  • An efficient and general numerical strategy for fluid-structure interaction problems is presented where either the fluid or the structure part are represented by nonlinear models. This partitioned strategy is implemented under the form of code coupling that allows to (re)-use previous made developments in a more general multi-physics context. This strategy and its numerical implementation is verified on classical fluid-structure interaction benchmarks, and then applied to the impact of tsunamis waves on submerged structures.

  • The corporate credit rating represents an assessment of the relative level of risk associated with the timely payments required by the debt obligation. In this study, the corporate credit rating model employs artificial intelligence methods including Neural Network (NN) and Case-Based Reasoning (CBR). At first we suggest three classification models, as partitioned neural networks, all of which convert multi-group classification problems into two group classification ones: Ordinal Pairwise Partitioning (OPP) model, binary classification model and simple classification model. The experimental results show that the partitioned NN outperformed the conventional NN. In addition, we put to use CBR that is widely used recently as a problem-solving and learning tool both in academic and business areas. With an advantage of the easiness in model design compared to a NN model, the CBR model proves itself to have good classification capability through the highest hit ratio in the corporate credit rating.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between children's aggression, their anger regulation strategy and anger regulation degree. Using an aggression scale, a total of 428 elementary school children in grades 5 and 6 were examined and partitioned into two groups; -the high aggression group (n = 107) and low aggression group (n = 109). They rated the degree to which they felt anger in anger events. They selected one strategy used to regulate anger. Then they rated the degree to which they felt anger after using the selected regulation strategy. The results of this study showed that the high aggression group responded by high degree of anger, low degree of anger regulation and used more affect diffusion strategy. Regardless of children's aggression source, support pursuit strategy was confirmed to be the most effective remedial method while children regulated anger in anger events.

  • Purpose - This study proposes a framework for service innovation strategy to cope with the emergence of electric vehicles. Research design, data, and methodology - This study designs an electric-vehicle lease program and collects the resulting data to analyze. By analyzing the previous studies on the electric-vehicle market with cases, a theoretical framework based on existing theories is to be set. Results - This study proposes a strategy for the rapid diffusion of electric vehicles. First, a partitioned-pricing system is proposed to create an advantage for electric vehicles in terms of initial purchasing cost relative to traditional internal combustion vehicles. Second, focusing on reducing switching costs is important because electric vehicles have relatively low resale values due to the uncertainty of battery life. Third, a battery-leasing strategy is supposed to reduce the cost of switching from a traditional internal combustion vehicle to an electric vehicle. Conclusions - This paper can provide strategic guidance for decision makers in firms that have already entered the electric-vehicle leasing market by making a recommendation such as a service innovation strategy. The proposed strategy can be considered as an electric vehicle market in the future and can contribute to the wider diffusion of electric vehicles.

  • One of the hardest problems that limit real application of production system is its slowness. One way to overcome this problem is to speed up the matching operation which occupies more than 90% of the total execution time. In this paper, we try to speed up the matching operation with parallel execution of a typical pattern matching algorithm, RETE, in a multiprocessor environment, This requires not only to make partitions of the rules but also to allocate the partitioned rules to processors, respectively. A partition strategy is proposed to make groups of similar rules by evaluating the similarity of rules according to the number of common conditions between rules. An allocation strategy is proposed to make the load of each processor even by assigning the different priority to the group of rules according to the expected amount of time required for matching operation. To compare with the existing methods, we perform simulation using OPS5 sample programs. The simulation results show that the proposed methods can improve the performance of production system.

  • As XML documents have much richer information than plain texts, we can perform very elaborated, fine-grained search which was difficult in past years. However, as the cost of finer grained element level search is very high, the processing overhead has become a new challenge. We propose an inverted index structure called PIX, which reduces the number of elements processed by partitioning elements according to their match potentiality. We choose a base level and partition elements according to whether they have possibility of having a common ancestor higher than the level. We also propose partition merging technique by which we can get same results as unpartitioned case. Our experimental results show that the index partitioning strategy can reduce processing time considerably.

  • This paper presents an integrated object-oriented database approach for managing the evolution of products in agile manufacturing environments, Schema evolution modification facilities are provided to support full potential versioning of type definitions. All of the possible versions for a composite product are not explicitly represented to avoid version proliferation. However, valid configurations of any composite products can be provided to comply with customer demands, The attributes of composite products are classified in order to provide well-defined representation scheme for composite products and to be exploited in version control. The attributes are partitioned into composite-related and non composite-related categories. Composite-related attributes consist of subproducts and description ones. Subproducts attributes represent physical constituents of a composite product. Description attributes represent external features, assembling, and correspondence property. Interface attributes are introduced for managing configurability and version propagation. Version derivations due to the changes to the interface attributes are propagated toward the product composition hierarchy, The validity of configurations of composite products is checked by using configurability maps. Instance objects which represent the actual product instances are stored and manipulated in the database in order to support traceability during product life cycle.

  • This study is concerned with developing a heuristic for a web-based vehicle routing problem using mixed genetic algorithm(VRPMGA) which determines each vehicle route in order to minimize the transportation costs, subject to meeting the demands of all delivery points. VRP is known to be NP-hard, and it needs a lot of computing time to get the optimal solution, so that heuristics are more frequently developed than optimal algorithms. This study aims to develop a mixed genetic algorithm by partitioned strategy which can give a good solution in comparatively brief time. The good features of the VRPMGA are, fristly, the ability of early convergence and, secondly, the capability of producing multiple, alternative, and near-optimal solutions. The VRPMGA is a useful algorithm that can be appliable to VRP and TSP. Finally, the computational test were performed using the benchmark problems and the proposed heuristic is compared with the other existing algorithms (COSA). The result of computational tests shows that proposed heuristic gives good solutions, in much shorter time, which are same as the best known solutions in the pervious research.

  • The interconnection network is an integral part of parallel processing system. The multistage interconnection networks(MINs) have been the objects of intense research in recent years. In this paper, simulation techniques for circuit switchign MIN are extended to allow the performance evaluation of partitioned ADM/IADM network. Based on simulation data, the relationship between the netwrok performance, the partitioning scheme employed, and the conflict resolution strategies used within the network is enumerated. It is shown that IADM network coupled with the use of the hold strategy produces the best network operation in terms of RST (Request Service Time).

  • This paper presents a fully coupled three-dimensional solver for the analysis of interaction between pulsatile flow and large deformation structure. A partitioned time marching algorithm is employed for the solution of the time dependent coupled discretised problem, enabling the use of highly developed, robust and well-tested solvers for each field. Conservative transfer of information at the fluid-structure interface is combined with an effective multi-predict-correct iterative scheme to enable implicit coupling of the interacting fields at each time increment. The three-dimensional unsteady incompressible fluid is solved using a powerful implicit time stepping technique and an ALE formulation for moving boundaries with second-order time accurate is used. A full spectrum of total variational diminishing (TVD) schemes in unstructured grids is allowed implementation for the advection terms and finite element shape functions are used to evaluate the solution and its variation within mesh elements. A finite element dynamic analysis of the highly deformable structure is carried out with a numerical strategy combining the implicit Newmark time integration algorithm with a Newton-Raphson second-order optimisation method. The proposed model is used to predict the wave flow fields of a particular flow-induced vibrational phenomenon, and comparison of the numerical results with available experimental data validates the methodology and assesses its accuracy. Another test case about three-dimensional biomedical model with pulsatile inflow is presented to benchmark the algorithm and to demonstrate the potential applications of this method.
