  • There is a chilled ceiling panel which carries out the air conditioning by radiation and convection between the room and cold ceiling panel surface. In order to verify heat transfer characteristics between them in cooling system with radiant chilled ceiling panel, analytical and experimental studies were performed for various design and operating parameters such as tube space and diameter, inlet water temperature, mass flow rate, cooling load, and so on. In this study, we found that the tube space and inlet water temperature were more important elements than the tube diameter and water flow rate for the performance of radiant chilled ceiling panel. The cooling capacity of the radiant chilled ceiling panel had the maximum value of $65W/m^{2}$ because the highest cooling capacity was limited by the condensation on the panel surface. The results of comparison between numerical analysis and experiment showed a resonable agreement qualitatively, especially for low cooling capacity.

  • In order to improve automotive fuel economy, vehicle weight should be reduced. Achieving significant weight reductions will normally require reducing the panel thickness or using alternative materials such as aluminum alloy sheet. These changes will affect the dent resistance of the panel. In this study, the correlation between panel size, curvature, thickness, material properties and dent resistance is investigated. A parametric approach is adopted, utilizing a "design software" tool incorporating empirical equations to predict denting and panel stiffness for simplified panels. The most effective period to optimize an automotive body panel is early in its development. The developed design program can be used to minimize panel thickness or compare different materials, while maintaining adequate panel performance.

  • A smart panel with structural sensors and actuators for minimizing noise radiation or transmission is described in the paper with the concept of active structural acoustical control. The sensors and actuators are both quadratically shaped piezoelectric polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) Polymer films to implement a volume velocity sensor and uniform force actuator respectively. They are collocated on either side of the panel to take advantage of direct velocity feedback(DVFB) strategy, which can guarantee a robust stability and high performance as long as the sensor-actuator response is strictly positive real(SPR). However, the measured sensor-actuator response of the panel showed unexpected result with non-SPR property. In the paper, the reason of the non-SPR property is investigated by theoretical analysis, computer simulation and experimental verification. The investigation reveals that the arrangement of collocated piezoelectric PVDF sensor and actuator pair on a panel is not relevant to get a high feedback gain and good performance with DVFB strategy.

  • Hybrid precast concrete panel is a wall element that is able to quickly construct the core wall structure for moderate-rise modular buildings. Hybrid precast concrete panel has unique characteristics which is a pair of C-shaped steel beams combined at the top and bottom of a concrete wall, In this study, an improved anchorage detail for vertical rebar is proposed to ensure the lateral force resistance performance of hybrid precast concrete panel emulating monolithic concrete wall. Also, the structural performance of horizontal connection is investigated experimentally with the bolt spacing parameter. And the behavior of hybrid precast concrete panel with the improved detail is compared with the monolithic concrete wall tested in a previous study. Finally, the required thickness of C-shaped steel beam to eliminate or minimize the deformation in horizontal connection is calculated by prying action equation.

  • PURPOSES : This study is to compare sound transmission loss(STL) value depending on the four kinds of materials, PC(Polycarbonate), PMMA(Polymethyl mathacrylate), PE(Polyethlyene), PP(Polypropylene), and two types of structure, single layer and double with vacuum layer, of soundproof panel. METHODS : With four sorts of polymer material, the specimens were made as various structures, 4 mm and 8 mm of single soundpoof panel and vacuum layered 4 mm of one. The experimental condition and procedures were complied with authorized process test, KS F 2808. RESULTS : STL of single panel made of PC were the greatest followed by PMMA, PE, PP regardless of the thickness of panel, However, STL of PMMA panel began to decrease around 2500 Hz and reached the lowest value among others in 5000 Hz. Vacuum layer soundproof panel showed good performance in more than 2000 Hz. Only vacuum layer panel made of PC presented resonance frequency at 800 Hz while that of other vacuum ones at 1000 Hz. CONCLUSIONS : According to results of single layer, it was found that single panel functioned as the theorical way we expected in terms of surface density. That trends were blurred as the panel got thicker. And it was suggested also that vacuum layer panel performed well at high frequency, more than 2000 Hz.

  • The study aims to examine the role of financial risk management in predicting the financial performance of commercial banks in Pakistan over the period of 2006-2017. For this purpose, risk management is measured through credit risk, interest rate risk, and liquidity risk, while financial performance is measured through ROA, ROE, and ROI. For this purpose, the dynamic panel model and two step GMM panel estimators are used to test the hypothesis empirically. The annual secondary data has been taken from the published financial reports of commercial banks of Pakistan. The results show that financial risk management significantly decreases the financial performance of commercial banks in Pakistan. Overall, the results are conclusive across the alternative measures of financial risk management in predicting the financial performance of the banking sector in Pakistan. The study suggested that managers should adopt risk management and risk hedging strategies to manage commercial banks' financial risks in Pakistan. They should hold extra cash while using the trade credit facilities. Previous studies mostly used a static model, but this study used a dynamic panel model. This study is among the first that focused on the various factors affecting the banks' performance in Pakistan.

  • We have obtained high performance and low voltage driving OCB panel by reducing the critical voltage and retardation matching between liquid crystal layer and compensation films. The critical voltage in the panel has been minimized by flattening color filter layer and optimizing a rubbing process. In addition, an appropriate retardation of the film and LC layer has scanned to achieve low driving voltage and high transmission. The proto-type 17" WXGA OCB panel has demonstrated with less than 5V drive and over 80 degree for all viewing direction except for rubbing direction with over 90% of TN light efficiency.

  • Structural safety has always been a key preoccupation for engineers responsible for the design of civil engineering projects. One of the mechanisms of structural failure, which has gathered increasing attention over the past few decades, is referred to as 'progressive collapse' which happens when one or several structural members suddenly fail, whatever the cause (accident, attack, seismic loading(.Any weakness in design or construction of structural elements can induce the progressive collapse in structures, during seismic loading. Masonry infill panels have significant influence on structure response against the lateral load. Therefore in this paper, seismic performance and shear strength of R.C frames with brick infill panel under various lateral loading patterns are investigated. This evaluation is performed by nonlinear static analysis. The results provided important information for additional design guidance on seismic safety of RC frames with brick infill panel under progressive collapse.

  • This paper discusses an experimental method for measuring the insertion loss (IL) performance of a double panel that are used in vehicles. Instead of two adjacent reverberation chambers which are generally used to measure the transmission loss (TL) of the large sound isolation materials, air-borne sound insulation tester was utilized to determine the IL and articulation index (AI) of standardized deadening materials. In comparison to reverberation chamber method, air-borne sound insulation tester method is more space-saving, more time-saving and more simple to the automotive acoustics. From the empirical results, it is verified that the performance of deadening materials is closely connected with thickness of panels, type of filling material that is filled into a double panel, and area ratio of double panel.
