  • The robot mechanisms that were previously researched had only been conducted for the purpose of overcoming the obstacles stably at low speed driving and enhancing the stability against high speed circuitous driving, and yet, the mechanism satisfying two purposes. However, in order to stably drive with high speed on rough terrain, there is a need for satisfying both of these purposes, as well as testing the efficiency of the mechanisms at high speed driving. There, this paper simulated some of the passive mechanisms and focused on checking the performances of passive mechanisms through simulations and analyzing each mechanism on the basis of an evaluation index. The simulation was conducted by Adams (The Multi-body Dynamics Simulation Solution) and used various types of passive mechanisms which were introduced in the robotics field. As a result, the study confirmed that passive mechanisms have a number of situations that affect the driving stability on each direction of roll and pitch. Further study is needed about active mechanism.

  • A hardware architecture is presented of a wavelet based multiple line addressing driving scheme for passive matrix displays using the FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays), which will be integrated in the scalable video coding $architecture^{[1]}$. The incoming compressed video data stream will then directly be transformed to the required column voltages by the hardware architecture without the need of employing the video decompression.

  • The semi-active suspension system is getting widely adopted in passenger vehicles for its ability to improve ride comfort over the passive suspension system while not degrading driving safety. A key to the success is to develop practical controllers that yield performance enhancement over the passive damper under various driving conditions. To this end, several control strategies have been studied and evaluated in this research in consideration of practical aspects such as nonlinearity and dynamics of the damper. From simulation results. it has been observed that, with the proposed control schemes, ride comfort can be significantly upgraded while suppressing degradation of driving safety.

  • This paper will review the driving methods and issues of driving circuitry for passive matrix organic electro-luminescent displays(PM-OELDs). And it will shows the proposed one-chip and two-chip solution for driving the PM-OELDs and also the pixel structure and driving methods of active matrix (AM-OELDs). We will discuss the proper applications of OELDs with its power consumption by comparison with that of LCD.

  • This paper presents a novel low power driving circuit for passive matrix organic lighting emitting diodes (OLED) displays. The proposed driving method for a low power OLED driving circuit which reduce large parasitic capacitance in OLED panel only use current driving method, instead of mixed mode driving method which uses voltage pre-charge technique. The driving circuit is implemented to one chip using 0.35${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS process with 18V high voltage devices and it is applicable to 96(R.G.B)X64, 65K color OLED displays for mobile phone application. The maximum switching power dissipation of driving power dissipation is 5.7mW and it is 4% of that of the conventional driving circuit.

  • There is an increasing interest in passive safety systems to minimize the need for operator intervention or external power sources in nuclear power plants. Because a passive system has a weak driving force, there is greater uncertainty in the performance compared with an active system. In previous studies, several methods have been suggested to evaluate passive system reliability, and many of them estimated the failure probability using thermal-hydraulic analyses and the Monte Carlo method. However, if the functional failure of a passive system is rare, it is difficult to estimate the failure probability using conventional methods owing to their high computational time. In this paper, a procedure for the application of the Chernoff bound to the evaluation of passive system reliability is proposed. A feasibility study of the procedure was conducted on a passive decay heat removal system of a micro modular reactor in its conceptual design phase, and it was demonstrated that the passive system reliability can be evaluated without performing a large number of thermal-hydraulic analyses or Monte Carlo simulations when the system has a small failure probability. Accordingly, the advantages and constraints of applying the Chernoff bound for passive system reliability evaluation are discussed in this paper.

  • This paper presents the quantitative evaluation of the fearfulness of the human driver in the case of the short range (time) on the highway. The driving situation is realized by using the driving simulator based on CAVE, which provides three-dimensional stereoscopic immersive visual information. The examinees' responses and personal information are categorized reasonably by applying the competitive learning algorithm. The characteristics of each group are analyzed. The following two situations are also compared: (1) the active approaching situation where the examinee drives the vehicle near the preceding vehicle, and (2) the passive approaching situation where the preceding vehicle nears the examinee's vehicle by gradually decelerating. The range time that the examinee feels fear in the active approaching case tends to be shorter than that in the passive approaching case.

  • We have developed a paper-like display using polymer particles charged triboelectrically. By using a toner-type display with a simple structure, we continued that polymer particle movement is controlled by only a voltage difference between scan and data electrode. We fabricated a diagonal 2.4 inch panel on the glass substrate and successfully produced an image by the passive driving method with operating voltages of about ${\pm}$ 120 V. The contrast ratio was 4:1.

  • Passive suspensions with fixed design constants are very restrictive in the inherent suspension problem, the trade-off between the ride quality and the suspension travel. Active suspensions are used to solve some drawbacks of passive suspensions. In this paper, we propose a controller design for vehicle active suspensions considering variable driving conditions. Our controller estimates the current driving conditions by detecting the road frequencies gotten from Fourier Transform and decides which factor must be emphasized between the ride quality and the suspension travel. In one case of focusing on the ride quality, we use the skyhook control law and in the other case of focusing on the suspension travel, the double skyhook control law is used. The control law modified by various road situations outputs the reference force value the electro-hydraulic actuator in active suspension system must generate. To track the reference force, we adopt the sliding control law which is very useful in controlling the nonlinear system like the electro-hydraulic actuator.
