The study sample consisted of 488 university students and their parents in Incheon and Gyeonggi, Korea. For data analysis, t-test, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis were performed. First, results showed that individual growth, emotional stability, and overall perceptions of marriage varied by gender. And results showed that individual growth, institutional necessity, and overall perceptions of marriage varied by grade. Second, higher levels of perceptions of marriage among university students were significantly correlated with greater university student's identity, better parent's marital relationship. Third, the personal relations was most influential variable on university student's perceptions of marriage, followed by the parent's conflict and authority the mother's duties, followed by the target orientating, gender and grade. Overall, results suggest that parent's marital relationship is important for promotion of positive perceptions of marriage among university students. Also, systematic analysis of university student's identity and programs to address such problems are needed.
Objectives: We examined which socioeconomic and intergenerational characteristics were associated with the level of intention to marry among Korean men and women in young adulthood. Method: Data came from 351 men and 391 women who were 25-34 years old, had never been married, and had at least one living parent. We conducted multiple regression analyses by gender after controlling for age and current romantic relationship. Results: Among the socioeconomic characteristics, more years of education was linked to both men's and women's higher levels of intention to marry. For women, having a secure, full-time job was related to greater intention to marry. For men, the higher their subjective socioeconomic status, the greater their intention to marry. Among intergenerational characteristics, both men's and women's positive attitudes toward supporting elderly parents were related to a higher level of intention to marry. For men, the frequency of providing instrumental support for their parents was negatively associated with the men's intention to marry. For women, higher levels of agreement with parents' responsibility to support their adult children as well as greater affection for their parents were positively related to greater intention to marry. Conclusions: The findings suggest that young adults' socioeconomic resources and the family context are important predictors of young adults' marital intentions. The results also reveal gender differences in the factors associated with young adults' marital intentions.
Purpose: There is evidence that parent-child cohesion is a potentially influential factor in children's self-esteem and acculturation. However, no research to date has examined cohesion with parents as a potential pathway between Korean proficiency and self-esteem or acculturation among children from multicultural families. This study was done to address these limitations by examining whether and to what extent cohesion with parents mediated the effect of Korean proficiency on self-esteem and acculturation among children from multicultural families. Methods: Data were collected from a sample of 138 mothers and their children living in Seoul, Daegu, Kyungi province, and Kyungpook province. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine the relationships between the variables of interest. Mediation effects of cohesion with parents were tested by following the procedure recommended by Baron and Kenny (1986). Results: Cohesion with parents partially mediated the relationship between Korean proficiency and self-esteem. For children's acculturation, the effect of Korean proficiency was partially mediated through father-child cohesion. Mother-child cohesion completely mediated the relationship between Korean proficiency and acculturation. Conclusion: These findings suggest that to help children from multicultural families experiencing difficulties with self-esteem or acculturation, it might be useful to develop programs that are aimed at strengthen cohesion with parents.
Objective: This study focused on the stability and reciprocal effects between abuse and neglect by parents and adolescent depression and delinquency. We examined both parent and child effects by adopting the transactional model proposed by Sameroff (2009). Methods: Using autoregressive cross-lagged modeling, data from the $2^{nd}$ to the $4^{th}$ wave of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Study (KCYPS) were analyzed. The sample consisted of 1,982 adolescents who were $8^{th}$ graders in 2011. Data were collected at three different phases: when participants were in $8^{th}$ grade (T1), $9^{th}$ grade (T2) and $10^{th}$ grade (T3). Results: First, the effects of abuse and neglect by parents and adolescent depression and delinquency showed stability from the $8^{th}$ to the $10^{th}$ grade. Second, abuse at T1 and T2 had effects on adolescent delinquency at T2 and T3, respectively, but not on adolescent depression. In terms of child effects, abuse was influenced by adolescent depression only. Adolescent depression and delinquency had no reciprocal effects. Finally, there were reciprocal effects between neglect on one hand and adolescent depression and delinquency on the other. That is, there were child effects as well as parent effects. No significant effects were found in the reciprocal relations between adolescent depression and delinquency. Conclusion: The present study found the stability of abuse and neglect by parents and adolescent depression and delinquency. Furthermore, this study identified the child effects as well as parent effects, thus supporting the transactional model of neglect by parents and adolescent depression and delinquency.
Attachment to a parents during the childhood has a impact on the number of friend and the quality of friend-relations. Specially, reactions for attachment-obstacles can be reduced by depending on the parent's positive attitude for child.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify relations among the parenting stress, maternal sensitivity to infant cues, parenting environment of first-time mothers. Method: The participants were 194 first-time mothers of babies aged 1-6 months who visited well-baby clinics in 5 hospitals. The data were collected from April 15 to June 15, 2003. Results: The parenting stress level was moderate with a mean score of 2.4(range 1-5). The parent domain and parent-child relationship domain of the parenting stress scale were significantly correlated with maternal sensitivity to infant feeding cues (r=-.178, p<.05; r=-.197, p<.01). Parenting stress was significantly correlated with childrearing environment(r=-2.19, p<.01). Parenting stress and childrearing environment were significantly different according to the educational level of the mothers and their prenatal care. Conclusions: Nursing interventions to reduce parenting stress in first-time mothers are needed to improve maternal sensitivity to infant cues and childrearing environment which foster infant development.

Second, correlational analyses results indicated that parent-young adult relationship was positively related with the level of self-differentiation. However parent-young adult relationship and the level of self-differentiation were negatively related with the interpersonal problems. Third, hierarchical regression analyses showed that parent-young adult relationship and the level of self-differentiation had significant influences on the interpersonal problems(moving toward people, moving against people and moving away from people among 20s). This study attempted to explore how middle aged married men and women prospected a Centenarian society and what implications their prospect cast for family policy. We conducted focus group interviews with five groups in order to identify their subjective prospects on marital relations, parent-child relations, caregiving from family or institutions, and alternative living arrangement. From those interviews, we found that married men and women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s possessed ambivalent attitudes toward their marital relationship, either acknowledging an importance of marital relationship or accepting long-standing disrespectful marital relationship. They also had a dualistic perspective on parent-child relationship, accepting parental responsibility for children and even grand-children but maintaining low expectations for children. What they needed was age appropriate opportunities for work or leisure and better community services and facilities. These results showed that the middle-aged was concerned experiencing unprecedented family situations. They needed family life education and services in order to adapt to the Centenarian society. Since family policy has viewed this age group out of service target, programs and services have been underdeveloped for this group. Expecting a Centenarian society however, we need to expand the boundary of family policy and take a new perspective. We need to develop and implement marital education programs, community-based self-care services, and age-appropriated opportunities for work, leisure, and social relations.

Emotional and verbal child abuse differed significantly by the level of socioeconomic status, child's personality, parent's personality, marital dispute. But child abuse was not related to the sex of children.
