Common Mode Noise Reduction for an LLC Resonant Converter by Using Passive Noise Cancellation

  • This paper describes the application of a passive noise cancellation method to a prototype inductor-inductor-capacitor (LLC) resonant converter by placing a compensation winding in a transformer to reduce common mode noise. The connection method for the compensation winding is investigated. A circuit analysis is implemented for the displacement currents between the primary and secondary windings in the transformer. The analyzed displacement currents are verified by performing a circuit simulation and a proper compensation winding connection that reduces common mode noise is found. The measurement results show that common mode noise is reduced effectively up to 20 dB in the 1 to 7 MHz frequency region for the prototype LLC resonant converter by using the proposed passive noise cancellation method.

  • The method of the reduction of the duct noise can be classified by the method of passive control and the method of active control. However, the passive control method has a demerit to reduce the effect of noise reduction at low frequency (below 500Hz) range and to be limited by a space. Whereas, the active control method can overcome the demerit of passive control method. The algorithm of active control is mostly used the Least-Mean-Square (LMS) algorithm because the LMS algorithm can easily obtain the complex transfer function in real-time. Especially, When the Filtered-X LMS (FXLMS) algorithm is applied to an ANC system.

  • The noise reduction performance of a passive facility is dependent on the its length or volume. In other words, this means that the larger the size of passive facility is, the better the noise reduction performance is. The sound directivity control has been proposed as an alternative for the noise reduction without a passive facility. The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between the flange attached to inclined exit of the tube and sound directivity when the sound radiates from the tube to the outside. As a result, the sound radiated from flanged tube had weak sound directivity in the wide angle. Also as the flange was bigger, the sound pressure level was lower in the behind the flange.

  • The method of the reducing duct noise can be classified by passive and active control techniques. However, passive control has a limited effect of noise reduction at low frequencies (below 500Hz) and is limited by the space. On the other hand, active control can overcome these passive control limitations. The active control technique mostly uses the Least-Mean-Square (LMS) algorithm, because the LMS algorithm can easily obtain the complex transfer function in real-time particularly when the Filtered-X LMS (FXLMS) algorithm is applied to an active noise control (ANC) system. However, the convergence performance of the LMS algorithm decreases slightly so it may delay the convergence time when the FXLMS algorithm is applied to the active control of duct noise. Thus the Co-FXLMS algorithm was developed to improve the control performance in order to solve this problem. The Co-FXLMS algorithm is realized by using an estimate of the cross correlation between the adaptation error and the filtered input signal to control the step size. In this paper, the performance of the Co-FXLMS algorithm is presented in comparison with the FXLMS algorithm. Simulation results show that active noise control using Co-FXLMS is effective in reducing duct noise.

  • 우리 나라 주변어장에서의 주요 어자원중 조기류가 수동어탑을 위한 대표적 어종으로 부각되었다. 음원수준을 150~180dB로 가정했을 때 선배열 형의 수동어탐기에 탐지될 수 있는 거리는 최저 3km에서 최대 20km 이상으로 추정되어 어탐거리의 획기적 증대가 기대된다. 뿐만 아니라 조기류가 내는 700~800Hz 사이의 tocal noise의 특성은 수동형 어탐기에 의한 어종식별 거리 및 정밀도를 보다 향상시킬 것임이 분명하다. 다만, 이 수동소나를 조기류외에 대형어군을 이루는 멸치, 칼치, 명태류, 쥐취류, 오징어 등에 적용 여부를 가늠하기에는 보다 많은 정량적 자료가 수집된 연후에 가능할 것으로 믿어진다.

  • In this paper, the transmitted noise reduction of smart panels of which passive piezoelectric shunt damping is used, is experimentally studied. Shunt damping experiments are based on the measured electrical impedance model. A passive shunt circuit composed of inductor, and load resistor is devised to dissipate the maximum energy into the joule heat energy For multi mode shunt damping, the shunt circuit is redesigned by adding a blocking circuit.   • This paper presents quasi-zero-stiffness (QZS) characteristic of a passive isolator using flexures under compression force. The passive isolator consists of a positive stiffness element (a vertical coil spring) and a negative stiffness element (flexures under compression force), and their proper combination of the positive and negative stiffness elements can produce both substantial static and zero dynamic stiffness, so called QZS. Firstly, a nonlinear dimensionless expression of a flexure under compression force is derived. A dynamic model of the passive isolator is developed and numerical simulations of its time and frequency response are performed. Then, undesirable nonlinear vibration is quantified using a period doubling bifurcation diagram and a Poincare's map of the isolator under forced excitation. Finally, experiments are performed to validate the QZS characteristic of the passive isolator.

  • A new mechanical-electrical hybrid passive damping treatment is proposed to improve the performance of structural vibration control. The proposed hybrid passive damping system consists of a constrained layer damping treatment and a shunt circuit. In a passive mechanical constrained layer damping, a viscoelastic material damping layer is used to control the structural vibration modes in high frequency range. The passive electrical damping is designed for targeting the nitration amplitude in the low frequency range. The governing equations of motion are derived through the Hamilton's principle. The obtained mathematical model Is validated experimentally. The presented theoretical and experimental techniques provide invaluable tools for controlling the multiple modes of a vibrating structure over a wide frequency band.

  • Dynamic characteristics of smart laminated composite plates with passive constrained layer damping have been investigated to design structure with maximum possible damping capacity. The equations of motion are derived fur flexural vibrations of symmetrical, multi-layer laminated plates.
