This study is proposed to investigate the effect of electrode preparation method for Alkaline Fuel Cell using NaOH as an electrolyte on the Fuel Cell performance. The materials used for the preparation of electrode are Pt and Ag on Vulcan XC-72. Surface area of Vulcan XC-72 have different values according to the pretreatment conditions and the dispersion of Pt is dependent on the impregnation Particle size of Pt impregnated on unpretreated carbon was observed to be $20{\sim}40{\AA}$ and that on pretreated carbon in $N_2$ stream at $950^{\circ}C$ was found to be finely dispersed less then $15{\AA}$. The electrode performance was affected by the particle size of metals and operating temperature. It was revealed from this study that the optimum particle size about $30{\AA}$ and optimum temperature range is between $90{\sim}100^{\circ}C$.
The production of fine metal oxide particles in supercritical water has been studied. Cobalt nitrate solution and manganese nitrate solution have been selected as model solutions for metal salt aqueous solution and the particles of cobalt oxide and manganese oxide have been produced. It was observed that the production of fine metal oxide particles in supercritical water was feasible and the dehydration rate was remarkably high in supercritical water. In spite of a short residence time (3~100 seconds), fine particles ($0.5{\sim}2{\mu}m$) have been produced. In the supercritical water process, the temperature of mixer had a significant effect on particle size and size distribution. It was observed that a change in reaction temperature resulted in the control of particle size.
The influences of various operating parameters on physico-chemical techniques were evaluated to remediate petroleum-contaminated sandy soil including S/L ratio, kinetic, and effect of soil particle size. The simple extraction using tap water removed only 20.6% of total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH), and addition of NaOH enhanced the removal of TPH to approximately 30%. To meet the regulation levels, a surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate, was added, and the removal of TPH increased to 4 times. Probably, the carbonate minerals affected chemical aging and soprtion of petroleum, which inhibited the extraction of TPH. The soil with smaller particle size contained more TPH, and the removal of TPH was obstructed with smaller particle size. However, NaOH addition increased the removal of TPH in the smaller particles. The physico-chemical properties of soil influenced greatly the removal of petroleum even in sandy soil.

Batch test and column test were performed to develop the design factors for PRBs against the contaminated groundwater by ammonium and lead. Clinoptilolite, one of the natural zeolites having excellent cation exchange capacity(CEC), was chosen as the reactive material through the ion-exchange mechanism. In the batch test, the reactivity of Clinoptilolite to ammonium and lead was examined with varying the particle size of Clinoptilolite. The nit weight of Clinoptilolite showed removal efficiencies of 65 % against the ammonium and 98% against lead. The effect of particle size of Clinoptilolite was not noticeable. In the column test, the permeability was examined using flexible-wall permeameters with varying the particle size of Clinoptilolite. When the washed Clinoptilolite having the diameter of 0.42-0.85 nm was mixed with Jumunjin sands in 20:80 ratio (w/w), the highest permeability of 2$\times$10$^{-3}$ -7 x 10$^{-4}$ cm/s was achieved. The reactivity and the strength property of the mixed material were investigated using fixed wall column having 8 sampling ports on the wall and the direct shear test, respectively. Clinoptilolite was found to be a suitable material for PRBs against the contaminated groundwater with ammonium and/or heavy metals.

This review paper evaluates different kinds of synthesis methods for calcite precipitated calcium carbonates by using different materials. The various processing routes of calcite with different compositions are reported and the possible optimum conditions required to synthesize a desired particle sizes of calcite are predicted. This paper mainly focuses on that the calcite morphology and size of the particles by carbonation process using loop reactors. In this regard, we have investigated various parameters such as $CO_2$ flow rate, Ca $(OH)_2$ concentration, temperature, pH effect, reaction time and loop reactor mechanism with orifice diameter. The research results illustrate the formation of well-defined and pure calcite crystals with controlled crystal growth and particle size, without additives or organic solvents. The crystal growth and particle size can be controlled, and smaller sizes are obtained by decreasing the Ca $(OH)_2$ concentration and increasing the $CO_2$ flow rate at lower temperatures with suitable pH. The crystal structure of obtained calcite was characterized by using X-ray diffraction method and the morphology by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The result of x-ray diffraction recognized that the calcite phase of calcium carbonate was the dominating crystalline structure.

For the fabrication of YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{x}$ thick film using diffusion process between $Y_3$BaCuO$_{5}$ and BaO+CuO, each material was selected as substrate and doping material. In this paper, we investigated the characteristic of YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{x}$ thick film due to both addition of CeO$_2$into substrate and initial particle size of doping material. Through X-ray diffraction patterns and SEM photographs, the variation of composition and thickness of the formed phase was observed. It was from the experiment obtained that the addition of CeO$_2$into $Y_2$BaCuO$_{5}$ substrate and the initial particle size of doping material play important part in promoting the reaction between substrate and doping material.aterial.
Hybrid material(ceramic+metal) processes were developed for micro filter using ceramics coating at metal filter surface by thermal spray method, micro hole drilling at ceramic coated filter surface by femtosecond laser, and fiber laser direct welding of ceramic and metal (SUS304, SM45C) by capillary effect. Thermal spray process was used for ceramic powders and metal filters. The used ceramic powders were $Al_2O_3+40TiO_2$(Metco 131VF) powder of maximum particle size $5{\mu}m$ and ${Al_2O_3}99+$(Metco 54NS) power of maximum particle size 45m. Ceramic coated filters using thermal spray method had a great influence on powder material, particle size and coating thickness but had a fine performance as a micro filter. CW fiber laser was used to drill the top ceramic layer and melt the bottom metal layer for joining applications.
Most of the work reported concerned the semi-solid processing of low melting point alloys, and in particular light alloys of aluminum and magnesium. The purpose of this paper is to develop a semi-solid microstructure of Cu alloys using electromagnetic stirring applicable for squirrel cage rotor of induction motor. The size of primary solid particle and the degree of sphericity as a function of the variation in cooling rate, stirring speed, and holding time were observed. By applying electromagnetic stirring, primary solid particles became finer and rounder relative to as-cast sample. As the input frequency increased from 30 to 40 Hz, particle size decreased. The size of primary solid particle was found to be decreased with increasing cooling rate. Also, it decreased with stirring up to 3 minutes but increased above that point. The degree of sphericity became closer to be 1 with hold time. Semi-solid microstructure of Cu alloys, one of the high melting point alloys, could be controlled by electromagnetic stirring.
$Al_2O_3$/SiC particulate composites were fabircated by pressureless sintering. The dispersed phase was SiC of which the content was varied from 1.0 to 10 vol%. Three SiC powders having different median diameters from 0.28 $\mu\textrm{m}$ to 1.9 $\mu\textrm{m}$ were used. The microstructure became finer and more uniform as the SiC content increased except the 10 vol% specimens, which were sintered at a higher temperature. Under the same sintering condition, densification as well as grain growth was retarded more severly when the SiC content was higher or the SiC particle size was smaller. The highest flexural strength obtained at 5.0 vol% SiC regardless of the SiC particle size seemed to be owing to the finer and more uniform microstructures of the specimens. Annealing of the specimens at $1300^{\circ}C$ improved the strength in general and this annealing effect was good for the specimens containing as low as 1.0 vol% of SiC. Fracture toughness did not change appreciably with the SiC content but, for the composites containing 10 vol% SiC, a significantly higher toughness was obtained with the specimen containing 1.9$\mu\textrm{m}$ SiC particles.
Previously, we have reported that PLGA nanoparticles were prepared for sustained release of water-soluble blue dextran and the particle size, in vitro release pattern and encapsulation were modulated by varying polymers. This study was designed to encapsulate plasmid DNA in PLGA nanoparticles and to investigate the effect of Polymers and temperatures. PLGA nanoparticles were fabricated with poloxamer 188 (P188) or poloxamer 407 (P407) by using spontaneous emulsification solvent diffusion method. As a model plasmid DNA, pCMV-Taq2B/1L-18 was encapsulated in PLGA nanoparticles. Then, the particle size, zeta potential and encapsulation efficiency of nanoparticles containing plasmid DNA were investigated. Particle sizes of PLGA nanoparticles prepared with P188 and P407 were in the range of 200-330 nm and 250-290 nm, respectively. Zeta potentials of nanoparticles were negative regardless of nanoparticle compositions. Encapsulation efficiency of P407 nanoparticles prepared at $30^{\circ}C$ was higher than those at other preparation condition. From the results, the PLGA nanoparticles prepared with poloxamers at different temperature, could modulate the particles size of nanoparticles, and encapsulation efficiency of plasmid DNA.
