  • Galvanic current measurement, polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and weight loss test were used to study the corrosion behavior of carbon steel before and after carbon fibers coupling to the carbon steel in simulated concrete pore solutions, and the film composition on the steel surface was analyzed using XPS method. The results indicate that passive film on steel surface had excellent protective property in pore solutions with different pH values (13.3, 12.5 and 11.6). After coupling with carbon fibers (the area ratio of carbon steel to carbon fiber was 12.31), charge transfer resistance $R_{ct}$ of the steel surface decreased and the $Fe^{3+}/Fe^{2+}$ value in passive film decreased. As a result, stability of the film decreased and the corrosion rate of steel increased. Decreasing of the area ratio of steel to carbon fiber from 12.3 to 6.15 resulted in the decrease in $R_{ct}$ and the increase in corrosion rate. Especially in the pore solution with pH 11.6, the coupling leads the carbon steel to corrode easily.

  • Purpose: This preliminary study investigated a potential of the water wall systems that provide heat storage and natural lighting control simultaneously. Method: In order for transparency of the water wall to be controlled, the study first proposed two measures: to adjust transparency of the water wall; to control transparency of water wall surface. The performance of two measures then was verified and compared by experiments. In addition, a trade-off between heat collect and heat storage resulting from using additive for adjusting transparency was investigated. Result: The experiment showed that the two measures are similar in performance. The investigation of trade-off relation showed the additive should have the same heat storage as the water to prevent decrease in thermal performance of the water wall. As an economical measure to control transparency of the water wall, this study suggested a measure of secondary heat transfer systems using shading device that first absorbs solar radiation and then transfers heat to the water wall. The experiment show that performance of the proposed measure is similar to controlling transparency of water wall surface. In conclusion, it is expected that the performance of the water wall can be economically maximized by using the proposed mean in terms of heating, cooling and lighting energy saving.

  • We use largely two methods, how to control the noise of the KTX, they are the passive noise control method and the active noise control method. The passive noise control has been used in a variety of ways since the KTX opening day, but lately it has shown the technical limitations by being dropped sharply. So, it is getting important to conduct the research about ANC that is able to reduce the ambient noise when the environmental-factor changes and be installed easily. To reduce a three-dimensional closed-space sound field like a car of a high-speed rail is hard to do using single channel ANC control system. Therefore we have to model the paths of the noise exactly for reducing the noise. And the control speakers and the error mics should be designed for optimal position. In this paper, we designed the transfer functions for modeling the noise paths under the influence of the distance between control speakers & error mics and primary noise speaker in TEST-BED where there is modeled as actual interior of KTX. We have made the modeling and the simulations of interior environment of KTX car by using three frequency bands of 120Hz, 280Hz, 360Hz. After the modeling, we compared the performance of active noise control and also we analyzed what to affect with difference in distance. After comparing of the performance using Pure Tone 120Hz, 280Hz, 360Hz at each modeling and then we simulated ANC for KTX's interior noise which we measured really and analyzed.

  • Vibration control using a tuned mass damper (TMD) is an effective technique that has been verified using analytical methods and experiments. It has been applied in mechanical, automotive, and structural applications. However, the damping of a TMD cannot be adjusted in real time. An excessive mass damper stroke may be introduced when the mass damper is subjected to a seismic excitation whose frequency content is within its operation range. The semi-active tuned mass damper (SATMD) has been proposed to solve this problem. The parameters of an SATMD can be adjusted in real time based on the measured structural responses and an appropriate control law. In this study, a stiffness-controllable TMD, called a leverage-type stiffness-controllable mass damper (LSCMD), is proposed and fabricated to verify its feasibility. The LSCMD contains a simple leverage mechanism and its stiffness can be altered by adjusting the pivot position. To determine the pivot position of the LSCMD in real time, a discrete-time direct output-feedback active control law that considers delay time is implemented. Moreover, an identification test for the transfer function of the pivot driving and control systems is proposed. The identification results demonstrate the target displacement can be achieved by the pivot displacement in 0-2 Hz range and the control delay time is about 0.1 s. A shaking-table test has been conducted to verify the theory and feasibility of the LSCMD. The comparisons of experimental and theoretical results of the LSCMD system show good consistency. It is shown that dynamic behavior of the LSCMD can be simulated correctly by the theoretical model and that the stiffness can be properly adjusted by the pivot position. Comparisons of experimental results of the LSCMD and passive TMD show the LSCMD with less demand on the mass damper stroke than that for the passive TMD.

  • This paper presents the window-based permit distribution scheme for efficient medium access control to support multiclass traffic in APON(ATM over passive optical network). The proposed MAC protocol considers the characteristics of QoS(Quality of Service) for various traffic classes. A periodic RAU(request access unit) in upstream direction, includes dedicative request fields for each traffic category within the request slot. The transmission of upstream cell is permitted by the proposed window-based spacing scheme which distributes the requested traffic into several segments in the unit of one spacing window. The delay sensitive traffic source such as CBR or VBR with the stringent requirements on CDV and delay, is allocated prior to any other class. In order to reduce the CDV, so that the permit arrival rate close to the cell arrival rate, Running-Window algorithm is applied to permit distribution processing for these classes. The ABR traffic, which has not-strict CDV or delay criteria, is allocated flexibly to the residual bandwidth in FIFO manner. UBR traffic is allocated with the lowest priority for the remaining capacity. The performance of proposed protocol is evaluated in terms of transfer delay and 1-point CDV according to various offered load. The simulation results show that our protocol has the prominent improvement on CDV and delay performance with compared to the previous protocol.

  • Accurate distance measurement between maneuver target in underwater and measuring devices is required to perform quantitative test evaluation in marine weapons system R&D process. In general, the target distance is measured using a one-way ToA (Time of Arrival) method that calculates the time difference between transmitted and received signals from the two accurately synchronized devices. However, the distance estimation performance is degraded because of the multi-path environments. In this paper, the time-variant transfer function of complex underwater environment is estimated from each received data frame using RBD (Ray-based Blind Deconvolution), and the estimated time-variant transfer function is then used to get rid of the effect about complex underwater environment and to recover the data signal using PTRM (Passive Time Reversal Mirror). The result from the simulation and experimental data show that the suggested method improve the distance estimation performance when comparing with the conventional ToA method.

  • Osseointegrated implant prostheses are to provide normal function without compromising the unique interaction between the tissue and the implant. The essential requirement for the osseointegrated implant prostheses is passive fit of abutment. Therefore, the impression must be accurate and reproduciable since the resultant master cast precisely duplicates the clinical condition. The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of the master casts obtained from five impression techniques. Group 1 : To take impression with indirect technique and Impregum F. Group 2 : To take impression with unsplinted direct technique and Impregum F. Group 3 : To take impression with splinted direct technique and Impregum F. Group 4 : To take impression with unsplinted direct technique and Xanthano. Group 5 : To take impression with splinted dierct technique and Xanthano. The results were as follow : 1. In taking impression of Impregum F, there was no significant difference between to use of indirect technique and unsplinted direct technique.(p<0.05) 2. Unsplinted direct technique with Impregum F is less accurate than splinted direct technique with Impregum F or Xanthano and unsplinted direct technique with Xanthano.(p<0.05). 3. There was no significant difference between splinted direct technique with Impregum F and unsplinted direct technique with Xanthano.(p<0.05) 4. Splinted direct technique reproduce more accurate than unsplinted direct technique.(p<0.05) 5. Impression plaster produced less distortion than polyether.(p<0.05) As a result, splinted direct technique with Xanthano was the most accurate technique. As a result, splinted direct technique with Xanthano was the most accurate technique in this study. In addition to dimensinal changes in the materials used, positional errors were also attributed to the mechanical components used in the transfer porocess. Although the errors measured were relatively small, this study demonstrates the potential for distortions with the transfer technique used. Further study is indicated that ?the technique will be able to reproduce the intraoral relationship of implant fixtures reliably and predictably.

  • Asynchronous Transfer Mode-Passive Optical Network(ATM-PON) Technology is one of the best solutions for implementation of broadband access network. In this paper, we propose a new Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) algorithm for ATM-PON systems. The DBA is a key technique for data traffic management. DBA has been studied widely to allow ATM-PON to transport data traffic cost-effectively and efficiently, and currently a hot standardization issue in Full Service Access Network(FSAN) and ITU-T. The proposed DBA algorithm efficiently manages the user traffics according to their service categories. Performance of the proposed algorithm, in aspect of Cell Transfer Delay(CTD) and Cell Delay Variation(CDV), is evaluated using computer simulation.

  • This paper describes an integrated low pass filter fabricated by using $0.8{\mu}m$ single poly CMOS ASIC technology. The filter has been designed for a 5th-order elliptic switched capacitor filter with cutoff frequency of 5khz, 0.1dB passband ripple. The filter consists of MOS swiches poly capacitors and five CMOS op-amps. For the realization of the SC filter, continuous time transfer function H(s) is obtained from LC passive type, and transfered as discrete time transfer H(z) through bilinear-z transform. Another filter has been designed by capacitor scaling for reduced chip area, considering dynamic range of the op-amp. The test results of two fabricated filters are cutoff frequency of 4.96~4.98khz, 35~38dB gain attenuation and 0.72~0.81dB passband ripple with the ${\pm}2.5V$power supply clock of 50KHz.

  • The process of dual spin turn maneuver is introduced for attitude acquisition or recovery from flat spin state of a satellite. The physical principle of momentum transfer during dual spin turn is explained clearly. The case studies of special dual spin turn, in addition to the conventional dual spin turn, that are known as an acceptable cases, are performed to investigate the principle of dual spin turn and to provide a physical insight as well as the solution of dual spin turn. This study is done based on case-study simulation, which includes two-state control scheme composed of open-loop maneuver and energy dissipation device. Furthermore, we investigate the stability for the verification of all control cases after implementing two-stage control. We also provide the simulation scenario of flat spin recovery using dual spin turn method as an example.
