  • The MDDA(Modified Dynamic Drainage Analyzer) was developed to evaluate the drainage at hydrofoil table roll and low vacuum devices on fourdrinier paper machine MB-former. Comparison of the results was obtained using a computer simulation system based on Taylor's equation and filtration equation and by measuring the consistency profile in a paper machine presented an agreement within 10.7% This device can evaluate the dewatering pro-file on wire for various stock properties adjust dewatering devices on fourdrinier paper machine and control the dosage of retention aids for improving paper structural properties and runnability of papermachine.

  • Hanji made of mulberry fibers has the lower printability due to their long fiber length, the diffusible property of ink, and low smoothness. This study was carried out to analyze the physical and optical properties of machine-made Hanji controlled by the different contents of paper mulberry 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100%. In this study, the results of comparing machine-made Hanji controlled by the different contents of $Paper$ $mulberry$ with commercial paper and inkjet coated paper are as following: Tearing strength of machine-made Hanji is higher than domestic paper and inkjet coated paper. By increasing paper mulberry contents of machine-made Hanji appeared that tensile strength increased and smoothness gradually decreased. Printability of machine-made Hanji is less than domestic paper and inkjet coated paper. However, there were significant possibility to use for printing paper.

  • Up to now 5 Voith Sulzer paper machines with multi-layer headbox and Gapfor-mer are sucessfully running on papckaging papers. Linerboard, testliner and corugating medium is produced in the basis weight range from 105 to 275 $g/m^2$ at machine speeds up to 900 m/min. The nest one, starting up in Oct. `96 in Germany, will be the world's fastest paper machine for packaging papers. The 5.6 m wide machine is designed for a maximum operating speed of 1200 m/min. Approx. 220.000 tons of corrugating medium and testliner based on 100% waste paper in the basis weight range from 90 to 160 $g/m^2$ will be produced each year. An expansion stage planned for the future is intended to increase annual output to 280.000 tons. This machine will not only be the fastest one for packaging papers, it also comprises all described innovative key components which are available today in order to fulfill growing demands of the future with regard to quality and productivity. The concept of this advanced machine is shown in Fig. 9.

  • Hanji has been used mainly for preservation paper because of superior mechanical properties. However, it was not used in printing for inkjet and laser printer-printed letters. In this study, machine-made Hanji was prepared with five different contents of paper mulberry 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100% and managed by same pressure calendering. By increasing of paper mulberry contents, tearing index and folding endurance of machine-made Hanji increased because of increased fiber-to-fiber bonding. Printability property of machine-made Hanji improved by decreasing of paper mulberry contents. After 20 hours accelerated aging, the initial folding endurance of machine-made Hanji was reduced by approximately one-fourth degree. Between 40 and 100% contents of paper mulberry was showed similar levels about preservation property. The machine-made Hanji of paper mulberry 60% content was suitable for permanence and printability properties using preservation paper and printer-printed letters.

  • Cylinder machine usually gives more fiber orientation than fourdrinier and has limitation in machine speed because of fiber wash-off caused by centrifugal force when machine speed increases. This study aimed for the improvement of paper formation and productivity by setting an apron in vat inlet and by adjusting mould water head. Improvement of formation and increase of machine speed were achieved, which ultimately improve productivity. Installing an apron successfully decreased fiber wash-off. Fiber orientation and two-sideness of ash distribution became less severe. The proper adjustment of water head inside the cylinder mould proved to be an important factor not only in paper formation but also in decreasing paper two-sideness.

  • Rebuilding an existing paper machine is often a very profitable way for papermakers to increase the cash flow created by an older paper machine. Metso Paper has placed particular emphasis in recent years on developing concepts and products specifically for rebuild needs. The outcome of this work can now be seen as a wide selection of products offering quite possibly the best coverage of all time of specific improvement targets. Different needs can be addressed through truly different solutions. Selecting the best-fit alternatives will offer great upgrade options for all paper machines and paper grades. Metso Paper's long experience with high-speed paper machines has been put to good use to create more cost-effective small and mid-sized solutions with the reliability and quality of bigger and faster paper machines. This paper has discussed some of the most interesting and latest configurations available today for paper machine and finishing area rebuilds.

  • This paper presents an improved automatic vending machine for ices. Specially, the main topic of this paper is the development of moving parts for carrying ices out of a freezer. In general, carrying ices out of a vending machine causes much cool air losses. The developed vending machine reduces much cool air losses by the improvement of moving parts. Also the machine reduces many mechanical troubles caused by the freezing of mechanically moving parts.
