  • This paper deals with damage induced anisotropy modeling for concrete-like materials. A thermodynamics based constitutive relationship is presented coupling anisotropic damage and elasticity, the main idea of the model being that damage anisotropy is responsible for the dissymmetry tension/compression. A strain written damage criterion is considered (Mazars criterion extended to anisotropy in the initial model). The biaxial behavior of a family of anisotropic damage model is analyzed through the effects of yield surface modifications by the introduction of new equivalent strains.

  • Paris hasn't experienced such excitement since the huge changes brought about by Baron Haussmann in the 19th century. Paris Rive Gauche project, started in 1991, is the largest urban project in city ever since, it represents about 1% of Paris territory. It takes place on a workshops, factories and warehouses area that prospered along the Seine river and the railways in the 19th century. Originally planned as a business quarter, Paris Rive Gauche, developed by SEMAPA for the City of Paris, fosters urban diversity through housing, offices, public facilities, shops, creating a stimulating neighbourhood where 18,000 residents, 30,000 students as well as 60,000 employees will soon croth paths. This project's main principles are urban and social diversity, deployment of public facilites, the development of new university campus inside the city, promotion of industrial patrimony and connecting the old 13th distict to the river and the opposite side. Half of the project is going to be built on a concrete slab that covers the railway tracks which is one of the major performances of this long-term project. This concrete slab represents the new level of the City, about 6 to 8 meters above the railway tracks. We distinguish three families of buildings on the cover : Classic buildings; Bridges buildings and Connection buildings, these last guarantee the linkage between old and new level of the City.

  • The determination of Paris' law parameters based on crack growth experiments is an important procedure of fatigue life assessment. However, it is a challenging task because it involves various sources of uncertainty. This paper proposes a novel probabilistic method, termed the S-N Paris law (SNPL) method, to quantify the uncertainties underlying the Paris' law parameters, by finding the best estimates of their statistical parameters from the S-N curve data using a Bayesian approach. Through a series of steps, the SNPL method determines the statistical parameters (e.g., mean and standard deviation) of the Paris' law parameters that will maximize the likelihood of observing the given S-N data. Because the SNPL method is based on a Bayesian approach, the prior statistical parameters can be updated when additional S-N test data are available. Thus, information on the Paris' law parameters can be obtained with greater reliability. The proposed method is tested by applying it to S-N curves of 40H steel and 20G steel, and the corresponding analysis results are in good agreement with the experimental observations.

  • This paper attempts to analyze how Paris was transformed by Haussman through comparing flaneurs in works by Balzac and Baudelaire. In both writers' works, flâneurs as the emblems of modernity observe Paris, especially architecture. Although representative of modernity, they are ambivalently obsessed with the heritage of the past. Balzac's The Wrong Side of Paris, Godefroid as a male bourgeois, is a flaneur observing antiquated architectures, the heritage of past. In Baudelaire's "The Swan for Victor Hugo" the flaneur passing through the modern Caroussel feels the Old Paris is gone. In "Parisian Dream," illusionary Paris exhibits metopolitan imagery wrought by capitalism led by Napoleon the third. The difference between the two writers demonstrate how Paris was changed by modernity.

  • Organic scintillators are widely used for neutron/gamma detection. Pulse shape discrimination algorithms have been commonly used to discriminate the detected radiations. These algorithms have several limits, in particular with plastic scintillator which has lower discrimination ability, compared to liquid scintillator. Recently, machine learning (ML) models have been explored to enhance discrimination performance. Nevertheless, obtaining an accurate ML model or evaluating any discrimination approach requires a reference neutron dataset. The preparation of this is challenging because neutron sources are also gamma-ray emitters. Therefore, this paper proposes a pipeline to prepare clean labeled neutron/gamma datasets acquired by an organic scintillator. The method is mainly based on a Time of Flight setup and Tail-to-Total integral ratio (TTTratio) discrimination algorithm. In the presented case, EJ276 plastic scintillator and 252Cf source were used to implement the acquisition chain. The results showed that this process can identify and remove mislabeled samples in the entire ToF spectrum, including those that contribute to peak values. Furthermore, the process cleans ToF dataset from pile-up events, which can significantly impact experimental results and the conclusions extracted from them.

  • The present paper is a review of the main activities carried out within the context of the COMPTINN' program, a joint research project founded by a FUI program (Fonds $Unifi{\acute{e}}s$ $Interminist{\acute{e}}riels$) in which four research teams focused on the thermo-oxidation behaviour of HTS-TACTIX carbon-epoxy composite at 'high' temperatures ($120^{\circ}C-180^{\circ}C$). The scientific aim of the COMPTINN' program was to better identify, with a multi-scale approach, the link between the physico-chemical mechanisms involved in thermo-oxidation phenomena, and to provide theoretical and numerical tools for predicting the mechanical behaviour of aged composite materials including damage onset and development.

  • Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling cascades play critical roles in various cellular events in plants, including stress responses, innate immunity, hormone signaling, and cell specificity. MAPK-mediated stress signaling is also known to negatively regulate nitrogen-fixing symbiotic interactions, but the molecular mechanism of the MAPK signaling cascades underlying the symbiotic nodule development remains largely unknown. We show that the MtMKK5-MtMPK3/6 signaling module negatively regulates the early symbiotic nodule formation, probably upstream of ERN1 (ERF Required for Nodulation 1) and NSP1 (Nod factor Signaling Pathway 1) in Medicago truncatula. The overexpression of MtMKK5 stimulated stress and defense signaling pathways but also reduced nodule formation in M. truncatula roots. Conversely, a MAPK specific inhibitor, U0126, enhanced nodule formation and the expression of an early nodulation marker gene, MtNIN. We found that MtMKK5 directly activates MtMPK3/6 by phosphorylating the TEY motif within the activation loop and that the MtMPK3/6 proteins physically interact with the early nodulation-related transcription factors ERN1 and NSP1. These data suggest that the stress signaling-mediated MtMKK5/MtMPK3/6 module suppresses symbiotic nodule development via the action of early nodulation transcription factors.

  • Toothash and plaster of Paris (Calcium sulfate) have been studied for bone substitute through experimental studies and clinical studies. Toothash is like resorbable hydroxyapatite. Plaster of Paris is resorbable and biocompatible. The toothash combined with plaster of Paris has the advantages of individual characteristics. The authors used this composite material in the jaw defect filling. In operation, we could manage this implant material easily and remove the dead space. During the followup period, this composite material was resorbed gradually and substituted as new-forming bone from the surrounding tissue. Complications were minor and treated completely without problems.

  • An investigation has been done to study the evolution of the microstructure, mechanical and electrical properties of AlMgSi alloy destined for the transport of electric energy, in function of the deformation caused by the cold drawing process. We identified that drawing of aluminum wire causes development of a fibrous texture of type <111> and <100>. We notice also that the electrical resistivity and mechanical resistance increases with the increasing of the deformation level. Characterization methods used in this work is: The Electron Back Scattered Diffraction EBSD, X-Ray diffraction, Vickers microhardness, Tensile test, Measuring electrical resistivity, the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy Diffraction Spectrum (EDS).
