In this paper, we propose a face recognition method which is not sensitive to illumination change and prevents false recognition of photographs. The proposed method uses infrared and depth images at the same time, solves sensitivity of illumination change by infrared image, and prevents false recognition of two - dimensional image such as photograph by depth image. Face detection method using infrared and depth images simultaneously and feature extraction and matching method for face recognition are realized. Simulation results show that accuracy of face recognition is increased compared to conventional methods.
A modal parameter based damage sensitive feature (DSF) is defined to mimic the relative change in any diagonal element of the stiffness matrix of a model of a structure. The damage assessment is performed in a statistical pattern recognition framework using empirical complementary cumulative distribution functions (ECCDFs) of the DSFs extracted from measured operational vibration response data. Methods are discussed to perform probabilistic structural health assessment with respect to the following questions: (a) "Is there a change in the current state of the structure compared to the baseline state?", (b) "Does the change indicate a localized stiffness reduction or increase?", with the latter representing a situation of retrofitting operations, and (c) "What is the severity of the change in a probabilistic sense?". To identify a range of normal structural variations due to environmental and operational conditions, lower and upper bound ECCDFs are used to define the baseline structural state. Such an approach attempts to decouple "non-damage" related variations from damage induced changes, and account for the unknown environmental/operational conditions of the current state. The damage assessment procedure is discussed using numerical simulations of ambient vibration testing of a bridge deck system, as well as shake table experimental data from a 4-story steel frame.
Information technology improves convenience, safety, and performance of automobiles. Recently, a lot of algorithms are studied to provide safety and environment information for driving, and traffic sign recognition is one of them. It can provide important information for safety driving. In this paper, we propose a method for traffic sign detection and identification concentrating on reducing the computation time. First, potential traffic signs are segmented by color threshold, and a polygon approximation algorithm is used to detect appropriate polygons. The potential signs are compared with the template signs in the database using SURF and ORB feature matching method.

In this paper, we synthesized active sonar target signals based on highlights model, and then carried out target classification using the synthesized signals. If the target aspect angle is changed, the different signals are synthesized. To know the result, two different experiments are done. First, The classification results with respect to each aspect angle are shown. Second, the results in two group in aspect angle are acquired. Time domain feature extraction is done using matched filter and envelope detection. It shows the pattern of each highlights. Artificial neural networks and multi-class SVM are used for classifying target signals.

Recently, the necessity for good techniques of detecting network traffic attack has increased. In this paper, we suggest a new method of detecting abnormal patterns of network traffic data by visualizing their IP and port information into two dimensional images. The proposed approach first generates four 2D images from IP data of transmitters and receivers, and makes one 2D image from port data. Analyzing those images, it then extracts their major features such as linear patterns or high intensity values, and determines if traffic data contain DDoS or DoS Attacks. To comparatively evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we show that our abnormal pattern detection method outperforms the existing algorithm in terms of accuracy and speed.

Researches of face recognition on masked faces have been increasingly important due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To realize a stable and practical recognition performance, large amount of facial image data should be acquired for the purpose of training. However, it is difficult for the researchers to obtain masked face images for each human subject. This paper proposes a novel method to synthesize a face image and a virtual mask pattern. In this method, a pair of masked face image and unmasked face image, that are from a single human subject, is fed into a convolutional autoencoder as training data. This allows learning the geometric relationship between face and mask. In the inference step, for a unseen face image, the learned convolutional autoencoder generates a synthetic face image with a mask pattern. The proposed method is able to rapidly generate realistic masked face images. Also, it could be practical when compared to methods which rely on facial feature point detection.

In this paper, the spatiotemporal data mining methodology for detecting a cycle of power consumption pattern with the change of time and spatial was proposed, and applied to the power consumption data collected by GIS-AMR system with an aim to use its resulting knowledge in real world applications. First, partial clustering method was applied for cluster analysis concerned with the aim of customer's power consumption. Second, the patterns of customer's power consumption data which contain time and spatial attribute were detected by 3D cube mining method. Third, using the calendar pattern mining method for detection of cyclic patterns in the various time domains, the meanings and relationships of time attribute which is previously detected patterns were analyzed and predicted. For the evaluation of the proposed spatiotemporal data mining, we analyzed and predicted the power consumption patterns included the cycle of time and spatial feature from total 266,426 data of 3,256 customers with high power consumption from Jan. 2007 to Apr. 2007 supported by the GIS-AMR system in KEPRI. As a result of applying the proposed analysis methodology, cyclic patterns of each representative profiles of a group is identified on time and location.

The effectiveness of deep neural networks (DNNs) for detection and classification of micro-Doppler signals generated by human walking and background noise sources is investigated. Previous research included a complex process for extracting meaningful features that directly affect classifier performance, and this feature extraction is based on experiences and statistical analysis. However, because a DNN gradually reconstructs and generates features through a process of passing layers in a network, the preprocess for feature extraction is not required. Therefore, binary classifiers and multiclass classifiers were designed and analyzed in which multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) and DNNs were applied, and the effectiveness of DNNs for recognizing micro-Doppler signals was demonstrated. Experimental results showed that, in the case of MLPs, the classification accuracies of the binary classifier and the multiclass classifier were 90.3% and 86.1%, respectively, for the test dataset. In the case of DNNs, the classification accuracies of the binary classifier and the multiclass classifier were 97.3% and 96.1%, respectively, for the test dataset.
The nucleosomal organization of chromatin using histone proteins is a fundamental and ubiquitous feature of eukaryotic nuclei, with the major exception of dinoflagellates. Although a number of recent genomic and transcriptomic analyses have detected numerous histone genes in dinoflagellates, little is known about their expression. Here in, we aimed to investigate the expression pattern of histone genes under nutritional stress, and an attempt was made to detect histone expression at the protein level in Alexandrium pacificum. The presence of histones at the mRNA level was confirmed in this study by the amplification, cloning, and sequencing of 10 different genes. Relative expression profiling of these genes under different growth conditions was determined with real-time PCR and revealed considerable levels of histone transcription in nutritionally stressed cells. We were unable to detect the expression of histones at the protein level even after immunodetection and analysis using mass spectrometry, although a histone-like protein was detected as a major nuclear component. A. pacificum expresses multiple variants of histone, and protein sequences revealed both conservation and divergence with respect to other eukaryotes. We concluded that A. pacificum maintained an active transcription of histone genes within the cell, and enhanced expression of histone genes in nutritional stress strongly suggest that histones have functional significance in dinoflagellates, although expression at the protein level was below our current detection limits, which suggests a limited role of histones in DNA packaging. Finally, the plausible regulation of histone expression at the gene and protein levels in A. pacificum is discussed.

Despite the rapid development of sensors, structural health monitoring (SHM) still faces challenges in monitoring due to the degradation of devices and harsh environmental loads. These challenges can lead to measurement errors, missing data, or outliers, which can affect the accuracy and reliability of SHM systems. To address this problem, this study proposes a classification method that detects anomaly patterns in sensor data. The proposed classification method involves several steps. First, data scaling is conducted to adjust the scale of the raw data, which may have different magnitudes and ranges. This step ensures that the data is on the same scale, facilitating the comparison of data across different sensors. Next, informative features in the time and frequency domains are extracted and used as input for a deep neural network model. The model can effectively detect the most probable anomaly pattern, allowing for the timely identification of potential issues. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, it was applied to actual data obtained from a long-span cable-stayed bridge in China. The results of the study have successfully verified the proposed method's applicability to practical SHM systems for civil infrastructures. The method has the potential to significantly enhance the safety and reliability of civil infrastructures by detecting potential issues and anomalies at an early stage.
