joseon period were commonly used as sub-patterns, and cloud and treasures pattern were prime examples of this. In the 16th century, lotus vine pattern, small flower vine pattern, or small flower pattern were often used as main patterns and treasures patterns were regularly used as sub-patterns. The robe of the Great Monk of Seo San was unique, in that both main and sub patterns consisted of the treasures patterns. From the 17th century, treasures patterns began to be used as main patterns. For example, a relic with eight alternatively arranged treasures patterns were found. Though there were still some cases where the patterns were used as sub-patterns, they begin to appear bigger than the previous period and became similar to main patterns in size. In the 18th and 19th centuries, there were various cases where treasures patterns were combined with flowers, fruits, animals, and letter patterns and used as main patterns. And there are many different methods of representing and developing the patterns.

The Purpose of this study is to analyze the kinds and positions of tattoo patterns on the body in tattoo-related internet communities and professional web sites. for this purpose, 1,892 tattoo patterns were analyzed by sex(man and woman). The results were as fellows; First, animal patterns(30.2%) occupied most, followed by character patterns(24.1%), geometric patterns(13.0%), natural patterns(10.3%), plant patterns(4.7%), mixed patterns(2.5%), and artificial patterns(2.2%). In patterns, dragon(10.3%) occupied most, followed by star(8.7%), trival(8.6%), woman(7.6%), skeleton(4.9%), and letter(4.8%). Second, men's preference to pattern groups included animal patterns(30.8%), character patterns (28.3%), geometric patterns (14.6%), and natural patterns(6.0%). Among patterns, dragon(13.4%) was the most frequent, followed by trival(10.9%), woman(10.7%), and skeleton(7.1%). Women's preference to patterns groups included animal patterns(31.4%), natural patterns(17.3%), character patterns(17.2%), geometric patterns(10.5%), and plant patterns(10.0%). Among patterns, star(15.3%) was the most frequent, followed by butter- fly(10.5%), elf(9.2%), and dragon(9.2%). Third, the positions of tattoos on the body included upper arm(26.6%), shoulder(10.8%), back(10.5%), the wrist(10.0%), the calf(7.5%), back bottom(7.0%) and the breast(6.3%). While men's preference to pattern positions included upper arm(38.2%), the wrist(13.7%), back(10.5%), the calf(9.4%), and shoulder(8.0%), women's preference to positions included back bottom(17.7%), shoulder(15.5%), back(10.5%), front bottom(8.2%), and the breast(7.8%).

The purpose of this study was to grasp the utilization of traditional Korean Patterns used for fashion cultural products. To achieve this purpose, this study examined the range of fashion cultural products through literature review, previous researches, and market surveys and analyzed the situation of fashion cultural products and the kinds, expression methods, expression techniques, and repeat styles of utilized patterns. The analysis results are as follows. First, in the use of traditional pattern, the most frequently-used fashion cultural products were small and inexpensive accessories, followed by fashion apparel, miscellaneous goods, and living cultural goods. Second, the most frequently-used traditional patterns were plant patterns, especially flower patterns. The next frequently-used ones were mixed patterns, especially in the mixture of flower and letter patterns, and $cloisonn\'{e}$ and flower patterns. The next frequently-used traditional patterns were animal patterns(especially butterfly patterns), followed by geometric patterns, lucky omen patterns, and letter patterns. In the expression methods of used patterns, most products except handicrafts preferred simplified patterns to real patterns. Finally, in the expression techniques of traditional patterns, the most frequently used technique was traditional embroidery, followed by the use of weaving fabrics such as fine gauze and brocade which are used for Hanbok. Also, transfer dyeing which is one of printing techniques, DTP(digital textiles printing), a mixed technique which adds embroidery to weaving fabrics, hand-painting, and a gilt technique were used. The results of this study suggest that most fashion cultural products except few designers' works attached weight to some specified patterns and expression techniques regardless of the characteristics of products since there is little understanding of a variety of patterns and are few researches and development on expression techniques.

All of 132 kinds of fabrics are used in excavated costume from the Dongrae Jung's Tomb. Classified by its materials, it is divided into small groups as follows: 58 pieces of silk tabby 43.9%, 2 of filament silk tabby 1.5%, 14 of thin filament silk tabby 10.6%, 19 of spun yarn silk 14.4%, 4 of twill without a pattern 3.0%, 8 of patterned silk tabby 6.1%, 23 of satin damask 17.4%, 1 of damask with supplementary gold thread 0.8%, 2 of mixture fabric with silk and cotton 1.5%, and 1 of ramie fabric 0.8%. Classified by ways of weaving: 96 pieces of plain weave 73%, 23 of satin weave 17%, 8 of patterned silk tabby consisting of plain weave material and twill weave pattern-6%, 4 of twill weave 3%, and 1 of compound weave 1 %. In point of patterns, the most often used ones are plant patterns such as lotus patterns, peony patterns, plum blossom patterns, flowers representing seasons patterns, and small flower patterns. For animal patterns, it has phoenix patterns designed together with flowers representing seasons patterns. And for natural scenery patterns, it shows cloud patterns with treasures patterns together. For object patterns, it also shows treasures patterns mixed with cloud or lotus together. For geometrical patterns, it has rhomboid patterns and 卍 character patterns; some show only rhomboid patterns and others show material patterns of 卍 character patterns blended together with fruit, lotus, etc.

A simple method for the fabrication of 3D micro-nano hybrid patterns was presented. In conventional fabrication methods of the micro-nano hybrid patterns, micro-patterns were firstly fabricated and then nano-patterns were formatted on the micro-patterns. Moreover, these micro-nano hybrid patterns could be fabricated on the flat substrate. In this paper, we suggested the fabrication method of 3D micro-nano hybrid patterns using micro-indentation on the anodized aluminum substrate. Since diameter of the hemispherical nano-pattern can be controlled by electrolyte and applied voltage in the anodizing process, we can easily fabricated nano-patterns of diameter of loom to 300nm. Nano-patterns were firstly formatted on the aluminum substrate, and then micro-patterns were fabricated by deforming the nano-patterned aluminum substrate. Hemispherical nano-patterns of diameter of 150nm were fabricated by anodizing process, and then micro-pyramid patterns of the side-length of $50{\mu}m$ were formatted on the nano-patterns using micro-indentation. Finally we successfully replicated 3D micro-nano hybrid patterns by hot-embossing process. 3D micro-nano hybrid patterns can be applied to nano-photonic device and nano-biochip application.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the aesthetic characteristics of traditional Korean patterns appearing on fashion collections from 1990 to 2005. Traditional Korean patterns have been used as an important element to express a Korean image since the 1990s. Frequently used patterns included several kinds of geometric patterns, plant patterns(flower, peony, Four Gracious Plants), and Chinese character patterns. Specifically, since the 2000s, animal patterns such as tiger, Chinese phoenix, and giraffe which were not often used, plant patterns such as arabesque, peony, and flower, and a variety of Chinese character patterns appeared. For the expression techniques, while embroidery and printing was often used in the 1990s, they became varied into printing, beading, embroidery, gold and silver leaf, and hand painting after 2000 as a result of designers' active attempts. The aesthetic characteristics of fashion design with its focus on traditional patterns were analyzed. First, Chinese character patterns and phoenix pattern which were mainly used for a court suit, and show the excellence and unique originality of Korean culture. Second, traditional Korean patterns directly and indirectly imply symbolistic significance of lucky sign and illustrate the use of various lucky sign patterns. Third, traditional Korean patterns such as arabesque or peony were expressed by colorful embroidery to add decorative beauty. Finally, traditional Korean patterns reflect a naturalistic worldview and are completed finished as the design.

A Beoseonbongip is a pouch that holds patterns for making Beoseons. This study aimed to identify the aesthetic and symbolic contents of the embroidery patterns by analyzing the kind, combination types, expression and arrangement types of patterns. In total, 140 Beoseonbongip artifacts, which were mostly made in the Joseon Dynasty, were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. The results indicated that about 83% of the total had flower patterns. Various kinds of embroidery patterns used for Beoseonbongips were newly identified. About 73% of the total had different kinds of patterns. Pattern combination types were identified by the kinds of patterns, the number of paired patterns, and the traditional painting styles used. The patterns of Beoseonbongips were expressed schematically more than realistically or abstractly. Beoseonbongips with different patterns on the four triangle tips of the front face and Beoseonbongips with the same/similar patterns on two opposite tips of the front face were observed more than the other types. On the back face, the embroidery patterns were symmetrically arranged, showing various division structures. It was inferred that wishes (e.g., marital harmony, fertility, good health and longevity, happiness, and wealth and fame) were expressed through the symbolic patterns embroidered on the Beoseonbongips. In terms of Korean traditional beauty, the union with nature, the harmony of yin and yang, symmetric balance, and neatness were also emphasized as a esthetic characteristics of Beoseonbongips.

This study analyzes the patterns of Baekje accessories, including pattern kinds, symbolic meanings and pattern types. And also this study shows the characteristics of accessory patterns and gives a chance for reflecting upon the patterns of Baekje costume. This study is qualitative research using documentary records related with the accessories of Baekje and evacuated data. The results of the study are as the followings: First, the kinds of patterns were classified four groups, floral, animal, geometrical and other patterns. Also, the symbolic meanings of its were authority, prolificacy, longevity and protection against evil spirit. Floral pattern was expressed most frequently. Second, the types of patterns were classified two groups, individual and compound type. Both of them was variously expressed. Third, The major material was copper with gold. Most work techniques were boring and hammering. The patterns were the composition of floral or animal patterns as a main design and geometrical patterns as a section or border design. Forth, the expressive characteristics of Baekje accessory patterns were to prefer floral patterns and to express symmetrical composition of patterns, therefore the patterns of Baekje accessories showed their esthetic sense like elegance, mild, serenity, a sense of stability and the sense of balance. In conclusion, the expressive characteristics of Baekje accessory patterns would be expressed on the Baekje costume.

Our study found that the types and forms of patterns of Japan, although they are similar to those of Korea and China, hold their own distinctive aesthetic awareness. They were made so, because the Japanese had not simply copied the patterns from other countries and also had changed them in various ways for ages. Especially, geometric patterns were widely used on some types of kimono costumes and belts in Edo period. One of the most widely used patterns was called Suk Chup Mun, and Tatewaku pattern was another. The San Gil Mun and Chil Bo Mun pattern was least used. In the patterns combination, that of animal and plant patterns was general. A single geometric pattern was not used, but if any, it was in Sima patterns and latticed patterns. On the other hand, the combination of geometric and plant patterns was more frequently used as composite patterns than any other pattern, such as geometric pattern with home tools, or one with animal patterns or nature patterns. The geometric patterns that had appeared in Edo period were combined in paintings along with animal and home tools patterns, so it could become a representative pattern of the age.

Patterns abstractly depicting flowing water with Chinese characters such as gong, wan(man), or wang continued endlessly and curved water patterns began appearing on textiles during the Song Dynasty. Though Song curved water patterns encompassed poetic sentiments such as "falling flowers and flowing water," the meaning faded with time, and these patterns were depicted in backgrounds with flowers added to brocade (Geum-sang-cheom-hwa). During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, combinations of diverse patterns, including flowers, butterflies, dragons, and auspicious treasures became fashionable, rather than the gong- and wan-shaped curved water patterns. Likewise, during the Joseon Dynasty, curved water patterns were preferred as background rather than as primary patterns. They were overlaid with flowers and clouds. The overlaid flower patterns included four-season flower patterns (17th-18th centuries), round flower patterns (19th century), and large flower patterns (20th century), which were identical to flower patterns fashionable at the time and arranged at intervals on complex curved water pattern backgrounds. In contrast, simple Ruyi types were more numerous than the four-Ruyi types fashionable at the time with regard to cloud patterns. Added here were Taiji (great ultimate symbol) or crane patterns, thus seeking to depict diverse auspicious Ruyi such as wish fulfillment and longevity.
