  • In these days, automotive companies are trying to develop new manufacturing technologies and paradigms for rapid product development and production. The press die development process account for 40% of entire vehicle development process, and tryout process usually takes 3 to 4 months, and it is the biggest time portion out of dies manufacturing. Therefore, the effective tryout management system is essential to reduce time and cost of automotive press die production. This paper suggests improved process and practical application of tryout management using ubiquitous technology, and shows the results such as shorten time, improved quality and supporting of lifecycle engineering of press die.

  • The System of communication with wireless devices is experiencing a huge growth. While traditional communication paradigms deal with fixed networks, mobility raises a new set of questions, techniques, and solutions. In order to realize service mobility, there is a need of protocol that can support mobility while nodes are communicating without any disruption of their connection status. This paper proposes a handover authentication protocol for mobility support. Careful considerations must be taken in priority to security issues since many unreliable public and private resources; both networks and devices are involved. The protocol is based on public key cryptography with Diffie-Hellman algorithm which provides security against both leakage-resilience of private keys on untrustworthy devices and forward secrecy.

  • This paper introduces complex-valued competitive learning neural network for spatio-temporal pattern recognition. There have been quite a few neural networks for spatio-temporal pattern recognition. Among them, recurrent neural network, TDNN, and avalanche model are acknowledged as standard neural network paradigms for spatio-temporal pattern recognition. Recurrent neural network has complicated learning rules and does not guarantee convergence to global minima. TDNN requires too many neurons, and can not be regarded to deal with spatio-temporal pattern basically. Grossberg's avalanche model is not able to distinguish long patterns, and has to be indicated which layer is to be used in learning. In order to remedy drawbacks of the above networks, unsupervised competitive learning using complex umber is proposed. Suggested neural network also features simultaneous recognition, time-shift invariant recognition, stable categorizing, and learning rate modulation. The network is evaluated by computer simulation with randomly generated patterns.

  • In the contemporary, all social shifts as well as the fields of design have been changed much faster than past. And continually it will be changed in the future. In this situation, futuristic design will be much more important paradigm than now. Emotion and digital can be key issues in the futuristic design paradigms. Karim Rashid is one of most famous futuristic designers, and all his works are expressed emotion and digital. Also he uses various factors to express futurism such as curved line, futuristic colors, special materials, and so on. In the future, we will live in the emotion and digital culture age. According to social shifts, our life should be change with Futurism. Therefore his role will be more important, and he has to consider relationship between men and their surroundings as he designs all his work's range, specially housing design.

  • Modem society has been complicated and diverse, and then various paradigms coexist. We can see Postmodernism moving in the flows of modern architecture. Therefore looming large is the Fold architecture that can surmount the limit of design in Postmodernism and Deconstruction and suits to the modern culture as an architectural alternative. So I believe this research can make us perceive the streams of modern interior space by considering the features and meanings of Fold conception which has been noticeable in the overall architecture and culture since the middle of 1990's with analyzing and defining atypical organic Fold characteristics appearing in modern interior since 2000, and also predict the next changing direction.

  • The degree of relative similarity between 2D patterns is obtained using Open-Ball Scheme. Open-Ball Scheme employs a method of transforming the geometrical information on 3D objects or 2D patterns into the features to measure the relative similarity for object(patten) recognition, with invariance on scale, rotation, and translation. The feature of an object is used to obtain the relative similarity and mapped into [0, 1] the interval of real line. For decades, Moment-Invariant Method has been used as one of the excellent methods for pattern classification and object recognition. Open-Ball Scheme uses the geometrical structure of patterns while Moment Invariant Method uses the statistical characteristics. Open-Ball Scheme is compared to Moment Invariant Method with respect to the way that it interprets two-dimensional patten classification, especially the paradigms are compared by the degree of closeness to human's intuitive understanding. Finally the effectiveness of the proposed Open-Ball Scheme is illustrated through simulations.

  • Model-driven and component-oriented development is increasingly being used in the development of embedded systems. When combined, both paradigms provide several advantages, such as higher reuse rates, and improved system quality. Performing model-driven and component-oriented development should be accompanied by a component model and a method that prescribes how the component model is used. This article provides an overview on the MARMOT method, which consists of an abstract component model and a methodology for the development of embedded systems. The paper describes a feasibility study that demonstrates MARMOT's capability to alleviate system design, verification, implementation, and reuse. Results indicate that model-driven and component-based development following the MARMOT method outperforms Agile development for embedded systems, leads to maintainable systems, and higher than normal reuse rates.

  • Architecture is the result of reflecting paradigm. As the paradigms and architectures are changing, architect between them are not free by no means. As changes occur continuously, it is important to acknowledge the flows of change and to do some roles in that flows. Toyo Ito is one of the architects who confront the contemporary situations, find the problem and struggle to containing it in his architectural world. He tries to accept and reorganize the phenomenon that appears today's society. Contemporary architecture is showing many aspects on the ground of ecological paradigm. Therefore fresh architectural methods are being quested. This study point at one aspect of Toyo Ito's architectural feature - eco-friendly- which have domiant influences on his architecture philosophy. This notion also has important role on Toyo Ito's past and present activities.

  • Community nutritionists draw upon theories from the social sciences to improve their work in health promotion and disease prevention. Social science theories are sets of concepts that provide systematic explanations that can predict events or situations, and are classified into several paradigms and worldviews. these theories interact with research and practice around the subject matter of community nutrition. Use of these theories provides benefits in community nutrition by helping to organize thinking about nutrition topics in ways that are useful for assessing , understanding, intervening, and evaluation community nutrition issues. Community nutrition researchers and practitioners can be choose from many available social science theories by evaluating assumptions, scope, applicability, complexity, effectiveness, and other aspects of the theories. Awareness and use of social science theories should enhance the development of community nutrition. (Korean J Community Nutrition2(5) : 671-679, 1997)

  • We report a preliminary fMRI evidence of modulation of somatomotor areas by acupuncture in GB34 acupoint. GB34, located in the back of the knee, is known to be effective in recovering motor function after stroke. Using 3T MR scanner, functional MR imaging was performed in five normal volunteers in two stimulation paradigms; acupuncture manipulation on GB34 and sham points. Group analysis form five individuals showed that bilateral sensorimotor areas (BA 3,4,6 and 7) showed stimulation related BOLD signal contrast of approximately 6% whereas very few areas were activated when sham stimulation is given. Our results suggest that acupuncture fMRI study can be safely conducted in 3T environment and stimulation in GB34 modulate the cortical activities of the somatomotor area in human.
