Object:This study was to investigate the difference of speech perception ability in schizophrenic patients, and depression patients in order to explore trait-dependent speech perception ability of each disorder. Methods:The speech perception ability was assessed with masked speech tracking test(MST) in schizophrenic patients(N=31), depression patients(N=25), and normal controls(N=21). The continuous performance test(CPT) and sentence repetition test(SRT) were also used for assessment of attention and working memory. Results:The schizophrenic patients showed significant impaired MST performance, compared with depressive patients and normal controls. The performances of CPT and SRT were also more impaired in schizophrenic patients. The difference of MST performances between two patient group was cancelled out after consideration of differences in CPT & SRT performances. Conclusions:These results imply that schizophrenic patients have the impaired speech perception ability compared with depressive patients and normal controls. But speech perception ability was significantly influenced with CPT and SRT. For evaluation of pure speech perception ability, the more elaborate controlled study that excluded factors such as attention, working memory and intelligence is needed.
This study was aimed at investigating the relationship of stress perception and psychopathology with biological variables such as systolic and diastolic blood pressure. serum total cholesterol high density lipoprotein and triglyceride in 50 adult patients with essential hypertension and 50 normotensive individuals. Both of the groups were matched to each other regarding age, sex, the level of education and BMI(body mass index). Stress perception and psychopathology between the two groups were compared using GARS and SCL-90-R scales. Biological variables such as blood pressure(systolic. diastolic), serum total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein and triglyceride were measured in all the subjects. The results were as follows ; 1) Hypertensive patients scored significantly higher than normotensive individuals in stress perception related to unusual happenings, change or no change in routine and overall global area, respectively. 2) Regarding psychopathology, hypertensive patients scored significantly higher than normotensive individuals in depression. hostility and interpersonal sensitivity. respectively. 3) Systolic blood pressure had a significantly positive correlation with scores of stress perception related to sickness and injury, and change or no change in routine, respectively. Diastolic blood pressure had a significantly positive correlation with scores of stress perception related to change or no change in routine. 4) In hypertensive patients. the level of serum total cholesterol had a significantly positive correlation with scores of stress perception related to unusual happenings. However, the level of serum triglyceride had a significantly negative correlation with scores of stress perception related to changes in relationships, sickness or injury, and change or no chang in routine. 5) There were no significant correlations between scores of stress perception and biological factors in the normotensive group. 6) The level of serum triglyceride correlated negatively with phobic anxiety in hypertensive group. whereas it correlated positively with PSDI in normotensive group. In conclusion, these results suggest that hypertensive patients have higher level of stress perception and psychopathology than normal individuals. In hypertensive patients, their stress perception is suggested to be correlated with serum cholesterol.
Objectives: This study was performed to emphasize improvement of the perception of dental hygienists' environmental working conditions by analyzing various factors. Methods: Two hundred ninety-eight female dental hygienists working at 35 medical institutions in Daegu City and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province participated. A self-recording type survey was done in October 2016. Results: Factors influencing the perception of infection control was length of career. Dental hygienists with more experience have a higher level of perception. Factors influencing the perception of working posture was the number of patients per day and career level. Dental hygienists seeing 50 or fewer patients per day and senior staff showed higher levels of this perception. Factors influencing the perception of noise in the working area were length of career and lunchtime break. The perception level was high in the group with longer careers and dental hygienists who rest at lunch time. Factors influencing chemical exposure during work were the number of patients per day and the type of institute. Dental hygienists working in dental clinics or dealing with more patients had lower levels of perception. Conclusions: The sociodemographic and working characteristics of dental hygienists influence the perception of dental hygienists' environmental working conditions.
This study was attempted to investigate the main factors affecting health perception of the patients following cardiac valve replacement surgery. Data were collected from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31, 1984 through administration of questionnaire developed for this study by the researcher. The subject was 95 patients who received follow up care following cardiac valve replacemert surgery at S.N.U.H. The results were as follows. \circled1 Average self-health perception of those patients. were 4.62, (maximum; 7 minimum; 1) and they showed on affirmative response for their health condition, \circled2 There was significant difference in health perception according to sex difference. Men had higher health perception than women. (t=2,83, p=0.006) \circled3 There was significant difference in health perception according to occupation. Those who had occupation showed higher health perception those who had no occupation. (t=3.25, p=0.002) \circled4 The longer post-operative period elapsed, the higher health perception was, and there was significant difference in health perception (f=0.2958, p=0.002). \circled5 The higher age was, the lower health perception was, and there was a significant difference in health perception. (${\gamma}$= -0.2485, p=0.008) \circled6 The fewer subjective psychosomatic symptoms were, the higher health perception was, and there was a significant difference in health perception. (f = -0.4988, p=0.0000) \circled7 The more active daily activities were, the higher health perception was, and there was a significant difference in health perception. (${\gamma}$=0.6359 p=0.0000) \circled8 The main factors predicting health perception .are like these. \circled1 Daily activities (42.7%), highest variable. \circled2 Psychosomatic symptoms (7.29%) \circled3 Elapsed period after cardiac valve replacement surgery (1.89%) \circled4 Existence of occupation (1.87%) \circled5 Sex (1.78%) \circled6 Age (0.8%).
Purpose : This study aimed to evaluate the changes in visual perception and daily life activities after simultaneously applying the visual perception training program and transcranial DC stimulation. Particularly, this study tried to understand what changes in abilities among daily life activities influenced cognition. Methods : This study selected 50 dementia patients to achieve the objective. This study applied transcranial DC stimulation and a visual perception training program to a treatment group (n=25) and a visual perception training program to a control group (n=25). The intervention was applied five times per week and 30 minutes per session (total of 30 intervention sessions). This study measured visual perception functions and daily life activities using MVPT and FIM before and after applying the intervention. Results : The visual perception, mobility of daily life activities, cognition, and total score of the treatment group (n=25), which received the visual perception training program and transcranial DC at the same time, were significantly (p<.05) different between before and after the intervention. Moreover, when the visual perception and daily life activities of the treatment group and those of the control group after implementing the intervention were compared, they were significantly (p<.05) different between the two groups. Conclusion : The results of this study showed that the simultaneous application of the visual perception training program and transcranial DC stimulation was an effective means to enhance the visual perception and daily life activities of dementia patients. The results implied that transcranial DC stimulation, as well as the application of visual perception training program, as well as a visual perception training program, was effective for improving the visual perception functions and daily life activities dementia patients and simultaneous application of the two interventions would increase the effect even further.
Purpose: A descriptive study was conducted to examine the relationship of illness perception, self-efficacy, and self-care of patients who were diagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis. Methods: The study was conducted using a convenient sample from two hospitals in Incheon and Seoul. One hundred forty four patients completed a questionnaire which included questions on general characteristics, a Brief Illness Perception Scale, a Self-efficacy Scale and a Self-care Scale. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Moment Correlations and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results: There was a statistically significant positive correlation between illness perception and self-care (r=.335, p=.000) and between self-efficacy and self-care (r=.687, p=.000). Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that among the three variables the most powerful predictor was self-efficacy. Self-efficacy and illness perception were significant factors and accounted for 54.2% of the variance of self care in pulmonary tuberculosis patients. Conclusion: Self-efficacy and illness perception were influencing factors in self care among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Hence further interventional researches are needed that consider these two variables.
Stress perception was investigated in 53 outpatients with extrinsic type of bronchial asthma, using GARS scale and other questionnaires. 40% of the patients were found to be psychosomatic. The patients were more likely to consider their physical symptoms as severe than the allergist Severity of symptoms rated by the allergist had significantly positive correlation with scores of stress perception related to changes in relationship. However, no significant correlation was found between severity of symptoms rated by patients and scores of stress perception. Psychosomatic group was significantly higher in scores of stress perception related to illness and injury, financial burden, and change or no change in routine than non-psychosomatic group. Female. older age, higher education. presence of religion. and presence of psychological stressors at onset and/or aggravation of the illness were found to increase stress perception. These findings indicate ant extrinsic asthmatics an less likely to perceive psychological stress than physical symptoms, and that they are less vulnerable to psychological stressors than patients with other diseases.
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of illness perception on depression and quality of life in patients with hemodialysis. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study using structural equation modeling. Depression, quality of life and cognitive and emotional illness perceptions were measured by the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression-10 (CESD-10), Short Form-36 version 2 (SF-36v2), and Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (BIPQ) in 272 hemodialysis patients. Results: Prevalence of depression was 76.1%, and higher in female patients on hemodialysis. Cognitive illness perception had effect on depression and quality of life, while emotional illness perception had effect only on depression. Quality of life was explained 69.6% through depression (${\beta}=-.74$, t= -8.17) and cognitive illness perceptions (${\beta}=.21$, t= 3.06), while depression was explained 40.5% through cognitive (${\beta}=-.34$, t= -5.99) and emotional (${\beta}=.59$, t= 9.37) illness perceptions. Conclusion: In the inevitable choice of dialysis, illness perception could decrease depression and improve quality of life in hemodialysis patients.
In this study, we examined the effects of guardians' service quality perception(G-SQP) on patients' service quality perception(P-SQP) leading to patients' behavioral intention(P-BI) and the effects of G-SQP on guardians' behavioral intention(G-BI). To investigate the causalities of the variables, we collected national wide samples of 144 hospitals, 1456 patients and 1455 guardians of the patients and analyzed 1146 guardian-patient coupled cases refined with prerequisites such as missing value, outliers, normality and covariance conditions. Followed were contributions of the present study. First, G-SQP was a predictor of P-SQP. Second, in the first contribution statement, there was no statistically significant difference between inpatient and outpatient group. Third, proven was that G-SQP was a predictor of G-BI. Fourth, verified was that P-SQP was a predictor of P-BI. Fifth, G-SQP was a predictor of P-SQP being led to P-BI that meant P-SQP had a mediating role between G-SQP and P-BI. Since the guardians' perception affected patients' buying decision, the present study implied service managers of hospital settings should pay attention to guardians' perception of service quality as well as patients'. With such strategy, hospitals could improve financial performance in long-term.
