In this paper we study the Minimum Edge Addition Problem(MEAP) to decrease the diameter of a graph. MEAP can be used for improving the serviceability of telecommunication networks with a minimum investment. MEAP is an NP-hard optimization problem. We present two mathematical programming models : One is a multi-commodity flow formulation and the other is a path partition formulation. We propose a branch-and-price algorithm to solve the path partition formulation to the optimality. We develop a polynomial time column generation sub-routine conserving the mathematical structure of a sub problem for the path partition formulation. Computational experiments show that the path partition formulation is better than the multi-commodity flow formulation. The branch-and-price algorithm can find the optimal solutions for the immediate size graphs within reasonable time.

This paper presents precision machining of sculptured surfaces with a flat end cutter as follows; tool path generation using partition machining method and elimination interference. These days many researchers are getting interested in flat end cutter having a good cutting performance as machine tool for machining sculptured surfaces. It can get low curvature surfaces and have a much better material removal rates and longer tool life. Partition machining method is the first submitted in this paper. It is a new method of tool path generation, which means the way to map surfaces under the normal vector and then to cut them partially.
A parallel Monte Carlo photon migration algorithm for graphics processing units that implements an improved load-balancing strategy is presented. Conventional parallel Monte Carlo photon migration algorithms suffer from a computational bottleneck due to their reliance on a simple load-balancing strategy that does not take into account the different length of the mean free paths of the photons. In this paper, path-partition load balancing is proposed to eliminate this computational bottleneck based on a mathematical formula that parallelizes the photon path tracing process, which has previously been considered non-parallelizable. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested using three-dimensional photon migration simulations of a human skin model.

This paper suggests heuristic polynomial time algorithm for crew scheduling problem that is a kind of optimization problems. This problem has been solved by linear programming, set cover problem, set partition problem, column generation, etc. But the optimal solution has not been obtained by these methods. This paper sorts transit costs $c_{ij}$ to ascending order, and the task i and j crew paths are merged in case of the sum of operation time ${\Sigma}o$ is less than day working time T. As a result, we can be obtain the minimum number of crews $_{min}K$ and minimum transit cost $z=_{min}c_{ij}$. For the transit cost of specific number of crews $K(K>_{min}K)$, we delete the maximum $c_{ij}$ as much as the number of $K-_{min}K$, and to partition a crew path. For the 5 benchmark data, this algorithm can be gets less transit cost than state-of-the-art algorithms, and gets the minimum number of crews.
We propose a new method of path planning for cleaning robots. Path planning problem for cleaning robots is different from conventional path planning problems in which finding a collision-free trajectory from a start point to a goal point is focused. In the case of cleaning robots, however, a planned path should cover all area to be cleaned. To resolve this problem in a systematic way, we propose a method based on a graph model as follows: at first, partition a given map into proper regions, then transform a divided region to a vertex and a connectivity between regions to an edge of a graph. Finally, a region is divided into sub-regions so that the graph has a unary tree which is the simplest Hamilton path. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by computer simulation results.
This study compared and analyzed the spatial division function and role of partitions by comparing the entire space and the spatial changes before and after the installation of partitions in <Donggwoldo>, which was manufactured in the late Joseon Dynasty. As a research method, a set standard was prepared to decompose the space of <Donggwoldo> into a unit space, and the standard was set according to the role and height of the space by classifying it into a main space, sub space, and transition space. Two convex maps were prepared according to before and after the installation of the Panjang, and the values of connectivity, control, and integration, which are spatial syntax variables, were calculated and analyzed. The results of the study are as follows. First, the partition in <Donggwoldo(東闕圖)> did not affect the overall spatial arrangement and control or connection of Donggwol, but the movement and access of space is limited to specific areas. Second, the partition was a facility intensively distributed in Naejeon(內殿) and Donggung(東宮) to be used actively in the way of space utilization. It shows that the unit space increased rapidly due to the installation of the partition. Since the partition was installed in the spaces that were open and under high control in the case of Naejeon(內殿), it helped to secure private spaces as closed ones under low control. On the other hand, for Donggung(東宮), the spaces were compartmented and divided with the partition to guide the movement path through narrow gates of the partition and increase the depth of the space. This helped to create spaces that are free and can be hidden as it increased the number of spaces coming through. Third, In addition to the functions of "eye blocking, space division, and movement path control" revealed in prior research, the partition has created a "space that is easy to control" within a specific area. The installation of the partition reduced the scale through the separation of spaces, but it occurred the expansion of the movement path and space. Also, the partition functioned to strengthen hiding and closure or increase openness as well through space division. This study is significant in that it revealed the value of the spatial control function of panjang through the analysis of spatial control and depth by analyzing the function of the partition with a mathematical model in addition to the analysis and study of the function and role of panjang. In addition, it is valuable in that it has prepared a framework for analysis tools that can be applied to traditional residential complexes similar to palaces by applying space syntax to <Donggungdo> to create convex spaces according to unit space division and connection types of palace architecture and landscape elements.
Ad-hoc networks are temporary wireless systems composed of mobile nodes without any fixed infrastructure. The life time of each node in the ad-hoc network significantly affects the life time of whole ad-hoc network. A node which drained out its battery may incur the partition of whole network in some network topology The life time of each node depends on the battery capacity of each node. Therefore if all mobile nodes in the network live evenly long, the life time of the network will be longer. In this paper, we propose Power-Aware Dynamic Source Routing (PADSR) which selects the best path to make the life time of the network be longer. In PADSR, when a source node finds a path to the destination node, it selects the best path that makes nodes in the network live evenly long. To find the best path, PADSR considers the consumption of transmission energy and residual battery capacity of nodes upon the path. Consequently the network lives longer if we use PADSR.
Query languages for XML use paths in a data graph to represent queries. Actually, paths in a data graph are used as a basic constructor of an XML query. User can write more expressive Queries by using Patterns (e.g. regular expressions) for paths. There are many identical paths in a data graph because of the feature of semi-structured data. Current researches for indexing XML utilize identical paths in a data graph, but such an index can grow larger than source data graph and cannot guarantee efficient access path. In this paper we propose a partitioning technique that can partition all the paths in a data graph. We develop an index graph that can find appropriate partitions for a path query efficiently. The size of our index graph can be adjusted regardless of the source data. So, we can significantly improve the cost for index graph traversals. In the performance study, we show our index much faster than other graph based indexes.

Path finding and path planning is crucial in today's world where time is an extremely valuable element. It is easy to plan the optimum path to a destination if provided a map but the same cannot be said for an unknown and unexplored environment. It will surely be exhaustive to search and explore for paths to reach the destination, not to mention planning for the optimum path. This is very much similar to finding for an exit of a maze. A very popular competition designed to tackle the maze solving ability of autonomous called Micromouse will be used as a guideline for us to design our maze. There are numerous ways one can think of to solve a maze such as Dijkstra's algorithm, flood fill algorithm, modified flood fill algorithm, partition-central algorithm [1], and potential maze solving algorithm [2]. We will analyze these algorithms from various aspects such as maze solving ability, computational complexity, and also feasibility to be implemented.
