This paper attempts to find out the development of designs of chairs in interiors. It will discussed by dividing into two periods; the pre-world war I, and the post-world war I up to date. In the first part it will concentrate on four types of design materjals; plywood, metal, solid wood, and plastic chairs. In the second part it will deal with only two materials; Metal and solid wood. Under each material one designer and manufacturer, the country where the designer worked, and related dates. It will discuss how the design materiai was exploited by each designer within its potentials including how chair was made, what design elements could do, whether he used the potentials, and the potentials were fully exploited. And it discusses the success of the chair design material as shown in the interiors or failure of the chair design material. Fainally under each material one picture of chairs, one or two pictures for the chairs in the interiors, of the chairs will be provided. A bibliography will be attached to the end of the paper.

To use bamboo in the pulp industry, the anatomical characteristics of 60-day-old, 1-year-old, 2-year-old, and 3-year-old moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens Mazel), and the characteristics of fiber and sheet of alkali pulp made of moso bamboo were investigated. Moso bamboo is composed of metaxylens and parenchyma cells in the inner part of the wall, and thick-walled small bundle sheathes near the outer walls. Moso bamboo showed the heterogeneity in anatomical structure. The longest fibers were shown in the middle part, and the widest width in the inner part. The lignin contents were 14.4% in 60-day-old bamboo, which was not lignified yet. The lignin contents in bamboo above 1 year were approximately 35%. The yields of alkali pulp of moso bamboo were in the range between 41 and 47%, and the yields tend to decrease with the increase of ages. The lignin contents of 60-day-old bamboo were 2.1% and those of bamboo above 1 year showed approximately 4% to 5% increment. The length, width, and curl index of fiber in alkali pulp appeared to be similar in all ages. However, coarseness increased slightly with the increase of bamboo ages. The distribution of long fiber was shown much in 60-year-old bamboo. The optical and mechanical properties of moso bamboo tended to decrease with the increase of bamboo age.

Chemical composition and contents of carbohydrates, lignin, and extractives in Moso(Phyllostachys pubescens Mazel), Henon(Phyllostachys nigra var. henonis Stapf ex. Rendle), and Timber bamboo(Phyllostachys bambusoides Sieb. et Zucc.) known as economically valuable bamboo species in Korea were analyzed as a function of ages. All of tested bamboo species were composed of fucose, arabinose, rhamnose, galactose, glucose, xylose, and mannose. Glucose was the sugar which showed the highest content followed by xylose. The contents of others were below 3%. Sugar contents of bamboo shoots showed the lowest among the tested bamboo samples, and the constant rates were shown after 50 days of growth. Lignin content increased by the growth of one year, and the increasing rates tended to be constant after the growth of three years. Bamboo shoots have the highest contents of acid-soluble lignin, which turned into insoluble lignin after the growth of 50 days. Bamboo shoots showed the highest content of extractives and tend to be decreased by the growth of 50 days and then the content increased slowly in proportion to the period of bamboo growth. No relationship was found between species and chemical composition of bamboo. However, there were significant difference in chemical composition between bamboo shoots and 50-day old bamboo.

The bamboo fibers from three Korean bamboo species, Moso, Henon and Timber bamboo, were prepared by disintegration after thermal treatment. The samples were prepared according to the age of growth; bamboo shoots, 20 days and 50 days of growth. The fiber quality was also investigated by morphological and chemical analyses. There was no big difference in the dry mass of fibers among the three bamboo species. However, the dry mass of fibers from 50 days of growth was increased by 34%, whereas it was ranged in 9-20% in the case of fibers from bamboo shoots and 20 days of growth. In the results of morphological analysis, the fibers could be classified as the fibers from metaxylem, the fibers from parenchyma and the fines produced during disintegration. The fibers from 50 days of growth were separated from metaxylem, whereas the fibers from bamboo shoots and 20 days of growth were mainly consisted of fibers from metaxylem and parenchyma. The chemical analysis of fibers showed that the contents of carbohydrates, lignin and extractives were not much affected by thermal treatment.
The fire resistance of thermal insulation and interior finishing materials is recently much emphasized after the fire accident at the Icheon Cold Store in January 2008. Three kinds of thermal insulation are used in buildings. They are Organic, Non-organic and cellulosic insulation. Organic insulation such as polystyrene foam board and urethane foam has high thermal resistance but it has no fire resistance. While non-organic insulation such as rockwool and glassfiber has high fire resistance, it has lower thermal resistance than organic insulation. Cellulose insulation is primarily manufactured from recycled newsprint or cardboard using shredders and fiberizers. Despite of its environmental friendliness and high thermal resistivity, its domestic use has not much increased because of the prejudice that paper can easily burn. However, the cellulose insulation as a product is about 80 wt.% cellulosic fiber and 20 wt.% chemicals, most of which are fire retardants such as boric acid and ammonium sulfate. It is required to secure its fire safety for more consumption as a building insulation in Korea. Therefore, this study investigates the fire resistance of Korean cellulose insulation according to the rate of fire retardant and finally presents the optimum rate of fire retardant in cellulose as building insulation. The fire safety test was conducted according to the ASTM C 1485-00. The test results indicate that above 18 wt% of fire retardant is necessary to secure the fire safety of cellulose insulation.

The repair and maintenance cost of domestic public rental housing is an issue of considerable interest and growing financial concern. This paper suggests a quantity-based model as an alternative method for predicting costs, instead of the conventional model which is based on actual cost data. Furthermore, this paper provides a forecast of the repair costs incurred each year during the multi family house's maintenance phase (40 years). The recently changed the long-term repair plan and quality-improved interior materials were considered into the research. In order to estimate the cost of maintenance work, 5 sample apartments were selected and analyzed. The repair and maintenance cost from the case studies was converted to cost per household and per floor area for general use. On the other hand, the net present value method was applied to reflect the effect of time. We expect that the results will help to establish expenditure plans that are more effective for public rental housing in the maintenance stage.
Even though the notion exists that wall paper has got a short durability for interior decoration in terms of paper's nature, it can be the most important element among the modern dosing wall papering because of the variation of the walls visual effect. Wall paper hasn't been preserved well according to the paper's character and official records haven't been done well. So, by studying a case in which a room is maintained well, seeing various commercial samples which were used for an advertisement and reading several booklets it is possible to study historical evidence. In regard to wall paper and Papering. data, the commercial historic nature of the traditional wall papering has been recognized again in order to study the root of the technical and commercial background. In theory, the historic background research of traditional wall paper in the past is said to have established its theoretical system and the development of modern wall papering in the middle of Britain in 18th century. Through the theoretical study of wall papering, the following things have been researched: handling don the method of the traditional wall papering and lining paper, stylization of pattern by using the method of continual linking, subdivision of commercial cost and specialization of wallpaper, handing down the past traditional adhesion method, the origin of string wallpaper, utility of traditional wallpaper and its various abilities, the change from the face to face linking to duplicated linking, the development of DIY products by women's wallpaper selections. Put against other materials, wallpaper remains the most popular and preferable product for managing a wall and provides a decorative, wall dosing technique. This study can estimate the source of wallpapering history in order to create a systemic approach towards the future's wallpaper industry. This is very important data in order to establish a theoretical system of traditional wallpapering according to its historical research about wallpapering skills and its commercial aspect.
Recently, the research to visualize and to reproduce evacuation situations such as terrorism, the disaster and fire indoor space has been come into the spotlight and designing a model for interior space and reliable analysis through safety evaluation of the life is required. Therefore, this paper aims to develop simulation model which is able to suggest evacuation route guidance and safety analysis by considering the major risk factor of fire in actual building. First of all, we designed 3D-based fire and evacuation model at a subway station building in Incheon and performed fire risk analysis through thermal parameters on the basis of interior materials supplied by Incheon Transit Corporation. In order to evaluate safety of a life, ASET (Available Safe Egress Time), which is the time for occupants to endure without damage, and RSET (Required Safe Egress Time) are calculated through evacuation simulation by Fire Dynamics Simulator. Finally, we can come to the conclusion that a more realistic safety assessment is carried out through indoor space model based on 3-dimension building information and simulation analysis applied by safety guideline for measurement of fire and evacuation risk.

The purpose of this study is to make a functional Hanji treated with an oriental lacquer which has various functionalities. The raw oriental lacquer produced in China was used in this study This lacquer was diluted with ethanol and terpene in different solvent ratios. The diluted lacquer in the solvents had two layers. The upper layer was solvent soluble and the lower contained precipitates. Hanji was treated with the solvent solubles and the mixture containing precipitates, and then properties of the Hanji were evaluated. The oriental lacquer consisted of 25.04% of water, 60% of urushiol, 3.13% of nitrogen-containing compounds, and 5.66% of gum. The pH of oriental lacquer was 5.3 and the viscosity was 1680 cP. The average weight, thickness, and density of Hanji treated with oriental lacquer tended to gradually decreased as the lower concentration of lacquer was used and as the solvent soluble was treated. Tensile strength of the treated Hanji decreased when the diluted lacquer was used and Hanji treated with terpene dilutes at the ratio of lacquer to solvent of 1:5 (v/v) showed higher tensile strength than ones treated with ethanol dilutes. The folding endurance decreased as the less concentrated lacquer was used and the highest value was obtained when 1:40 (v/v) of lacquer to solvent ratio in both ethanol and terpene mixture. Absorption ratio was higher in the Hanji treated with ethanol mixture, treated with the lacquer in higher concentration, and treated with ethanol mixture. Hanji treated with ethanol dilutes at 1:20 (v/v) and the lower ratio of lacquer to solvent showed a hydrophobic property. Amount of the bound dye materials tended to be decreasing as the concentration of lacquer becomes lower and it was higher in Hanji treated with ethanol mixture than with terpene mixture. Color of Hanji treated with the solvent diluted mixture was Y to YR-type, whereas that of Hanji treated with raw oriental lacquer was Y-type, terpene
