  • The purpose of this paper is to present the complex antenna factor of an EMI dipole antenna with a balun consisting of two coaxial feeders(coaxial cable balun) for measuring electromagnetic fields. A new formula of complex antenna factors for an EMI antenna with coaxial cable balun is derived using by power loss concepts. The complex antenna factor shows that the present result in this study was identical with that of the result from S-parameters. The theoretical complex antenna factors derived by power loss concepts are in good agreement with the experiments.

  • In this paper, gain loss of KVN (Korean VLBI Network) 21-m shaped Cassegrain antenna due to misalignment of antenna optics is calculated using ray-tracing method. It enables us to estimate alignment tolerances of feed and sub-reflector positioning. According to numerical results, KVN 21-m shaped Cassegrain antenna's gain loss is more sensitive to positions of feed and sub-reflector than in case of the equivalent classical Cassegrain antenna. The result of calculation is believed to be utilized as a possible guideline when checking the performance of the antenna system.

  • This paper presents a novel design for a simple rectangular ring with an open-ended monopole antenna that is well suited to DCS/PCS/UMTS/WLAN applications for dual-band operations. A microstrip-fed rectangular monopole antenna is first designed and then modified to introduce the rectangular ring with an open-ended antenna and a rectangular slit in the ground plane. Prototypes of the proposed antenna were fabricated and tested. The antenna, resonating at 1,405 MHz and 4,840 MHz, has a -10 dB impedance bandwidth of about 1,695 and 1,530 MHz (1,220~2,815 and 4,495~6,025 MHz), or about 79.06 % and 29.09 %. The observed 2D radiation patterns and 3D gain performance of the antenna in the operation bands are discussed.

  • Wireless power transmission system is one of the very interesting field not only in a technical and economical point of view but also that people are still trying to realize lossless power transmission. This paper has a purpose on the efficient power transmission at the passive type ICcard by using wireless power transmission system. The most difficult but important part of the passive type RF-ID system is building the system that supplies power from Reader-antenna to IDcard-antenna. To check what is the most efficient way to deliver power depending on what kind of specifications of the power-amp in reader, antenna and antenna in IDcard is for operating IDcard circuit efficiently receiving the power from reader-antenna. For this, we used 125kHz sinewave for RF signal as a basic specification, power-amp : OP-Amp for amplifying signal and AB Class push-pull power-amp for amplifying power, loop type antenna.

  • In this paper, a step type driver dipole antenna with a tapered balance and unbalance (balun) by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) to coplanar strip (CPS) transition is proposed. The proposed antenna consisted of step type driver, a CPW to CPS transition and tapered balun. The proposed antenna is realized the multi and wide resonate frequency band to introduce the step type driver and tapered balun. The step type driver is acted as a director too. This antenna could be more easily designed than the conventional printed quasi-Yagi dipole antenna. The operating frequency bandwidth was 650 [MHz] (2.65~3.3 GHz), 900 [MHz] (4.7~5.6 GHz) under a return-loss criterion of less than 10 dB. The measurements of the proposed antenna exhibited good results in the wideband operating frequency and radiation pattern. The proposed antenna can support wireless communications applications.

  • In this paper, a printed small Ultra-Wideband (UWB) antenna with directive radiation characteristics based on combination of electric-magnetic radiators is presented. The combinations of the electric and magnetic type antennas result in the directive radiation patterns for all observed UWB frequency band. Simple combination of dipole antenna and loop antenna is also presented to show that proper configuration of electric radiator and magnetic radiator can produces directive radiation characteristics. The target frequency is from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz with size of $15\;mm{\times}31\;mm$. A proto-type of the combined antenna is simulated, fabricated and measured. Simulation and experimental results of input impedance and gain characteristics of the proposed antenna are presented. There are good agreements between the simulated and measured VSWR curves. Also, the results show the directive radiation characteristics with small antenna form factor over the target frequency range.

  • In this paper, a high gain waveguide array antenna combining horn antenna on slot radiator was designed. And the fabricated antenna showed enough gain, improved efficiency and broadband characteristics for receiving satellite signals, compare to conventional microstrip antenna which has dielectric loss and radiation loss on transmission line. For easy fabrication, the waveguide structure was composed by 3-stages of radiator, signal coupler and transmission line. By experiment, the array waveguide antenna of 4 by 16 showed 28.3[dBi] gain and 2:1 of VSWR. And by combining horn antenna structure, the gain was increased 1[dB]. The received signal from Koreasat 6 by measurement showed 16[dBc] of C/N on BS(Broadcasting Satellite)-band and 14[dBc] of C/N on CS(Communication Satellite)-band.

  • This paper demonstrates a scalp-implantable miniaturized antenna at the medical implant communication service (MICS) (402-405MHz) band. The antenna size is only $27.63mm^3$($8.5mm{\times}6.5mm{\times}0.5mm$), which is the smallest antenna for the MICS band. Miniaturization is achieved by using a symmetrical serpentine shaped radiating patch and placing open-end slots in the ground plane. In addition, co-axial feeding is used for excitation with a shorting pin connected between the radiator and ground. The antenna was simulated in a homogeneous skin model and in the human scalp. An experimental prototype of the proposed antenna was fabricated and measured in a skin-mimicking gel. Good agreement was obtained between the measurement and simulation results, showing a broad bandwidth of 49 MHz (from 395 to 444 MHz) for |S11| less than -10 dB and a maximum gain of -42.87 dBi. This gain is higher than the previous MICS antenna with respect to antenna size.

  • In this paper, a high gain patch antenna using a single layer metamaterial superstrate with a near-to-zero refractive index (n) is proposed. Simulations for an ordinary patch antenna and our proposed metamaterial patch antenna were conducted. Our proposed metamaterial patch antenna was implemented and measured. The gain of our proposed metamaterial patch antenna is 6.77dB higher than that of an ordinary patch antenna.
