Development of a wall climbing robot with vacuum caterpillar wheel system (흡착 캐터필러 시스템을 이용한 수직평면 등반로봇 기구부의 개발)

  • This paper describes a new concept of the robot that can climb on the vertical plane. The engineering design problem of the main structure is presented and the experimental results regarding a new mechanism of climbing on the vertical wall are discussed. The locomotive motion of the robot is realized by using a series chain of two caterpillar wheels on which 24-suction pads are installed. White each caterpillar wheel rotates on the vertical plane surface, the vacuum pads are activated in sequence based on the sequential opening by specially designed mechanical valves. The detail design feature of the valve is also described in this paper. The overall size of the robot is around 460 mm in width and length, respectively, and 200 mm in height. Its mass is slightly over 14 kg. The main mechanical structure of the robot consists of driving motors, vacuum caterpillar system, steering part, vacuum pump and battery. The performance of the robot is verified on the vertical wall.

Effect of Pretreatment on Dyeability and Functionalities of Summer Rayon fabrics Finished by Gallnut Extract (전처리가 오배자 추출물에 의한 여름용 인견직물의 염색 및 기능성 향상에 미치는 영향)

  • Viscose rayon filament fabrics have been called 'artificial silk' and beloved as summer clothing materials for a long time in Korea. This is because the viscose rayon filament fabrics reveals glossy surface and cool touch feeling compared to other conventional fabrics composed of staple fibers. Therefore, we tried to prepare the higher value added viscose rayon filament fabrics for summer textile products. In this study, we applied gallnut extract to the viscose rayon filament fabric to develop summer fabrics with natural color and multi-functions such as antibacterial and antioxidant properties. This process also pursue eco-friendly and multi-functional fabric finishing from the natural material "gallnut". In addition, various pre-treatment with cationizer, chitosan, or chito-oligomer was applied to the finishing process to improve the finishing efficacy and durability. Consequently, it was found that the active component of gallnut extract was successfully incorporated to the viscose rayon filament fabric through a pad-dry-cure process. And, the treated viscose rayon filament fabrics showed excellent antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Therefore, it was expected that the rayon filament fabrics treated by gallnut extract could be used as effective summer fabrics preventing the growth of bacteria and skin ageing as well as providing cool touch feeling. However, the pre-treatments were not that meaningful on the functionalities but effective on coloring.

Field Test on the Rigidities of Substructures of High Speed Railway Bridges (고속철도교량 하부구조 강성도에 관한 현장실험)

  • SThe rigidities of bridge substructures are the important data in the rail-bridge interaction analysis in Korean High -Speed Railway. This experimental study is being performed because of followings. 1) More correct longitudinal stiffness of the structure including substructure should be considered in the calculation of stresses in rails. 2) There are many uncertainties in the design and construction of the piers and foundations. 3) Actual guideline for the rigidities of piers and foundations in the design is necessary. 4) Measurement on the rigidity of pier according to the types of piers, foundations and soil-conditions is needed. Curve for estimating the total rigidity of substructure will be obtained through this and further experimental studies. It may be used in the analysis of Korean High-Speed Railway bridge and then, longitudinal stresses in the rails can be estimated more accurately. One pair of piers, which consist of pot-bearing for fixed support and pad-bearing for movable support, are loaded by steel frame devices with steel wire ropes and hydraulic jack. The responses which are measured at each loading stages in those field tests are displacements and tilted angles on the top and bottom of piers. This study is being performed testing and analysis about several piers in the construction field.

Differences between Purchase Behavior and Perception of Organic Clothing Goods on University Students (대학생의 오가닉 의류제품에 대한 구매행동과 인지도의 차이)

  • This study aims to examine and analyze consumers' perception level and purchase behavior of organic clothing goods with. According to their purchase experience of organic clothing goods, it was found that organic textile products for women like sanitary pad were most and purchase frequency of organic clothing goods was mostly once. Among reasons to purchase organic clothing goods, 'for my health' was most. Non-purchase reason was mostly 'I don't know what organic goods are'. Therefore, there were significant awareness differences of organic clothing goods in "health efficiency" between the purchasing group and the non-purchasing group. In addition, there were significant awareness differences of demographic characteristics and organic clothing goods in sex, age, and "health efficiency" of related major items and in "high quality recognition" and "health efficiency" of residential areas.

  • The function of a vehicle holding device (VHD) is to securely hold a launch vehicle on the launch pad and release the launch vehicle at maximum thrust after engine ignition to allow lift-off of the launch vehicle. During the release of the launch vehicle, to prevent the Ka doing a doing a doing mode, which is the vertical oscillation of the entire liquid propellant, the release of the launch vehicle should be gradual. In this study, for the gradual release of a launch vehicle, a hydraulic system comprising an accumulator and pyro valve to operate a hydraulic cylinder and control the speed of the cylinder with an orifice is introduced. Through a test, the influence of design variables on the cylinder speed is analyzed. Based on this, the design values of the hydraulic cylinder are determined. Through this study, the engineering basis for developing a VHD releasing a launch vehicle at maximum thrust is provided.

Heat Transfer Depending on 3D Printing Material and Shape for Protector Development (3D 프린팅 보호대 개발을 위한 재료와 구조에 따른 열전달 평가)

  • This study measured the effect 3D printing products comprised of different materials and shapes on heat transfer in clothing to derive fundamental data on thermal comfort among clothing comfort. The variables were three types of material (EVA foam, TPU-10%, TPU-10%+EVA), two types of shape (without holes, with holes), and two types of covers(without cover, with cover). All samples (12 types) prepared by combining these variables were placed on the hot plate set at 36℃, and the surface temperature was measured at three points for 10 minutes. The surface temperature change was dependent on the material, shape, and cover of the sample. The sample printed with TPU exhibited higher temperature transfer compared to the EVA foam sample after 10 mins. In addition, the temperature transfer was better when there were holes, and rate decreased when the sample was covered with fabric. We confirmed that material selection of the pad and thermal conductivity of the cover are extremely important in solving thermal stress to the human body caused by functional clothing with protectors. Additionally, as the protector, it is recommended to design the outer shell with a passage, such as a hole, to allow the rapid transfer of heat to the external environment.

Structural Evaluation Method to Determination Safe Working Load of Block Handling Lugs (블록 이동용 러그의 안전사용하중 결정에 관한 구조 평가법)

  • To construct a ship, blocks of various sizes must be moved and erected . In this process, lugs are used such that they match the block fastening method and various functions suitable for the characteristics of each shipyard facility. The sizes and shapes of the lugs vary depending on the weight and shape of the block structures. The structure is reinforced by welding the doubling pads to compensate for insufficient rigidity around the holes where the shackle is fastened. As for the method of designing lugs according to lifting loading conditions, a simple calculation based on the beam theory and structural analysis using numerical modeling are performed. In the case of the analytical method, a standardized evaluation method must be established because results may differ depending on the type of element and modeling method. The application of this ambiguous methodology may cause serious safety problems during the process of moving and turning-over blocks. In this study , the effects of various parameters are compared and analyzed through numerical structural analysis to determine the modeling conditions and evaluation method that can evaluate the actual structural response of the lug. The modeling technique that represents the plate part and weld bead around the lug hole provides the most realistic behavior results. The modeling results with the same conditions as those of the actual lug where only the weld bead is connected to the main body of the lug, showed a lower ulimated strength compared with the results obtained by applying the MPC load. The two-dimensional shell element is applied to reduce the modeling and analysis time, and a safety working load was verified to be predicted by reducing the thickness of the doubling pad by 85%. The results of the effects of various parameters reviewed in the study are expected to be used as good reference data for the lug design and safe working load prediction.

A 16 bit FPGA Microprocessor for Embedded Applications (실장제어 16 비트 FPGA 마이크로프로세서)

  • SoC(System on Chip) technology is widely used in the field of embedded systems by providing high flexibility for a specific application domain. An important aspect of development any new embedded system is verification which usually requires lengthy software and hardware co-design. To reduce development cost of design effort, the instruction set of microprocessor must be suitable for a high level language compiler. And FPGA prototype system could be derived and tested for design verification. In this paper, we propose a 16 bit FPGA microprocessor, which is tentatively-named EISC16, based on an EISC(Extendable Instruction Set Computer) architecture for embedded applications. The proposed EISC16 has a 16 bit fixed length instruction set which has the short length offset and small immediate operand. A 16 bit offset and immediate operand could be extended using by an extension register and an extension flag. We developed a cross C/C++ compiler and development software of the EISC16 by porting GNU on an IBM-PC and SUN workstation and compared the object code size created after compiling a C/C. standard library, concluding that EISC16 exhibits a higher code density than existing 16 microprocessors. The proposed EISC16 requires approximately 6,000 gates when designed and synthesized with RTL level VHDL at Xilinix's Virtex XCV300 FPGA. And we design a test board which consists of EISC16 ROM, RAM, LED/LCD panel, periodic timer, input key pad and RS-232C controller. 11 works normally at 7MHz Clock.

Shape Design of Bends in District Heating Pipe System by Taguchi Method (다구찌 방법을 이용한 지역난방시스템의 벤드형상 설계)

  • In this study, alternative designs for the bends used in district heating pipes are investigated. The district heating pipes, which are subjected to temperatures of 10 to $120^{\circ}C$ and a water pressure of $16\;kgf/cm^2$, have to withstand thermomechanical cyclic loads when in use. These pipes comprise three concentric tubes: a steel pipe (internal), polyurethane (PUR) insulator (middle), and a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) case (external). In addition, the bends in the district heating pipe system are covered with foam pads that cause aging. In this study, an alternative bend design that does not involve the use of a foam pad is proposed to overcome the aging problem in the bends. In the proposed design, "shear rings" are added to the surface of a bend, and its dimensions are determined by a combination of the statistical (Taguchi) method and FEM. The geometrical parameters such as thickness, height, and number of the rings significantly affect the design optimization, and hence, they affect the results of the FEM.

Study on Design of ZnO-Based Thin-Film Transistors With Optimal Mechanical Stability (ZnO 기반 박막트랜지스터의 기계적 안정성 확보에 관한 연구)

  • ZnO-based thin-film transistors (TFTs) have been fabricated and the mechanical characteristics of electric circuits, such as stress, strain, and deformation are analyzed by the finite element method (FEM). In this study, a mechanical-stability design guide for such systems is proposed; this design takes into account the stress and deformation of the bridge to estimate the stress distribution in an $SiO_2$ film with 0 to 5% stretched on 0.5-${\mu}m$-thick. The predicted buckle amplitude of $SiO_2$ bridges agrees well with experimental results within 0.5% error. The stress and strain at the contact point between bridges and a pad were measured in a previous structural analysis. These structural analysis suggest that the numerical measurement of deformation, SU-8 coating thickness for Neutral Mechanical Plane (NMP) and ITO electrode size on a dielectric layer was useful in enhancing the structural and electrical stabilities.
