  • Charged particle type display using particles which have opposite charge and color is based on effect of reversible optical property due to electric field. we designed mask pattern for fabrication of the charged particle type display based on glass substrate and investigated cell gap dependent of driving voltage and selectively driving method. the panel driven by our selectively driving method, we could obtain image which had vary little crosstalk caused by electrical interference and conform the last image maintained by memory effect without additional voltage.

  • The structural properties of cellulose are significantly changed with the progress of hydrolysis reaction. The effects of changes on such properties of cellulosic substrate as crystallinity, amicessibility of enzyme to the active site of cellulose surface, and particle size on the kinetics of enzymatic hydrolysis have been studied. Among those physical studies, the apparent surface active site of cellulose particle was found to have the most significant effect on the hydrolysis kinetics. Based on the experimental results, the adsorption affinity of enzyme and hydrolysis rate were mainly influenced by the surface roughness of cellulose particle. The extent of accesssible active site may be expressed as the change of particle diameter. The Langmuir isotherm was proposed in terms of enzyme activity to explain the actual action of enzyme protein.

  • Particle size of the cement raw materials is important not only in clinker burning but also in cement productivity. Model experiment was designed to investigate the effect of compressive grinding on cement raw materials and clinker granule. Compressive grinding was more efficient in reducing hard materials like quartz. Regression model was constructed to explain the effect of compressive grinding on the size reduction of cement raw materials and clinker.

반연속식 노말브틸-아크릴레이트/메틸메타-아크릴레이트 유화중합(1) : 폴리머 라텍스의 수율과 입자크기에 관한 계면활성제 종류의 영향 (Effect of Surfactant Type on the Particle Size and Yield in Semi-Continuous Emulsion Polymerization of n-Butyl Acrylate/Methyl Metacrylate)

  • 본 연구는 모노머로 메틸메타 아크릴레이트와 노말부틸 아크릴레이트를 사용하여 수용액상에서 반연속식 유화중합을 실시하여 안정성이 우수한 폴리머 시멘트용 아크릴계 폴리머 에멀젼을 제조하기 위해 최종 폴리머 에멀젼의 평균 입자크기 및 농도에 관한 계면활성제의 영향을 고찰하였다. 실험결과, 사용한 비이온 계면활성제에 관한 폴리머 에멀젼의 농도는 LE-50, NP-50 > CE-50, Tween 20 > TX-405 > Brij 35 순으로 최종 폴리머 응석에 기인하여 낮아졌으며, 평균 입자크기도 작아지는 경향을 나타내었다. 또한 LE형과 NP형 비이온 계면활성제는 친수성 체인의 길이(n)가 증가할 수 록 응석의 발생이 거의 없는 안정한 폴리머 에멀젼을 얻을 수 있었으며, n = 30이상의 체인에서 평균입자크기는 250 - 320 nm, 폴리머 농도는 수용액 기준으로 40 %를 얻을 수 있었다. 반응초기에 반응기에 투입 (Initial reactor charge)한 계면활성제 종류의 영향은 음이온 계면활성제인 SDS를 사용한 경우에는 사용량에 무관하게 폴리머 에멀젼의 농도는 거의 일정하였으나, 양이온 계면활성제인 CTAB와 반응형 계면활성제인 HN-100의 경우에는 폴리머 에멀젼 농도가 낮아지는 경향을 나타내었다. 반면에 평균 입자크기는 SDS < CTAB < HN-100 순으로 커지는 경향이었다.

  • The microstructures of sintered products of $Fe_2O_3$or $Fe_3O_4$-Oxide added cast iron powder was investigated. And the effects of particle size distribution was investigated too. As the result, the structures of sintered products did not related to the species of Fe-Oxide. Th porosity of sintered products was decreased in size and spherodized with increasing sintering temperature, decreasing Fe-Oxide quantity. Fe-Oxide itself did not hinder sintering of cast iron powder particularly, therefore sintering could be occurred without termination of reduction of it. And the sintered products of finer particle size distribution had finer and more spherodized porosity, and had minimized the deviation of size and shape of porosity.

  • Monodisperse polymer particles have many industrial applications such as surface coatings for metal panels, chromatographic media, spacers for liquid crystal display panel, and fillers for cosmetics, etc.. Micron-size monodispersed poly(methyl methacrylate) particles were prepared by dispersion polymerization in methanol medium in the presence of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) and 2,2'-azobis(isobutyronitrile) as steric stabilizer and initiator, respectively. Effects of polymerization parameters, such as monomer and initiator concentration, stabilizer type and concentration, solvent composition on average particle size and size distribution were studied.

Tracer diffusion in a polymer network: influence of network flexibility

  • We present a Brownian dynamics simulation study on the diffusion of a neutral tracer particle confined in a regularly crosslinked polymer network, especially, when the tracer size is comparable to the mesh size of the network. Polymer networks with different mesh sizes are prepared and compressed to the extent that the total polymer densities become the same. Irrespective of the network mesh size, the tracer diffusion in the networks is slowed down, showing the subdiffusion on intermediate time scales followed by the normal diffusion at long times. However, the confinement effect on the tracer diffusion becomes more significant when network strands are tightly stretched with smaller mesh size. The time scales of dynamic transitions are analyzed in terms of the probability distribution of time-correlated particle displacements.

갭 입도 변화에 따른 사질토의 지지력 향상 효과 (Effect of Gap grade on Shear Strength of sandy soil)

  • 입도분포가 다양한 입자크기로 이루어져 있는 지반은 일반적으로 지반의 강도가 좋다. 입도분포가 다양하지 않음에도 충분한 지지력을 가지고 있는 지반이 더러 있는데, 이러한 지반의 특징은 Gap 입도로 분포되어 있다는 것이다. 이를 바탕으로 유추하여보면 입자의 크기가 다양하지 않더라도 적절한 입도의 배치를 통해 강한 지반이 조성될 수 있음을 알 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 임의로 조성한 Gap 입도시료와 well, uniform 입도시료와의 내부마찰각의 변화에 대하여 고찰하였다. 큰 입자와 작은 입자 크기의 비율에 따라서 시료를 조성한 후 직접전단시험을 수행하여 지반의 강도정수를 구하고 결과를 비교 분석하였다. 연구결과 시료의 입자크기비와 내부마찰각을 연관시킬 수 있었으며 입도의 분포가 Gap이라고 하더라도 주어진 조건에서 가장 큰 입자 크기비를 가지고 있는 시료가 다양한 입도분포의 시료보다 큰 마찰력을 가질 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 중간입자크기를 가지고 있는 시료로 조성한 uniform시료보다도 같은 입자 크기의 Gap 입도 시료가 더 큰 강도를 지니고 있었다. 비교적 간단한 입도의 조정만으로도 대상 지반의 강도를 추가적으로 증대시킬 수 있는 공법개발의 기초를 확립하였다.

  • 수열합성법을 이용한 $\alpha$-$SiO_2$ 단결정 분말 제조시 교반의 추가와 승온속도의 변화가 입자의 결정성, 입도분포 및 평균입경에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. KOH를 광화제로 사용하였으며, $350^{\circ}C$에서 3시간 동안 반응을 시켜 평균입자 크기가 1~3.2$\mu\textrm{m}$인 결정 분말을 제조하였다. 실험결과 반응초기부터 교반을 한 경우에는 교반속도가 증가함에 따라 평균입경이 감소했으나, 결정성은 나빠지다가 150r/min 이상에서는 다시 좋아졌다. 또한 반응 도중에 교반을 추가하면 반응초기부터 교반을 한 경우보다 입자의 크기가 커졌다. 그러나 교반속도를 일정하게 한 후 승온속도를 느리게 하면 입자의 크기가 작아졌다.

Review on Rice Flour Manufacturing and Utilization

  • Background: The Korean government launched a project in 2008, where the amount of rice used as raw ingredient in rice-based foods in 2012 was planned to increase up to 10% (470,000 ton) of the total rice production through developing various new rice-based processed foods and their commercial manufacturing technology. Among the four major rice-based processed foods, rice cakes and noodles need rice flour as their main raw ingredient. Technology in rice flour utilization and manufacturing is far behind than the technology pertinent to wheat flour in many subject areas. Purpose: This review aims to provide information on rice flour utilization and manufacturing with some fundamental subjects in the area of size reduction. Results: A variety of food items including bread, noodle, cake, cookie, muffin, pre-mix, beverage, vinegar, surimi, and artificial meat have found rice flour as their raw ingredient. Rice bread made out of 100% rice flour has been developed and is now sold in retail stores. Various noodle products made from rice flour are also on the market. Issues on product definition and labeling regulation about rice flour content of the products were explored. Generalized grinding equations available in the literature were seldom used in practice; instead, it has been a general practice to develop empirical equations from test milling data. Introductory remarks on three popular particle size measurement methods (sieving, Coulter counter, light diffraction) were explained. Mathematical expressions frequently used to describe particle size distribution and to correlate cumulative quantity of particles with particle size were represented. Milling methods used in producing rice flour were described along with their advantages and disadvantages. Because of their profound effect on functional properties of the rice flour, four rice flour milling equipments used at both laboratory experiments and commercial manufacturing plants were discussed.
