  • This paper present the results of investigation on the use of rice husk ash as a partial substitute for cement in construction. One hundred and eighty specimens of concrete cubes were cast. 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20% partial replacement of cement with rice husk ash were carried at 1:2:4 mixes by weight with 0.60, 0.65, 0.70 water/cement ratio. The results indicated that compressive strengths of cubes at 0.6, water/cement were higher than 0.65 and 0.70. Also 5% partial replacement cement with rice husk ash at $28^{th}$ day average compressive strength value of $25.4\;N/mm^2$ compared well with 0% partial replacement of cement with rice husk ash of $26.28\;N/mm^2$. This shows that at 5% partial replacement of cement with rice husk ash can be used for structural concrete and at 15% replacement or more it can be used for non - structural construction works or light weight concrete construction. The cost analysis shows substantial amount of savings for the country.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of partial beef fat replacement (0, 30, 50, 100%) with gelled emulsion (GE) prepared with olive oil on functional and quality properties of model system meat emulsion (MSME). GE consisted of inulin and gelatin as gelling agent and characteristics of gelled and model system meat emulsions were investigated. GE showed good initial stability against centrifugation forces and thermal stability at different temperatures. GE addition decreased the pH with respect to increase in GE concentration. Addition of GE increased lightness and yellowness but reduced redness compared to control samples. The results of the study showed that partial replacement of beef fat with GE could be used for improving cooking yield without negative effects on water holding capacity and emulsion stability compared to C samples when replacement level is up to 50%. The presence of GE significantly affected textural behaviors of samples (p<0.05). In conclusion, our study showed that GE have promising impacts on developing healthier meat product formulations besides improving technological characteristics.

  • This study investigates the effect of partial replacement with cement on the properties of blast furnace slag-based mortar. Recycled fine aggregate with various contents was used to activate the hydration of blast furnace slag in the mortar and compared its effect on strength development. Results showed that increasing cement and recycled fine aggregate increased the strength of mortar specimens. However, this study found that the mortar made with partial replacement of river sand with recycled fine aggregate of 20% developed a similar strength to the strength that cement with 10% can achieved.

  • The purpose of this study is investigating characteristics of paper-ash mortar according to partial replacement of fine aggregate by Paper-ash. For this purpose, selected test variables were mixing ratio with two levels of mortar(1:2, 1:3), and 3 types of paper-ash(A, B, C), and paper-ash content with four levels(5%,, 10%, 15%, 20%). As a result of this study, in all mixes with partial replacement of fine aggregate by Paper-ash generally Produced Paper-ash mortar with decreased compressive strength at ail age as compared to ordinary mixes. The mixing rate 1:2 was the higher increasing rate of strength than the mixing rate 1:3. The flow value and unit weight of paper-ash mortar were decreased with increasing of the paper-ash content. And the thermal conductivity of the thermal conductivity of the paper-ash mortar was lower than normal mixing without paper-ash.

  • To reduce the CO2 emissions associated with the manufacture of portland cement (PC), an efficient alternative like an alkali-activated binder (AAB) is the requirement of the industry. To promote the use of AAB in construction activities, a practically implementable mix proportion is required. Owing to the several raw ingredients of AAB concrete and their associated uncertainties, partial replacement of PC by AAB may be adopted instead of complete replacement as per industrial requirements. Hence, the present study aims to determine an optimal proportion for partial replacement of PC with AAB and recommend a technique for it based on site conditions. Three modes of partial replacement are followed: combining all the dry ingredients for AAB and PC followed by the addition of the requisite liquids (PAM); combining the PC and the AAB concrete in two horizontal layers (PAH); and two vertical layers (PAV). 28-day old specimens are exposed to 10% v/v solutions of HCl, H2SO4, and HNO3 to evaluate changes in mechanical, physical, and microstructural characteristics through compressive strength, corrosion depth, and microscopy. Based on deterioration in strength and integrity, PAH or PAV can be adopted in absence of acid attack, whereas PAM is recommended in presence of acid attack.

  • Disposal of industrial waste in cities where municipal authorities permitting higher floor area ratio coupled with increasing living standards, a lot of demolition waste is being generated. Its disposal is a challenge particularly in megacities where no landfills are available. The ever-increasing cost of building construction materials also necessitates consuming demolition wastes in a useful manner to save fresh natural raw materials. In the present work, the crushed waste glass is used in high-strength concrete as a partial replacement of fine aggregate. The control concrete of grade M60 was proportioned following BIS 10262-2009. The crushed waste glass has been used as a partial replacement with varying percentages of 10, 20, 30, and 40% by weight of fine aggregate. Experimental tests were carried on the fresh and hardened state of the concrete. The effect of crushed waste glass on the workability of the concrete has been investigated. Non-destructive tests, acid attack tests, compressive strength, split tensile strength, and X-ray diffraction analysis was carried out for the control concrete and concrete containing crushed waste glass after 7, 28, and 270 days of normal curing. The results show that for the same w/c ratio, the workability of concrete increases with increasing replaced crushed waste glass content. However, the decrease in compressive strength of the concrete after 28 days of normal curing and further after 28 days of acid attacks, up to 30% replacement level of fine aggregate by the crushed waste glass is insignificant.

  • The purpose of this study is investigating characteristics of the concrete containing Fly-ash according to different 4 mix design, that is, the first mix design is partial replace Fly-ash of cement, second is partial replace Fly-ash of cement and fine aggregate, third is partial replace Fly-ash of fine aggregate, fourth partial replacement of fine and coarse aggregate. For this purpose, selected test variables were water-binder ratio with two levels of 45%, 50%, and Fly-ash contents with four levels 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, As the result of this study are as follow. 1) The result of mix design of a partial replacement of cement, the slump-flow value was appeared a promotive effect of viscosity. But in case of the over with Fly-ash 10% and the other mix design was not changed slump value. 2) The unit weight of the mixing rate with Fly-ash 0% was $1.875{\sim}1.884t/m^3$, the other mix design 10% over with Fly-ash was $1.846{\sim}1.615t/m^3$, the difference was appeared less about 15% than that. 3) In design, partial replace Fly-ash of fine aggregate, this compressive strength was appeared that the concrete age after 7 days was higher than in partial replacement of cement, therefore, the default of a concrete with Fly-ash, that is the earlier compressive strength was to lessen, was improved. 4) The thermal conductivity of the all mix design was $0.447{\sim}1.144kcal/mh^{\circ}C$, this value was as good as a lightweight aggregate concrete.

  • A system consisting of two continuously and independently operating equipment subject to breakdown and repair, is considered. It is assumed that both equipment age only when in operation, and a group replacement policy is in effect, that is, both equipment are replaced simultaneously by new identical ones as soon as either of them reaches a specified replacement age. First, a system of partial differential equations based on enumerating the various probabilistic events, is derived. Then, solutions of such system of equations for a model considered in the steady-state are obtained. Finally, an economic analysis is performed to determine the optimal replacement ages of both equipment.

  • The effects of partial replacement of flour with isolated soy protein (ISP) on sponge cake quality were investigated. The replacement did not cause any significant changes in physical characteristics of sponge cakes including specific gravity, specific volume and expansion ratio. As the level of ISP replacement increased, the sponge cakes were darker in color, harder, chewier and drier than control groups. The textural characteristics (hardness, cohesiveness, springiness, gumminess and chewiness) of the sponge cakes also increased as the level of flour replacement increased. Up to 15% of the flour could be replaced by ISP without diminishing the sponge cake quality.
