Reactioin Characteristics of the Sm2Fe17-xGax(x0, 2) Alloy with Hydrogen and Methane Gas

  • The Ga-stabilised $Sm_2Fe_{17-}$type alloy can hardly be disproportionated under ordinary HDDR condition. The HDDR characteristics of Ga-substituted $Sm_2Fe_{17-}$type alloy were examined, and, in particular, the effect of particle size on the disproportionation of the Ga-substituted alloy was investigated in detail. The reaction characteristics of the $Sm_2Fe_{17-}$type alloys with or without Ga-substitution with methane (CH4) gas are also examined. The Ga-stabilised $Sm_2Fe_{17-}$type alloy was able to be disproportionated significantly on heating up to 80$0^{\circ}C$ under hydrogen with normal pressure. The particle size influenced significantly on the disproportion-ation of the Ga-substitute alloy, and the materials with finer particle size (<40 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) was fully disproportionated on heating up to around 80$0^{\circ}C$ under hydrogen gas with normal pressure. The Ga-substituted alloy has a very sluggish recombination kinetics with respect to the alloy without Ga-substitution. The $Sm_2Fe_{17}C_{x-}$type carbide was stabilised significantly by the Ga-substitution for Fe in the parent alloy. While the $Sm_2Fe_{17}C_x$ was disproportionated below 80$0^{\circ}C$ the Ga-stabilised $Sm_2Fe_{14}Ga_2C_x$ carbide remained intact even on heating up to 80$0^{\circ}C$.

  • Inertial impaction type mist eliminators are the most effective instruments to separate mist from the gas. In this work, the effect of the horizontal chevron type mist eliminators is characterized experimentally. Droplet size distribution and evaluation of removal efficiency of the chevron type mist eliminators at different gas flows were investigated using an aerosol particle size analyzer and a portable aerosol spectrometer, respectively. The experimental investigations showed that the mist removal efficiency in these instruments is dependent in the droplet size, and the pressure drop is nil.

  • In this study, the wettability and mechanical properties of silicone rubber impression material were studied by using precipitated silica and fumed silica with different particle size and polarity (hydrophilic/hydrophobic). Curing time of impression material depended on the particle size of fumed silica. The curing time delayed about 9 minutes by using A300, which was the fumed silica with the smallest particle size among the silica used in this study. Wettability of rubber impression material improved with the introduction oi hydrophobic fumed silica(R972). Also, the optimum flow and mechanical properties could be obtained by using blended silica with the 90: 10 ratio of precipitated and fumed silica.

Effect of the Fineness of Fly Ash on the Compressive Strength (플라이애시 입도가 압축강도에 미치는 영향)

  • In general, various factors such as grain size, chemical composition, amorphous amount, amorphous Si and Al content of fly ash affect the reaction with cement. In this study, we investigate the effect of fly ash particle characteristics on compressive strength. The standard sand was pulverized to a particle size similar to that of fly ash and the compressive strength was measured by blending with the cement as in fly. Using the measured compressive strength results, strength enhancement by cement hydration reaction and strength enhancement by particle filling effect were confirmed. Strength increment by pozzolanic reaction of fly ash was calculated by using the compressive strength results of mortar substituted with standard powder. As a result of comparison between compressive strengths and the particle characteristics of fly ash, the blaine showed a weak correlation with the compressive strength and the PI(Pozzolanic Index) showed good correlation with the 10% penetration diameter(D10) and the 50% Respectively. Therefore, it is expected that PI will be a good means to evaluate the fly ash characteristics together with the chemical characteristics of fly ash.

Suppression of Lipid Accumulation of Hyulboochucketang in the Hepatic Tissue of Hyperlipidemic Mice by Triton WR-1339 (혈부축어탕이 Triton WR-1339에 의한 고지혈증 유발 생쥐 간조직내 지질 축적 억제에 미치는 영향)

  • After Triton WR-1339 (TX; 600mg/kg) intraperitoneal injection, hepatic tissues of ICR mice were intragastric injected with Hyulboochucketang extract(HCE; 3.3ml/kg/day) were observed to investigate the suppressive effect of lipid accumulation that evoke by the antihyperlipidemic effect of HCE. These hepatic tissues were fixed in fromol-calcium solution and were cryocut. These tissues stained by H&E for general morphology, sudan black B for lipid and perchloric acid-naphthoquinone(PAN) method for cholesterol. After TX treatment, the increase of hepatocyte having meshlike cytoplasm(HHMC) were shown in all hepatic lobules and the hepatic plates were disappeared in the aggregative region of HHMC. The number of blue black colored lipid drop and dark green colored asterisk shaped cholesterol particle in hepatic cytoplasm were increased and the size of lipid drop and cholesterol particle were enlarged. But, in HCE-treated mice, the HHCM were disappeared and hapatic plate were rearranged. The number of lipid drop and cholesterol particle were decreased than TX-treated mice and the size of lipid drop and cholesterol particle were diminished. As results indicated that the HCE work on the suppression of lipid accumulation in hepatic tissue of hyperlipidemic mice caused by disturbance of lipid metabolism.

Effect of Rice Particle Size on the Physicochemical and Nutritional Properties of Fish Porridge (쌀 입자 크기에 따른 생선죽의 이화학적 및 영양학적 특성)

  • We investigated the effect of rice particle size on the physicochemical properties of fish porridge. The pH of porridge did not differ with particle size. The redness, yellowness, and viscosity of fish porridge increased as particle size increased. The protein content of fish porridge was increased three-fold, compared with that of porridgethat did not contain fish. The total amino acid content of fish porridge was 1,610.5 mg/100 g and that of rice porridge 1,147.5 mg/100g. The Lysand Thr (these are limiting amino acids in rice) contents of fish porridge were greater than in rice porridge. In sensory evaluation tests, half-grain rice fish porridge obtained the highest scores. Based on these results, we would suggest that fish porridge made using half-grain rice has valuable physicochemical and nutritional properties.

  • With the advent of ULSI, many problems in previous metallization techniques and interconnection materials have become more serious. In this work, selective deposition of copper to fill the submicron contact has been tried. After forming electro-deposited copper films on p-type (100) silicon wafer using 0.75M $CuSO_4{\cdot}$5H_2O$ as an electrolyte, the effect of deposition time, current density and concentration of an additive on film properties were investigated. Film thickness, particle size and resistivity were analyzed by Alpha Step, SEM and 4 - point probe measurement respectively. The deposition rate was about $0.5-0.6\mu\textrm{m}$/min at $2A/dm^2$ and the particle size increased with increasing current density. The resistivities of electro-deposited copper films were about $3-6{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}$cm for the particle size above $4000{\AA}$. By the addition of 0.2 g/l gelatin, the particle size was reduced to less than $0.1{\mu}m $ and selective plugging of copper on submicron contacts could be successfully achieved.

  • The effect of ferrous/ferric molar ratio and precipitants on the formation of nano size magnetite particle was investigated by coprecipitation method. Ferrous sulfate and ferric sulfate were used as iron sources and sodium hydroxide and ammonium hydroxide was used as a precipitant. Single phase magnetite was synthesized with all of experiment conditions (ferrous/ferric molar ratios and precipitants). Particle size was smaller, and particle size distribution was narrower when NaOH was used than $NH_4OH$ was used. The crystallinity and particle size was increased and narrower particle size distribution with increasing molar ratio ferrous/ferric sulfate with the same precipitant. Super paramagnetism could be obtained at all of experiment conditions. The highest saturation magnetization (72 emu/g) was obtained when the ferrous/ferric molar ratio was 2.5 and precipitant was used $NH_4OH$.

Effect of Heat Treatment and Particle Size on the Crystalline Properties of Wood Cellulose (입자크기 및 열처리가 목재 셀룰로오스의 결정 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of heat-treatment and particle size on the crystalline properties of the wood cellulose. The color of wood flours was changed from light yellow in control sample to dark yellow or deep brown by heat treatment at $100^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$. Relative crystallinity of the heat treated wood cellulose decreased with decreasing particle size from wood chips to 200 mesh, and there was little change in the crystal width. As the temperature was increased, relative crystallinity of the wood increased and crystal width was not changed. As a result of the FT-IR analysis, it was confirmed that the peaks were gradually decreased at -OH elongation as the heat-treated temperature was increased. The lignin C-H bending of $1425cm^{-1}$ and the hemicellulose C-H bending of $1370cm^{-1}$ did not change with the increase of the heat treatment temperature. In addition, it was revealed that C-C stretching of carbohydrate near $1031cm^{-1}$ decreased with increasing heat treatment temperature. Consequently, it is suggested that particle size and heat treatment affected the crystalline properties of wood cellulose.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted on the influences of median size, dust concentration, dust condition (cloud and layer) for the fire and explosion hazard assessment of dusts with the same powder property. For this purpose, tests have been performed in accordance with 20 L explosion sphere, thermogravi- metric analyze, combustion rate tester (UN method). We investigated the explosion characteristics and flame propagation velocity (FPV) in dust cloud and the flame spread velocity(FSV) over dust layer on 8 dust samples with different particle sizes of 4 types of dusts (Sugar, Mg, Al, Zr). An explosion hazard increased with decreasing particle size in Mg and Al dust clouds, but sugar did not show the effect of explosion hazard due to particle size change in dust clouds. The flame propagation velocity (FPV) of suspended dusts increased significantly when the particle size decreased from micro to nano than the variation of particle size in micro range. The flame spread velocity (FSV) over dust layer showed a tendency to increase over the inclined dust layers (30° slope) rather than the horizontal dust layers (0° slope). The flame spread rate (FSV) over dust layers increased on the inclined dust layer (30° slope) rather than the horizontal dust layer (0° slope) and was higher upward flame than the downward flame in condition of inclined dust layers(30° slope).
