GPS-Based Shortest-Path Routing Scheme in Mobile Ad Hoc Network

  • A Mobile Ad Hoc NETwork (MANET) is a collection of wireless mobile nodes that forms a temporary network without the need for any existing network infrastructure or centralized administration. Therefore, such a network is designed to operate in a highly dynamic environment due to node mobility. In mobile ad hoc network, frequent topological changes cause routing a challenging problem and without the complete view of the network topology, establishing the shortest path from the source node to the destination node is difficult. In this paper, we suggest a routing approach which utilizes location information to setup the shortest possible path between the source node and the destination node. Location information is obtained through Global Positioning System (GPS) and this geographical coordinate information of the destination node is used by the source node and intermediate nodes receiving route request messages to determine the shortest path to the destination from current node.

MRFR - Multipath-based Routing Protocol with Fast-Recovery of Failures on MANETs

  • We propose a new multipath-based reliable routing protocol on MANETs, Multipath-based Reliable routing protocol with Fast-Recovery of failures (MRFR). For reliable message transmission, MRFR tries to find the most reliable path between a source and a destination considering the end-to-end packet reception reliability of the routes. The established path consists of a primary path that is used to transmit messages, and the secondary paths that are used to recover the path when detecting failures on the primary path. After establishing the path, the source transmits messages through the primary path. If a node detects a link failure during message transmission, it can recover the path locally by switching from the primary to the secondary path. By allowing the intermediate nodes to locally recover the route failure, the proposed protocol can handle the dynamic topological change of the MANETs efficiently. The simulation result using the QualNet simulator shows that the MRFR protocol performs better than other protocols in terms of the end-to-end message delivery ratio and fault-tolerance capability.

  • In this paper, path planning and tracking problems are mentioned to guarantee efficient and safe navigation of autonomous mobile robots. We focus on the path planning and also deal with the path tracking and obstacle avoidance. We improved the conventional distance transform (DT) algorithm for the path planning. Using the improved DT algorithm, we obtain paths with shorter distances compared to the conventional DT algorithm. In the stage of the Path tracking, we employ the fuzzy logic controller to conduct the path tracking behavior and obstacle avoidance behavior. Through computer simulation studies, we show the effectiveness of the Nosed navigational algorithm for autonomous mobile robots.

  • In conventional methods for car navigational path detection using Hough transform, navigational path deviation of a car is decided in car navigational images with simple background. But in case of car navigational images having complex background with obstacles on the road, shadows, other cars, and so on, it is very difficult to detect navigational path because these obstacles obstruct correct detection of car navigational path. In this paper, I proposed an effective navigational path detection method having better performance than conventional navigational path detection methods using Hough transform only, and fuzzy binarization method and Canny mask are applied in the proposed method for the better performance. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, I experimented with 20 car navigational images and verified the proposed method is more effective for detection of navigational path.

  • The subject of navigation has drawn a large interest in the last few years. Navigation problem (or path planning) finds the path between two points, source location and destination location. In smart cities, solving navigation problem is essential to all residents and visitors of such cities to guide them to move easily between locations. Also, the navigation problem is very important in case of moving robots that move around the city or part of it to get some certain tasks done such as delivering packages, delivering food, etc. In either case, solution to the navigation is essential. The core to navigation systems is the navigation algorithms they employ. Navigation algorithms can be classified into navigation algorithms that depend on maps and navigation without the use of maps. The map contains all available routes and its directions. In this proposal, we consider the first class. In this paper, we are interested in getting path planning solutions very fast. In doing so, we employ a parallel platform, Reconfigurable mesh (R-Mesh), to compute the path from source location to destination location. R-Mesh is a parallel platform that has very fast solutions to many problems and can be deployed in moving vehicles and moving robots. This paper presents two algorithms for path planning. The first assumes maps with linear streets. The second considers maps with branching streets. In both algorithms, the quality of the path is evaluated in terms of the length of the path and the number of turns in the path.

User Similarity-based Path Prediction Method (사용자 유사도 기반 경로 예측 기법)

  • A path prediction method using lifelog requires a large amount of training data for accurate path prediction, and the path prediction performance is degraded when the training data is insufficient. The lack of training data can be solved using data of other users having similar user movement patterns. Therefore, this paper proposes a path prediction algorithm based on user similarity. The proposed algorithm learns the path in a triple grid pattern and measures the similarity between users using the cosine similarity technique. Then, it predicts the path with applying measured similarity to the learned model. For the evaluation, we measure and compare the path prediction accuracy of proposed method with the existing algorithms. As a result, the proposed method has 66.6% accuracy, and it is evaluated that its accuracy is 1.8% higher than other methods.

A Path Finding Algorithm based on an Abstract Graph Created by Homogeneous Node Elimination Technique (동일 특성 노드 제거를 통한 추상 그래프 기반의 경로 탐색 알고리즘)

  • Generally, Path-finding algorithms which use heuristic function may occur a problem of the increase of exploring cost in case of that there is no way determined by heuristic function or there are 2 way more which have almost same cost. In this paper, we propose an abstract graph for path-finding with dynamic information. The abstract graph is a simple graph as real road network is abstracted. The abstract graph is created by fixed-size cells and real road network. Path-finding with the abstract graph is composed of two step searching, path-finding on the abstract graph and on the real road network. We performed path-finding algorithm with the abstract graph against A* algorithm based on fixed-size cells on road network that consists of 106,254 edges. In result of evaluation of performance, cost of exploring in path-finding with the abstract graph is about 3~30% less than A* algorithm based on fixed-size cells. Quality of path in path-finding with the abstract graph is, However, about 1.5~6.6% more than A* algorithm based on fixed-size cells because edges eliminated are not candidates for path-finding.

A Study on the Performance Analysis of an Extended Scan Path Architecture (확장된 스캔 경로 구조의 성능 평가에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose a ESP(Extended Scan Path) architecture for multi-board testing. The conventional architectures for board testing are single scan path and multi-scan path. In the single scan path architecture, the scan path for test data is just one chain. If the scan path is faulty due to short or open, the test data is not valid. In the multi-scan path architecture, there are additional signals in multi-board testing. So conventional architectures are not adopted to multi-board testing. In the case of the ESP architecture, even though scan path is either short or open, it doesn't affect remaining other scan paths. As a result of executing parallel BIST and IEEE 1149.1 boundary scan test by using the proposed ESP architecture, we observed that the test time is short compared with the single scan path architecture. By comparing the ESP architecture with single scan path responding to independency of scan path, test time and with multi-scan path responding to signal, synchronization, we showed that the architecture has improved results.
