  • A Crimp Force Monitor (CFM) is equipment for detecting crimp errors by analyzing crimp signals obtained from force and strain sensors. The analysis is commonly performed by aligning a measured crimp signal with a reference signal and comparing their difference. Current analysis methods often suffer from wrong alignments that result in false negative detections. This paper presents a new crimp signal analysis method in CFM. First, a falling edge alignment is proposed that matches falling edges of the measured and the reference signals by minimizing the absolute difference summation. Second, a signal parameter error is introduced to evaluate the crimp quality difference between the measured signal and the reference. For calculating the signal parameter error, part of a signal is identified and divided into several regions to maximize the signal parameter errors. Experiments showed that the proposed method can improve the signal alignment and accurately detect bad crimps especially with the strain sensor.

  • In this research, a multi-objective optimal design of a scroll compressor lower frame was approximated, and the design parameters of the lower frame were selected. The sensitivity of the design parameters was induced through a parameter analysis, and the thickness was determined to be the most sensitive parameter to stress and deflection. All of the design parameters regarding the mass are sensitive factors. It was formulated for the problem about stress and deflection to be caused by the axial load. The sensitivity of the design variables was determined using an orthogonal array for the parameter analysis. Using the central composite and D-optimal designs, a second polynomial approximation of the objective and constraint functions was formulated and the accuracy was verified through an R-square. These functions were applied to the optimal design program (NSGA-II). Through a CAE analysis, the effectiveness of the central composite and D-optimal designs was determined.

  • Object-oriented analysis-synthesis coding (OOASC) subdivides each image of a sequence into a number of moving objects and estimates and compensates the motion of each object. It employs a motion parameter technique for estimating motion information of each object. The motion parameter technique employing gradient operators requires a high computational load. The main objective of this paper is to present efficient motion parameter estimation techniques using the hierarchical structure in object-oriented analysis-synthesis coding. In order to achieve this goal, this paper proposes two algorithms : hybrid motion parameter estimation method (HMPEM) and adaptive motion parameter estimation method (AMPEM) using the hierarchical structure. HMPEM uses the proposed hierarchical structure, in which six or eight motion parameters are estimated by a parameter verification process in a low-resolution image, whose size is equal to one fourth of that of an original image. AMPEM uses the same hierarchical structure with the motion detection criterion that measures the amount of motion based on the temporal co-occurrence matrices for adaptive estimation of the motion parameters. This method is fast and easily implemented using parallel processing techniques. Theoretical analysis and computer simulation show that the peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) of the image reconstructed by the proposed method lies between those of images reconstructed by the conventional 6- and 8-parameter estimation methods with a greatly reduced computational load by a factor of about four.

  • After using the filtering method, wave parameters are calculated by the spectral analysis and wave by wave analysis. Extreme environments and higher wave characteristics int he Chujeon Sea are analyzed using the observed wave data. Higher wave has been intensely emphasized as an important environmental force parameter in several recent research works. The aims of this study are to summarize the distribution of extreme environment for wind waves, and to find occurrence probability of higher wave in Chujeon Sea. Ocean wave statistics varying with sea state are found to respond linearly to the spectral peakedness parameter Qp, mean run-length and Ursell number. Although the spreading of the field results is large, it may be concluded that the tendency of wave group formation depends on the spectral peakedness parameter Qp. Extreme wave is estimated to apply various model distribution functions by using the monthly maximum significant wave parameters which can be used to the design and analysis of coastal structures.

  • Stability analysis of three-layered piezoelectric doubly curved nano shell with accounting size dependency is performed in this paper based on first order shear deformation theory and curvilinear coordinate system relations. The elastic core is integrated with sensor and actuator layers subjected to applied electric potentials. The principle of virtual work is employed for derivation of governing equations of stability. The critical electrical and mechanical buckling loads are evaluated in terms of important parameters of the problem such as size-dependent parameter, two principle angle of doubly curved shell and two parameters of Pasternak's foundation. One can conclude that mechanical buckling loads are decreased with increase of nonlocal parameter while the electrical buckling loads are increased.

  • Parameter analysis has been performed for an equal channel angular process. The processing variables such as channel configuration, friction coefficient, and ram speed were investigated by means of the magnitudes and distributions of effective plastic strain analysis through the deformation. The materials considered were pure aluminum and titanium. Here firstly, a finite element implementation by using the commercial ABAQUS software was carried out for both the aluminum and titanium materials based on the L-channel configuration. The experimental investigation then has been conducted using the obtained data. Finally, the ability of robust metals which can be produced by the optimized ECAP has been discussed by the appropriate parameter analysis.

  • This paper develops a sequential updating method of the Euler parameter generalized coordinates for the machine kinematics and dynamics, The Newton's method is slightly modified so as to utilize the Jacobian matrix with respect to the virtual rotation instead of this with repect to the Euler parameters. An intermediate variable is introduced and the modified Newton's method solves for the variable first. Relational equation of the intermediate variable is then solved for the Euler parameters. The solution process is carried out efficiently by symoblic inversion of the relational equation of the intermediate variable and the iteration equation of the Euler parameter normalization constraint. The proposed method is applied to a kinematic and dynamic analysis with the Generalized Coordinate Partitioning method. Covergence analysis is performed to guarantee the local convergence of the proposed method. To demonstrate the validity and practicalism of the proposed method, kinematic analysis of a motion base system and dynamic analysis of a vehicle are carried out.

  • In the study, the inner flow characteristics were analyzed by modifying the inner design parameter of the vane-type vacuum pump. The effect of pressure generated by the inner flow of pump on the rotor and vane was analyzed. The design parameter was analyzed using the angle variation of tilting and rotation of the vane. MRF was used for the analysis conducted using a virtual condition where the rotor and vane are rotated. The pressure gained from the load of the rotor and vane in the flow analysis is used for the structure analysis. Based on the results, the effect of variable vane design was revealed in structural strength. The effect of centrifugal and friction force generated during pump operation on structural strength was also analyzed.

  • A framework for reliability analysis of structural components and systems under conditions of statistical and model uncertainty is presented. The Bayesian parameter estimation method is used to derive the posterior distribution of model parameters reflecting epistemic uncertainties. Point, predictive and bound estimates of reliability accounting for parameter uncertainties are derived. The bounds estimates explicitly reflect the effect of epistemic uncertainties on the reliability measure. These developments are enhance-ments of second-moment uncertainty analysis methods developed by A. H-S. Ang and others three decades ago.
