Agglomerated and nonagglomerated SiO2 particles are synthesized in furnace by the electrohydrodynamic spraying method and the vapor feeding method for the test particle generator this study. These polydispersed particles are classified with DMA to extract equal mobility particles. Then these particles are introduced into CNC (Condensation Nuclei Counter) to see the pulse height using Multi-channel Analyzer. The response characteristics of these two kinds of particles in CNCs (TSI CNC 3022 and 3025A) have been studied as a function of particle size using mono disperse particles classified by DMA. The results show that the higher drag resistance particles, so called agglomerated particles have generated a lower CNC pulse height than the spherical particles for these two different CNCs, which means the nonagglomerated particles may start to grow larger than the agglomerated particles.
This paper presents the spray atomization characteristics of the high-pressure gasoline injector for the direct-injection gasoline engine. The gasoline sprays of the injector were minted into a pressurized spray chamber with a optical access at various ambient pressures. The atomization characteristics of fuel spray such as mean diameter, mean velocity of droplet were measured by the phase Doppler particle analyzer system. In order to investigate the effect of fuel injection pressure on the quantitative characteristics of spray, the global visualization and experiment of particle measurement in the fuel spray were investigated at 3, 5 and 7 MPa of injection pressure under different ambient pressure in the spray chamber. Based on the results of this work, the fuel injection pressure of fuel injector in gasoline direct-injection engine have influence upon distribution of the mean velocity and droplet size of fuel spray. Also, the influence of injection pressure on the velocity distribution at various measuring location were investigated.
The present study was performed to develop the removal system of the offensive gases, including hydrogen sulfide of acid gas, ammonia or amice of base gas, from the nightsoil treatment plant. In order to remove the offensive gases, the Fe-EDTA system liquid phase catalytic oxidation method with the bubble lift column reactor was employed. From the results obtained, it was confirmed that the offensive gases can be deodorized simultaneously and also hydrogen sulfide of acid gas, ammonia of base gas completely removed at pH 6.45. In addition, as input gases feed rate the efficiency of acid gas did not change but the efficiency of base gases decreased to approximately 90 % at pH 6, 0. From the result of particle size analyzer, it was found that the particle sizes including sulfur and other impurites grew up to $21{\mu}m$ over 72hour reaction time.
Ultrasonication was employed to prepare solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) for smart probiotic nanoparticles as a nanofood. The model probiotic material, lactocin from Lactobacillus plantarum (CBT-LP2), was incorporated into SLN. The CBT-LP2 loaded SLN (CBT-LP2-SLN) were spherical in the photograph of scanning electron microscope (SEM). The particle size measured by laser diffraction (LD) was found to be $97.3{\pm}8.2nm$. Zeta potential analyzer suggested the zeta potential of LP-SLN was $-29.36{\pm}3.68$ mV in distilled water. The entrapment efficiency (EE%) was determined with the sephadex gel chromatogram and high-performance liquid chromatogram (HPLC), and up to 90.59% of nanofood was incorporated. Stability evaluation showed relatively long-term stability with only slight particle growth (P>0.05) after storage at room temperature for 4 weeks. Therefore, ultrasonication is demonstrated to be a simple, available and effective method to prepare high quality SLN loaded probiotic material.
A method for the direct determination of elemental content in each of aerosol particles by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission (ICP-AES) or mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is described. This method is based upon the introduction of diluted aerosol into an ICP and the measurement of either the flash emission intensities of an atomic spectral line or ion intensities. A pulse-height analyzer is used for the measurement of the distribution of the elemental content. In order to calibrate the measuring system, monodisperse aerosols are used. The potentials of the method are shown by demonstrating the copper emission signals from the aerosols generated at a small electric switch, a study of the relation between the decreasing rate of particle number density and particle size, and measurements of calcium contents in the individual biological cells.

In this study, to obtain isoindoline compounds with the high thermal resistance and reddish yellow color using an environmental friendly method without the use of any surfactants, isoindoline derivatives with different structures were added at various reaction temperatures for the synthesis and the product was then crystallized by controlling temperatures and times in autoclave. Chemical structures, particle sizes, color differences, and optical properties were evaluated by the means of FT-IR, FE-SEM, UV-Vis spectroscopy, PSA (particle size analyzer) and Zeta potential analyzer. The samples with an enhanced dispersibility, highly thermal resistance, uniform particle sizes were achieved possibly due to the addition of isoindoline derivatives into the crystallization processing mixtures. The color change trend was also observed depending upon synthesis conditions.
In this study, copper was recovered from copper containing sludge by selectively controlling electro-refining process conditions in copper sulfate electrolyte solution. Electro-refining process was performed by LSV (Linear Sweep Voltammetry) result according to copper sulfate electrolyte solution concentration, applied current density, additive type and concentration. SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and PSA (Particle Size Analyzer) were used to analyze the shape and size of copper powder. In the 0.1 ~ 0.4 M copper sulfate electrolyte solution without organic additives, the copper powder size decreased as the applied current density became closer to the limiting current density and the copper powder size tended to decrease in 0.2 ~ 0.3 M copper sulfate electrolyte solution. In addition, when the shape and size of the copper powder were analyzed by adding various types and concentrations of organic additives to the previous experimental, fine spherical copper powder having the smallest size (nm) was obtained under the condition of cellulose type additive 2,000 ppm.
Mineral compositions were determined using quantitative X-ray diffraction analysis on the three kinds of Youngdong illite consisting of white, yellow and refined yellow samples. Mean particle size and their size distribution patterns were measured by laser particle size analyzer. The characteristics of phosphate adsorption on illite were studied through batch adsorption experiments. The white illite has less illite content, but is finer than that of yellow. The refined yellow illite has more illite content and finer particle size compared with those of raw yellow illite. The adsorption rate of phosphate generally increases when the mass of illite increases, whereas adsorption quantity decreases with ascending pH. The phosphate adsorption usually increases with ascending illite content or descending particle size. Although the white illite has lower illite content than the yellow, the former has higher phosphate adsorption quantity than the latter. This can be ascribed to the fine particle size, high interlayer charge, and low substitution in tetrahedral site of white illite. The adsorption isotherms of white illite are well fitted with the Langmuir equation, however those of yellow one are better with Freundlich equation.

Size distribution of suspended particulate materials (SPM) in the coastal waters of eastern Korea was studied using a laser particle size analyzer. Mean particle size (MPS) ranges from 3.69 to 8.40 ${\mu}m$ in surface waters, from 3.38 to 6.43 ${\mu}m$ in mid-depth waters, and from 3.88 to 8.30 ${\mu}m$ in near-bottom waters. For smaller MPS, the size distribution is unimodal, whereas it becomes polymodal as the MPS increases. Particle concentrations increased with the increases in MPS, suggesting that processes of adding larger particles in the waters such as resuspension of bottom sediments are more important in controlling MPS in the area than processes of removing smaller particles such as flocculation of fine particles. Observations of higher MPS near the coast in mid-depth waters, and at the continental slope in near-bottom waters appear to support the above idea. For surface waters with high MPS, mean particle density was noticably low, indicating the importance of biological activities in the formation of suspended particles.
Objective: To explore effects of paclitaxel-loaded poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) particles on the viability of human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) HepG2 cells. Materials and Methods: The viability of HepG2 cells was assessed using MTT under different concentrations of prepared paclitaxel-loaded particles and paclitaxel (6.25, 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 mg/L), and apoptosis was analyzed using Hochest33342/Annexin V-FITC/PI combined with an IN Cell Analyzer 2000. Results: Paxlitaxel-loaded nanoparticles were characterized by narrow particle size distribution (158.6 nm average particle size). The survival rate of HepG2 cells exposed to paclitaxel-loaded PLGA particles decreased with the increase of concentration and time period (P<0.01 or P<0.05), the dose- and time-dependence indicating sustained release (P<0.05). Moreover, apoptosis of HepG2 cells was induced, again with an obvious dose- and time-effect relationship (P<0.05). Conclusions: Paclitaxel-loaded PLGA particles can inhibit the proliferation and induce the apoptosis of HCC HepG2 cells. This new-type of paclitaxel carrier body is easily made and has low cost, good nanoparticle characterization and sustained release. Hence, paclitaxel-loaded PLGA particles deserve to be widely popularized in the clinic.
